Eve, Walt Kelly and Perry Como never sang on stage together, at least not that either would admit to. Churchy LaFemme, Albert and Grundoon occasionally broke into a chorus - like disagreement.

Ian, That was a little more cynical than Eve had in mind but straight to the point with nary a deflected sentiment.

I finally put on a new Utube.
Dr Hook. Mum and dad says they were awsome on stage in the 70's., I wish I was old enough to have gone with them.
I was born too late for all my favourites

Sharlene: They must have been in Australia - I don't remember them over here. However, in the '70's the music changed a lot and after '74, it was hard to find music I like on the radio. At least now there are some oldies stations.

What I don't like about Christmas - is shopping and trying to get the perfect gift for everyone in crowded insane people. Over the years it has become harder, because most of them already have everything they want or need. I prefer to do my Christmas shopping when traveling to some exotic place and seeing something that reminds me of someone and buying it for them on the spur of the moment. Didn't go anyplace this year. Some of the family has agreed to give donations to chosen charities in their name. Saves a lot on postage.

What I love about Christmas - my favorite Holiday: the songs, the decorations, the lights, the smells, the cooking, baking, the friendliness of people (other than those in stores shopping) the Children's Christmas Pagent and Candlelite service. The feeling of love and if lucky a White Christmas (but not too White). I've got the decorations up (except for the tree) and will be helping out at Church decorating on the 1st for the first Sunday in Advent. I've got my Christmas music out & start (as I did on my page) with Mannheim Steamroller. Check it out - Deck the Halls & Joy to the World. May you also get the Spirit of Christmas and have Peace in your Heart and the Love of your friends and family.

Unlike most here I LOVE mince pies. The bought ones are OK, but there is so much scope from making your own (fruity) mince-meat. Just bung in raisins, currants, sultanas, crystallised cherries (yum), reconstituted citrus peel, damsons soaked in spirit, rum or brandy or rum and brandy; a little particulate suet etc +++++++ what you will. Let this mixture rot for a couple of months and - Bob's your uncle. The pie cases are just sweetened shortcrust pastry with ground almond

Yum! I put egg yolk in the pastry and a few craisins in with the fruit. I soak different batches, rum, brandy, cointreau and drambuie. I am just about to make the marzipan for the cake.

Mince pies go well with mulled wine, I remember it being very cold at Chrismas in East Anglia and coming in to mulled wine and hot mince pies. They were put by the fire to keep warm. Now in Oz it is an cold ice beer with the air-con at full blast so that we can have a hot meal!

For Xmas we dont cook at all. It is a smorgasbord of cold cuts, ham, prawns, lobster, antipasto, breads, bickies and dips. Not to forget the desserts. Lots of cold drinks then the taxi.

We had our xmas in november this year as everyone is O/S at that time. It was wonderful and we had so many compliments and our friends who are new aussies thought it was wonderful that we relaxed and joined our friends in celebrating instead of stressing out in the kitchen. 3 kids of mine and 6 altogether plus adults and no stress at all.
Loved it.

Another tip... We use xmas gift bags and recycle them each year. This way our garbage bin is not full of wrapping paper and also it is good for the environment. I firstly did it to save money and time doing the wrapping. Never go back to paper wrap again.... Much quicker.

Leave the tops loose when you make mince pies then just before you serve them slip a small piece of brandy(or rum) butter inside and warm through in the oven.
We always put up our decorations on Christmas Eve and took them down on Twelfth Night. Don't do any now - not unless family were to be here, but they will be in Japan. Not really worth it for just we 2. Might put a sprig of holly on each computer though!

Trouble with that kind of annual recycle is that I can never find. It's bad enough with the decorations.

How about bomb-alaskas at Oz Christmas?
Now there's a challenge.
