Nuytsia floribunda, commonly known as Western Australian Christmas tree, is a parasitic tree found in Western Australia. It is known for its bright yellow flowers around Christmas time (summer). It can grow to 10m tall. It is a member of the Loranthaceae or mistletoe family.

Despite our good wishes I think Val may be having a terrible holiday. If the weather in Bolton is anything like here she is busy holding onto her roof.

RayRay and others, it seems this is the second time I have mistaken Australian wattle for our goldenrod. Here is a link with a ophoto of our goldenrod and short article from the state agricultural colege.

http://www.auburn.edu/~deancar/wfnotes/gldrd.htm

Interesting tidbit, bright colored flowers usually do not make small light weight pollen that is dispersed by wind, thereby causing allergies. It could be that both Goldenros and wattle get a bad wrap, both are bright colored flowers. Huumm, maybe I should do a look up and see if australian wattle has light weight or heavy weight pollen.

BTW, there are many varieties of "goldenrod" in the USA, England and Europe, all closely kin to each other but with different flowers.

Earlier in the year, Linda from MN had a little church mouse problem and we had a lot of fun with it. Linda worked in a church office and left to work somewhere and we have not heard from her. Anyone have an update???

Dave: based upon the performance of my Bruins lately. I have to agree with my Cal alumni cousin - we don't have a very good chance (maybe 20-1). But, we won last year - SO, anything can happen. USC (University of Spoiled Children). GO BRUINS!

This weekend is the begining of Advent. Today (OZ time & now at GMT) Dec 1st, it is time to start the Christmas Holiday Season - with songs - greetings - so lets "DECK THE HALLS WITH BOUGHS OF HOLLY" - enjoy the Christmas lights that are now all up - sit back and enjoy MANNHEIM STEAMROLLER.

Come on over and with me through out the Holiday Season.

Will be changing videos daily througout the Christmas Holiday - searched U-tube for some of the best to entertain you. They will be changed around midnight GMT (8 PM EST). Kind'a midway point of the day between OZ time.

Florida Kathy:
I thought Jane's words were marvellous, but I feel a little burned out and jaded right now and can't keep up.
Also the weather here is most unsettling - 70mph gales. I couldn't sleep because of gable-howls - very spooky.
By the way I always thought that, stricly, a 'neologism' was an entirely invented word rather than a new meaning for an existing word - which is a pun. Am I right or being pedantic?

Nola: Happy your tests went well.
Rayray: Thanks for the lowdown on the real Miss Muffet story.
Gail & Lynda (Perth): I suspect the allergies this time of year may be caused by jacarandas. My high school used to have lots of them and every November - exam time - I'd have to suffer through Hayfever. In the 60's there was no over the counter antihistimines so I just sniffled and snuffled through interminable exams.

you're right, rayray. (and it is possible to be both right and pedantic, too... or is it pedantic to point that out?)

How about a neologistic game, though... make up a new word for a phenomenon, quality, etc., to be named...

Here is the first one, to get things going.

The act of typing with one's fingers on the wrong keys.

To continue Eve's Fa La La's a little further into the season, an offering from the late great Walt Kelly as reportedly sung by Churchy.

Merry Crispness!

Lyrics by Walt Kelly, Music by Traditional (whoever he is)

Deck us all with Boston Charlie,
Walla walla, Wash., an' Kalamazoo!
Nora's freezin' on the trolley,
Swaller dollar cauliflower alley'garoo!

Don't we know archaic barrel,
Lullaby lilla boy, Louisville Lou?
Trolley Molly don't love Harold,
Boola boola Pensacoola hullabaloo!

Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Polly welly cracker n' too-da-loo!
Donkey Bonny brays a carol,
Antelope Cantaloup, 'lope with you!

Hunky Dory's pop is lolly gaggin' on the wagon,
Willy, folly go through!
Chollie's collie barks at Barrow,
Harum scarum five alarm bung-a-loo!

Duck us all in bowls of barley,
Ninky dinky dink an' polly voo!
Chilly Filly's name is Chollie,
Chollie Filly's jolly chilly view halloo!

Bark us all bow-wows of folly,
Double-bubble, toyland trouble! Woof, Woof, Woof!
Tizzy seas on melon collie!
Dibble-dabble, scribble-scrabble! Goof, Goof, Goof!

went to the gelato shop this morning - had 6 tastes/tspoons and went for 1kg of mango and raspberry, went to the healthfood shop, ate a mince pie straight from the display stand, went to the fishmongers and tasted their pepper squid, went to the supemarket and ate my way around all the food tasting stands - I'm quite full now, although I could go a choccie....

er, billy, did the proprietors mind you eating right from the display stand? Did you at least use a fork? And was it one of those glass cases so that all the other customers could watch you feasting away?
