NURSERY-RHYME FORENSICS
The unfortunate Miss Moffet was born under the Sign of the Spider, which has now been horoscopically banned as being too scary. The stars of the constellation were all packed in boxes and sold as ornaments; called Christmas lights; for Christmas trees, and the other constellations had more room to spread out. Miss Moffet, rather than being a mere cursory nursery figure, has been the subject of great poetic; sometimes bawdy; attention; even from academics at the ‘varsity. This is because of her epic life-event when a spider shared her tuffet and scared her living Christmas daylights into her knickers. A tuffet is a makeshift seat; perhaps a stool (chair) or mound (of ass-grass); being ‘makeshift’ simply because it can be shifted about. From her case, her psychiatrist invented a whole new condition called arachnophobia, about which films have since been made. Some sceptical (=skeptical;alt.) historians have recently re-opened the Miss Moffet saga by suggesting that the whey she was then consuming contained way too much psychogenic contaminant such as would induce a panic attack; even hallucinations. However one eminent zoologist considers that a venomous spider spat a poison akin to ergot-extract into the whey, in which model the spider is regarded as real and as remaining ultimately responsible for Miss Moffet objections, her need to run off to wash her underwear, and her abandoning of her tuffet as a mysterious Marie Celestey object. That tuffet, although badly stained from her induced accident, can be visited at the National Spider Museum. Thus the life of the spider; although it is now long dead after being swallowed by a bird; still hangs by its thread as academics struggle to resolve this intriguing debate, by trying to unravel a legendary web of truth, untruth, and morning dewdrops. Dewdrops themselves are also subject to scrutiny as potential carriers of toxin. That is because this horrific incident occurred close to the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, at which time people had not yet developed any immune tolerance at all to the various chemical effluents to which they were newly ex(ggs)posed. One of the eggs, named Humpty-Dumpty posed on a wall and fell off, but I am of the firm belief that Humpty Dumpty was pushed.

Rayray - I don't know if its the scent or not. My husband was affected by the the scyamore tree in the front yard, but that doesn't bother me. (darn spell check. Where is it?)

Dorthea: From what I recall, sycamores, like their close relative the maple, exude sugary nectar when they flower suggesting insect pollination; in which case the pollen might be heavy and not wind-carried to cause allergies. Is your husband's allergy all the year round or linked to the flowering period?

2:16. It certainly looks like a wattle to me.

We went to see Elton John last night - an outdoor concert and unfortunately it rained the entire time with a couple of electrical storms thrown in! An enjoyable night that would have been so much better without the rain.

3.05 It certainly looks like a wattle but the leaves are unfamiliar.
You are right MizT, wattle does get a bad rap! Hubby and son are suffering at the moment but the wattle finished flowering over a month ago. I was always told it's not the wattle people are allergic too, it's the eucalypts. Whatever is affecting my son is doing a good job. He has ended up with allergic conjunctivitis. Gosh I'm glad he doesn't live at home anymore! One suffering male in the house is enough!
