Good Evening, Everyone! This is another quick pop in to glance at posts & say good night. It may be after Thanksgiving before I really find time to read and respond.

Heidi, I hope Maxine can hang in on her own until you're back after Thanksgiving and can give her a hand (or two or three)! Sending positive thoughts her way!

{{{{{{{ H U G S }}}}}}}, healing vibes, prayers and positive thoughts for all! Feel free to share!!

Good Night! All the best to everyone!

Of course, I forgot to count. Here are two quotations from Albert Einstein:

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.”

“Do not grow old, no matter how long you live . . . stand like curious children before the Great Mystery into which we were born.“

I heard from Maxine this morning. She's not as scared. Her boyfriend was released from jail this morning (I believe his grandfather paid his bail) so she's not alone. Being alone scares her more than her boyfriend's abuse. She's VERY insecure and unsure of herself. He still has to appear in court, and may get a sentence, so I will be prepared to pick her and Holly up when it's time. At least I don't have to freak out about her while I'm in Florida.

Since I'm gonna be in Florida over Thanksgiving, I'm making Thanksgiving dinner here tomorrow. Just the standard stuff: turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans (IH's favorite food), cranberry relish and pumpkin pie. IH will have plenty of leftovers to eat while I'm gone.

Morning all. Coffee is ready, help yourself.

Heidi, you have a heart the size of the universe. Maxine is lucky to have you in her life. I am glad she is ok and I think you bringing her to Kentucky will be good for her. I just hope that the 'boyfriend' has no idea where you live so that he can't come to get her.

Thank you everyone for the prayers for Marlane. I know a lot of us are dealing with the big C in various ways. This is the first relative on my generation level to deal with something like this. Even though she is 20+ years older than me, it hits home. Another cousin called me from Texas the other day feeling the same way. Marlane is meeting with an oncologist and 2 surgeons in the next week or two to plan a course of action. She is a strong person and I know she will put up the best fight she has. Her sister, cousins and friends are all she has. She, nor her sister, ever married so we are her family.

Speaking of cancer, my FIL has just been diagnosed with melanoma. It showed up in his middle finger last week, and they amputated that finger yesterday before they even got the CT scan results back. For some bizarre reason best known to him, IH isn't as worried as I am.

Tami.... he knows that I live in Magnolia, KY, but I don't think he has my actual address. To me, that's irrelevant. I have enough friends in law enforcement, from the local constable to the judge, that I can protect her effectively if necessary. But it looks like she won't be ready to go until he has to spend prison time, so he won't be able to come after her. Once she starts getting a stable life without abuse, which is all she's known, she'll realize that she doesn't want to go back to that. But she's gonna have to experience a happy life for a while first.

He finally returned an hour ago, and immediately took off for his cousin Don's place. There is no way that I'm gonna be able to sort out calves tomorrow and take them to the stockyard the same day, so the most I can hope for is to sort them out tomorrow, then take them next Sunday once I've returned to Kentucky.

Heidi, I'm glad he is safe, even if it is Gil... Annoying behaviour though. One day you'll be questioned as to why you didn't report him missing and we'll have to testify that not showing up was the norm for him! I think it was a good call leaving immediately - he knew what he deserved and was going to get!

Bummer about the calves.

I hope Maxine does move over with you and doesn't feel the need to stay close to visit him in jail!

My Grandfather had a whole bunch of melanoma (moles that became cancerous, I think there were 8 of them) removed from his back. Several years later (more than 5) he was in hospital with pneumonia and couldn't work out why he had dozens of doctors in and out of his room. It was because he both wasn't dead and didn't have cancer. I think he was surprised to learn that he was expected to get another type and die. Many years later he got very ill and the docs were convinced he had cancer, they just couldn't find it, but he MUST have it, so that's what they said he had. They never did find where it was though.

IH ''said'' it's melanoma, but I've never heard of doctors amputating bones for melanoma. I suspect they found a different cancer.

Heidi, not trying to put a damper on Maxine, but have experience 1st hand that you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make it drink.
My cousin was in an abusive, drug related relationship and I got her away from it hoping she would learn from me but she went back a few times. New is scarier than what you are used to, but I am sure I don't have to tell you.
Good news is that she followed me to Queensland 5 years later and finally got a life. Bad news was that her daughter followed her and has been bleeding dry ever since. Could go on but then you would have to bring out the violins!
Washing machine has been shorting out the power today GRRR!
Finally cleaning out the pantry since cousin moved in, at least half the contents is way out of date, so better get back to it.
Going to see my friends where my boat was moored this arvo. That is my reward for cleaning the pantry. Hehe!

That's my concern, Suzy. She does care for him, and will go back to him if she isn't completely ready. I know I can't give her a lot of self esteem in a short time. That'll be a slow process. Right now, she believes she deserves everything bad that she gets.

Hi all,
Broni, I have been having some reservations along the same lines that you have mentioned, but have not had hands on experience..just knew others where it had been tried but didn't take. I hesitated to say any thing because from things Heidi has said, I feel they may have been considered already and at if she moves as Heidi hopes, she will at least experience something different even if it doesn't take at first. As you say, new /different can be very scary indeed. I am just thankful that she has someone like Heidi to listen and who knows when to push or hold back until later...that will make a big difference in her life. I wish all involved God-speed.
Rola...time is growing near.. hooray !
I've been cooking and getting ready for Thanksgiving...will be going to my niece's house for dinner, but am preparing dinner for here for after the holidays. Glad I started ahead to fix my dish to take (candied sweet potatoes with apples and pecans) now only need to make a pecan pie. My grand daughter is making an apple pie...so that will be fairly easy to do. The good part of having it done mostly is because we're both fighting colds and all that goes with it and as if that wasn't enough, my brother is now in the hospital and they are running all kinds of test because he's sick, but they don't as yet know what's causing him to be sick...always seems that stuff like this happens around holiday time. He sounds okay, but need to keep my sister calm...she gets so upset when we're sick...both she and my brother are in their 80's so they need to chill.I'm glad I'm only dealing with a cold...that allows me to keep her in check. Well, life is still offering us much to be thankful for and I am indeed glad to be able to enjoy this one.
Enough about things I can't control and back to doing what I can, and that's sending healing vibes and good wishes to all. Peace.

Heidi, I agree with what the others say about Maxine, but I also agree with Mamacita that giving her the opportunity to see the alternative is a wonderful thing, even if it takes her a while to see it.

Sleep well.

Broni, I've done all sorts of things around my house and yard today (not the pantry though) because I don't want to do what I really should be doing... lesson plans!

Mamacita, feel better soon! I hope Thanksgiving goes well and that your brother is able to be there!!!

All I can do is give Maxine the opportunities. I can't force her to do anything she doesn't want to do. I think the most important thing is to earn her trust. Everybody she has ever trusted has let her down. If that means taking her back to her boyfriend if she wants that, so be it. As long as she knows that she can come back here, that's the important thing.

Heidi, it sounds like you know exactly what to do to help Maxine. I hope she is willing to let you help her. She deserves to have better than she does, for herself and her child. Let me know if I can help with anything. If she ever needs to talk, I will be there for her also. I am only a phone call away.

Well, Idiot Husband screwed up the calf sorting something fierce. I was doing the actual sorting, and he was to man the gate to let cows through, but not calves. What he did was to fling open the gate and walk away, so the calves stampeded out with the cows. My throat is now sore from screaming at him.

Hi all.
Heidi..no surprise that you may have been better off doing it by yourself if possible.I hope your dinner turned out more of a success and you take something for the headache.
Hope you can help Maxine in the limited time you are with her.Just getting away would be great for a chance to recoup.
Suzy..Brisbane also had a bad storm. Yesterday we had welcome heavy rain and I didn't call in to
Judy because of the lightning. It is a bit of a walk into the hospital from the parking area so I hope she understands.
Rolanda...nearly there. Wont it be lovely to finally move in.
Mama...I suppose all in the US are getting organized for Thanksgiving. Hope everyone enjoys this special time.

MizT...loved your newsy post. Great that you will spend thanksgiving with your family and not have to cook. A fuzzy head must be better than pain.

Sonny the pup is growing fast. Still hoarding everything in his bed. I cannot sweep the floor until he is asleep as he attacks the broom or vac.
Worse than looking after a child but he makes me laugh at his antics.

Tummy is full and very happy. IH showed up on time for the meal (he was told that if he was late, the dogs would get his share) and he really enjoyed it. He will have a lot of leftovers for the next few days.

Nola.... this was a 2 -4 person job. It was only possible for 2 to do it if both were competent, or if he followed my instructions exactly. Which he didn't even pretend to do.
