Ruby, I tried blowing it back up north. You still have to be warmer than here. Tomorrow the high is supposed to be 47.

You have been having heavy frosts, haven't you? We had a light frost last week, then warming, and now a north wind/breeze for three days. If the breeze would cease, it would be fine here.

I don't envy you the cold, I am over that and looking forward to summer. Mind you we are having a cold snap here at the moment and have had a couple of really cold days. It's hard to believe it is less than a month to summer.

The only good thing about the north wind is that it blows my leaves toward the road and not the house. That makes it easier for my genuine Toro mulching mower to chew them up.

Today is Melbourne Cup Day, our big horse race day. The whole of Aust will stop at 3pm, just under half an hour away to watch the big race, and all the jockeys were just introduced (I have the TV on so that I can watch it)

We've only had one hard frost so far. Now they're talking about snow flurries by the end of the week. It was windy here today. Blew the lids off the trash cans and had to chase 1 up the street.

Jenni, did you say whether or not you are participating in the horse race madness?

I've never been to a horse race. There's a track on the south end of Columbus and have only driven past it.

Also the majority of Aussies usually have a bet today even if they have no idea about horse racing. I don't have a bet on, but I do have some horses in a sweep so I have something to cheer for to make it more exciting.

I usually don't bet but send hubby out to put a little money on the horse that I think has the best name!!!

Becky, it's an early winter, for sure. Hopefully it will be mild and short.

That's probably how I'd bet. Either that or by the jockey's colors.

It's quite a good day out too to go to the local race track on Cup Day, people get all dressed up and you take a picnic and watch a few races. Its fun, although would be a little chilly there today.

Yes I agree about the jockeys colours Becky - that's another good indication about how well the horse will do!!!!

No I didn't have a bet MizT, and if I had've I wouldn't have picked it. Neither the name or the colours grabbed at me

It's good now that its all over MizT, although I must admit I did enjoy the study, it was quite stimulating. I'm glad to have finished though and now just have to wait for my registration to come through - that won't happen till December

Jenni, How did your horse do?
Purple would be my color--if the silks were purple; and what self-respecting jockey would wear purple?; I would bet on that horse.
MizT: Is it still sorta warm over there or has it gotten cold already? We're in the 70's right now with 40's at night, but supposed to get colder during the week.

I have been to only one horse race in my life, and it was a cold windy day. Back when birmingham race course had live horse racing, which they do not now. We made a wager on each race, and actually won enough to pay for our parking, entry and our lunch. Not bad, a totally free outting hehehe

Meantime I'll be taking it easy and just do a little bit of work here and there, although I don't know what yet
