Stella, add a little burbon to the hot water, lemon and honey, a nice hot toddy, and if it does not cure the sore throat, at least you will not care about it for a bit .

Stella, sorry about your throat! And thanks for the message you left on my page. I found an Aussie site (I think it was Kate put me on to it)which is not free, but has excellent teaching methods and instant feedback and rewards. Whether GS actually does the maths or not now I am home again is a different matter. I like Mizt's medicine. Buddhists can have a little alcohol for medicinal purposes only!

Coffee is making, you can wait with me for the freshest cup in town!
Does anyone other than me have problems adjusting to the time change? It takes longer to adjust in fall, just cannot seem to sleep much past my "old" wake up time, there fore I am not getting enough sleep at night.

The next one? Does this mean I am early? But its not yer midnight here. I got diverted looking for new emoticons which can be converted to smileys. I'm not sure what has happened to the rest of today, but its getting late here. Can I have some of your coffee in the morning MizT? I need hot chocolate right now.

Gday dino, what are you still doing up??? Oh that's right, same as me!!!
How's your cold at the mo? I hope the travelling for your GS wasn't too grueling.
Do you think he benefited from the one on one? I hope so. He reminds me of my son when he was younger, seemingly full of unexplainable rage, but I think a lot of that is that boys just aren't as extended physically as much they could be. I know my son gained a lot of self-confidence from being involved in group activities, in his case it was sport, but there are many other outlets available.

Hi Gail. Cold has disappeared into the ether. I have decided to take it easy this weekend, which is why I'm mucking around on the laptop. GS does go to Venturers which he loves and that is his is main social network. I think D#2 is counting down the days to Christmas when school becomes a non-issue. Meanwhile i introduced GD#2 (who belongs to D#1) to the same maths site and she absolutely loves it. She's trying her hand at algebra for the first time. D#1 is most impressed.

Fully excellent recommendation for the site. Hannah is very able, just totally disinterested in maths. Her teacher has told me she is obviously very bright but the curriculum just does not enthrall. As I believe what she would like to do 'when she grows up' will need a math grounding, would you suggest I have a looksee?

Lovely weekend coming up, weatherwise. Perfect for strolling along the beach. How far are you getting these days?
I love the picture of Merlin in the front yard, except that it reminds me I forgot to grab a slip of the scented geranium! Must come back down and grab some.

Hi Gail and Dino.
Just had a little excitement. A Huey landed in the baseball field less than a block from our house. At first I thought it was Life Flight, but it kept circling. Ran out onto the front porch in my jammies to see what was going on. Hubby drove me past before he went to work. The whole junior high kids were out, along with half our neighborhood. Tomorrow is our Veterans Day.

Eve, I believe so. It looked like most of the students were out to watch it land (8:15 am). The pilot and other crew members got out and talked to the students. They took off around 3 pm.

In Oregon there is a young boy (believe he is 3) is in the care of DSS (Department of Social Services). DSS placed him with a family (no relationship to the child) a couple of years ago. The State now wants to deport the young boy to Mexico. The family who has been caring for the boy has asked to adopt him.
The boy is a US Citizen. His mother is a US Citizen and has had her parental rights permanently terminated. The boy's father is an illegal alien - in JAIL for RAPING a CHILD, drug dealing, etc. and will be deported after his sentence is completed.
DSS located the paternal grandmother in Mexico to see if she would take the child. She was not even aware this grandchild existed before DSS contacted her. The father says he will return to Mexico and live with his mother after he is released.
The Lars Larson (Mouth of the Columbia) OR/WA talk show host has been trying to stop the State from sending of this boy to Mexico rather than allowing the family that has cared for him for the past couple of years to adopt or continue raising him.
The "Oregonian" - major paper of the state - has sided with DSS. Tuesday - Lars will be discussing this on Lou Dobbs Show.

EVE, do keep us up to date on how this turns out. Just how can DSS deport a US CITIZEN? That sounds very strange to me!
And another thing, why is the US keeping, feeding and housing the illegal alien in jail, but will deport him after his sentence is served? Why not just deport him first and save some tax payer money?? but they did not ask me.

One reason to make him serve his term, rather than immediate deportation is that he would probably be back before the week was out. There have been illegals that have killed policemen gone back to Mexico, where Mexico has refused to extradite. Then they have come back to the US and been spoted by police, but not arrested. It is insane.

Eve and MizT, what is the right thing to do and the law are 2 different things. Child welfare is required to unite children with parents/relatives. I don't understand why the grandmother can't apply for a visa to come here and get to know him. One of 2 things would probably happen: 1 - they would bond and the grandmother could apply for a permanent visa; 2 - she would find out that she's not able to handle him, but would still be able to visit. Either way would be a win-win situation for the little boy, who is the most important player in this matter.

BECKY, you said a mouthful! What is right and what is the law is totally alien at times. I did a lot of reading about that case, and get various versions of what really happened. Who really knows.
One interesting bit I read, the child is a special needs child, and as such would come with an income from Oregan. the grandmother states a monthly income of about $600, which is high for rural Mexico, according to the article. The child would bring $375 (I think, almost $400 I remember) a month, a nice increase. I am wondering if child is a special needs child, how those needs will be met in rural Mexico??

Everyone. All is well here. I haven't spent a lot of time here lately. Life keeps getting in the way. Tomorrow I get to march in the Remembrance Day parade with my Sparks and Brownies. I hope it isn't too wet or cold. Take care everyone.
