MizT, he loves to grill. I don't argue with him as it means less cooking for me.

Yes, we use charcoal and sometimes wood chips to give the meat a different flavor.

Not here it aint! Hubby and I did a role reversal a couple of years back. I hate making the salads and he wasn't the best barbier! So now I am the barby cook and he happily does the inside stuff.

The only time I touch it is when it needs to be moved out of the way or cleaned. Since it's only the 2 of us, it doesn't get used if he's not here.

I used it on Boxing Day last year. Had the whole blooming tribe up here and the weather was cold so didn't feel like doing a barby for the masses. Did a rolled pork and a lamb plus potato bake and green salad. Very easy way to cater. I think there were about twenty of us here.

Good morning all! Brisk this morning, 31F.
MizT, nekkid or not, we still love you!
Becky, I hope your hubby gets well soon!
Hubby uses our barbeque grill year round. He brings it into the garage for the winter and then rolls it onto the driveway to cook. Our snow gets too deep to keep it out in the backyard!
Tired this morning. Stayed up to help S#2 with his project that is due today. Of course ended up doing the majority of the work since it got late and I had to print off family pictures for his family poster!
Talked to D#2 last night. She has an art project due today and she wished I could have helped. Her art teacher is really tough.
Off to do some stuff, busy, busy, busy!
Hope everyone has a great day and weekend!

I think the automatic renewal payment from Pay Pal was paid on MY date, but I was unsubscribed automatically on Australia time/date. Whatever the cause, I am glad to be back again!

Stella, I know all about the "help" needed for special projects. I went through school myslef, then with my siblings, with my daughters, then step daughter, and some of the nieces and nephews too.

Al's daughter always brought special projects to me for ideas and help. We did some creative things together. Her Mom's excuse for sending this homework to us was we had encyclopedias (before internet and goggeling, boy that was really work then), but i really enjoyed helping and teaching how to do the research and put a report together. She still remembers some of the things we did

OH, I have a few words about Barbeque that was mentioned earlier! Now, this information comes from a documentary I saw recently about the history of southern barbeque.

Actually what most of us call BBQ is actually grilling, cooking over high temps for short periods of time. Old traditional BBQ was done over a very slow fire, it was covered with something, basted often, and produced lots of smoke to flavor the meat and took HOURS or days over the pit.

The work of BBQing was usually done by African slaves in the early USA, because it was labor intensive. A pit was dug in the ground, a wood fire was built, allowed to burn to coals, and a grate of some sort was put over the fire. meat was put on, and tended by the African men. A BBQ meal was not something done for a few people, it was done for huge crowds, cause it did take so long and so much labor, it was expensive in time and manpower. once the pit was dug and the fire was down to the coals needed, it took little extra labor to put huge amounts of meat on the fire, as someone had to be in attendance for a small amount or a large amount, to turn as needed.

A BBQ party in the USA in colonial and westward expansion times lasted for several days! They made laws, one being that no guns were to be brought to a BBQ. large amounts of alcoholic beverages were also consummed.. . . perhaps that was the reason no guns were allowed!

Pork was the first meat used for BBQ, and pureists still say only pork is the real BBQ. then later, cattle became cheap in Texas and other areas, and Texas started beef barbeque.

Often less choice meats were cooked on the BBQ as the marinating and the slow cooking, then the chopping into small pieces tenderized it.

OH, most colonists and early settelers did not have very good teeth, and that is why the meat was chopped, not sliced. They needed tender meat since chewing was often painful. So the traditional way to have BBQ was chopped.

Now, some of the best BBQ cooks are still African Americans. After the emancipation but during the segregation period, they either worked as cooks for white resturant owners, or cooked in black only resturants. But everyone loved thier BBQ, and you could see lines of whites at thier BACK DOORS lined up to buy BBQ to take home, probably the first take out foods!!

Sauces for BBQ are as varied as their are cooks or chain establishments making and selling BBQ. Sweet, hot, spicey, thhick or thin, Everyone has a recipe. many of those old, passed down for generation recipes lead to a very successful and even famous BBQ resturants. If the recipes were old enough, they came from the African slaves, and were passed down in the families, both the Black families and the white slave owners families.

OK, more than you wanted to know, but . . . I thought it was interesting.
