Yes they most certainly are Ruby. On top of the "fees', there are extra course fees and the books! We almost have to take out a loan for those! It really tishes me off paying $50 on a book that comes back at the end of the year looking pretty well untouched. Wish the school would get there act together and actually use the book that is set in the curriculum.

Ruby, in bowls the "green" is generally between 31 metres and 40 metres square. It is divided into "rinks" which should be between 4.3 metres and 5.8 metres wide. I got that info from the official Rule book. Sorry it is in metric. Do you want me to convert?
The bowls come in different sizes and have a bias so you aim away from the "jack' and the bowl goes out in an arc and hopefully comes back and rests near the Jack.
I enjoy the social aspect of the game as I have never been a great sports person (unlike the rest of the family!)
Laura had her birhtday three weeks ago and she was two.
You have a great name as my Mother was called Ruby (I do realise it may be your sudoku name as you come from Ruby!)

Thanks for the bowls information. The information I had did not say. I hope Laura's two is not "terrible", as they say. Have a nice evening. Good night.

Saturday, drove down to Long Island (3 1/2 hrs) to my Mom's house. My sister and her hubby drove up from New Jersey (3 hrs) and arrived 5 minutes before us. The two hubbys worked on the garden all day, planting, mowing, painting fences, mulching. The kids watched tv (even tho a gorgeous day and grandma lives across from a park) She has cable tv and gets all of the shows. My sister and I took my Mom to the grave and then to my brother's house to say goodbye to him. He and his wife were packing their stuff in a moving truck. They moved to Maryland on Saturday! That was hard for my Mom, to see them go. Hubby made tuna on the grill with this rice dish and after dinner we went to the Fireman's Fair. The kids didn't win anything and since their cousins weren't around (my sister and her kids went away for the weekend), they didn't go on any rides. We walked around for a while and then walked back to my mom's.

Hi Gail, I have been reading your comments about school fees. Are these fees for your ordinary schools or are these private schools which you choose to send your kids to?
Here in the UK our state run schools don't charge fees and normally provide all text books and excersise books too. We may sometimes have to pay for a certain book or maybe art supplies and of course we buy pens, rulers etc

Hi Brenda!
On Sunday, we went to church by the beach and then went down to our old beach (the town beach we went to as kids) to look around. The place was empty, only a couple of people there. We drove to NJ to bring Brendan his stuff and watch the game. He was injured in the game on Saturday night (both arms got turf burn, one was bad) so he didn't play on Sunday. (which I was disappointed about) They won both games and therefore won the tournament on goal differential. (1st game 2-0, 2nd game 4-0) They had a little dinner reception for the team and the parents after the game. I thought we came far to see the game but one mom was from Greece and the other parents were from California/Lebenon. Both knew their sons wouldn't be playing because of injuries. Now that's support! We got home around 11pm on Sunday. Long weekend!

It is annoying whe the kids just want to watch tv when it is nice outside. I prefer to have the box switched off most of the time.. though I do have some programes I like to watch.

Brendan has been at uni since 8/17 but he doesn't start classes until tomorrow. D#1 was brought back to uni last weekend and she also starts classes tomorrow. D#2 starts 3rd form (private school that calls 9th grade that) on Wednesday, which is move-in day and orientation. S#2 also is supposed to have a half day of orientation for 7th grade, but as we can't be in two places at the same time, he has to miss it. He starts classes on Friday.

I am and I'm not. It is hectic trying to get school clothes washed, luches, homework, games, but now it is only one instead of three,(D#1 left last sept. so only 3 for this last year) so it will probably feel like a vacation. I won't know how strange it will be until D#2 is off at school. Since that is something new, we'll be taking that one day at a time. I don't know how she will do away from home, but it was all her idea!

Stella, glad you guys made it back home safely.
Been busy here cleaning during the day (even got hubby to trim the trees and scrub the tub) and cooking out in the evenings. Taking a break right now.
Sorry to here Brendan got hurt again. Do you think he would get upset if we dressed him up as the Michelin man?

Hope to catch up with everyone later.

Dino, glad you are more seal like now! Were you trying to loose weight? Or a side effect of the surgery?? Inactivity usually adds weight, but if you must get around on a hurty knee to shop for and prepare food, well I might make do with less.

If I google earth for your area, I will look for the seal with the most sparkle.

Sorry I missed you, have been out in the heat and humidity and bright sunshine cutting grass. Yard is loking better, I am not! Dripy hair, drippy shirt. time for cooling down fore going out again. Even riding on the new mower is hot! Huumm, should I get Al to build me a top for shade??

OH Brenda, there is a word dogtrot. It was an open breezway between 2 rooms in early settelers homes. here is a link to a photo.
http://www.stephenville.com/museum/dogtrot.htm

Typically, one room was for cooking, eating, sitting at night or on cold winter days, with a loft above for sleeping and was built first. then later the second room was added, and this was for sleeping, and the children were sometimes still put in the loft over the kitchen, cause that room was heated in winters and the warmest, with the banked fire in fireplace at night.

Later the dog trop might be closed in and become the central hall , entry to the home. The dog trot allowed for a coolplace to sit in the summers and a covered, somewhat protected area for the dogs in winter.

An older relative , farmer in Alabama, lived in one that had been added to again and again. The Original rooms were much bigger than that one shown, an the room on the right was the sitting room, the room to the right was the MIL's room (after all, it had been her house) and there was another set of rooms behind, for a dining room behind the central hall and bedrooms on one side, and a kitchen on the other. Inside the front 3 rooms, you could still see the logs this was made from, but siding had been added to the outside.

Something creepy happened today. I got an email from my flickr photo account from some guy who said he lived near Saratoga and wanted to know if I was interested in getting together for some adult fun! Do I look like someone who would even be remotely interested in that? I deleted all of my people pictures from the site. If there is a way to put a picture on your page without using flickr, let me know. Then I'll just delete the account altogether!

Here is another qustion from the calendar.

A simple subtitution code has been used to conceal a "quote." Work out the code to decipher the original words.

Little Miss Muffet:

MizT it is and never has been easy balancing calorie intake with calories burned, especially as all the nice treats are high in calories and I do like treats (I'm sitting here with a bag of chocolate bars beside me) I am resisting at the moment
