I can't imagine having to avoid all foods with preservatives. Here they sometimes put preservatives in fresh foods to give them longer shelf life.

Ooooh.... an unexpected TOPP.

The reason our jailer has been in office so long is that he's a "Good Ol' Boy". There are too many locals who will only vote for someone who is born and raised here. They don't care about qualifications.

Heidi, when we first moved to this small town it was kind of the same way. We had people on Town Council whose families had lived here for generations and many of them were blocking any kind of progress because it interfered with their own personal businesses (talk about conflict of interest). Thank heavens that has changed now for us!

As far as preservatives, I have problems with MSG. If I have eaten anything with MSG (which seems to be especially prevalent in Chinese food), I get palpitations and acid reflux.

If you want to be truly terrified by the small minds and illiteracy here, google Mac Trumbo (the incompetent jailer), and click on the Hodgenville Forum.

I have felt for a long time that there needs to be a minimum IQ requirement to vote. That, and the people here need to be replaced with "furriners". That's anybody who wasn't born here. I keep trying to encourage northerners to move here. It's too beautiful an area to allow it to be run by hillbillies.

Morning all!
Heidi, there's the compromise - put up with incompetence to live in a beautiful area. Sometimes it's worth it, and must be worth it to you. That doesn't mean I wouldn't complain about it though!

I don't know about vote, but a minimum IQ to run wouldn't be a bad thing. I want to be very clear that I don't mean grades in school, I mean intelligence. There is a big difference. Many intelligent people don't do well in school.

"Everybody in Chile and the world should see this as a sign that we should never lose hope. That we need to remember our collective humanity, and not get lost in a world of egotism and consumerism," he said.

So very very close!! I have everything crossed that nothing goes wrong and all of the men are safe soon.

I particularly like the wife going to get her hair done so that she would look nice when her husband got to the surface. As if he'd care! But it's nice that she does.

Has anybody here ever roasted chestnuts? I just got my first small crop from 2 trees I planted a couple of years ago. I heard that you roast them until they pop like popcorn, but I've never spoken to anybody who has done it.

Suzy, were you talking about this "forum"? (teehee)

Heidi, I've never roasted chestnuts.

I think elected officials should have a high school diploma. I know I need one for any job I apply for, no matter how menial.

Good mAen everyone;
Suzy: the 50 victims of bullying were either KILLLED or committed SUICIDE as a result. Last year New York had 41 deaths due to bullying!! My friend George & I have both been victims of bullies...WHO is responsible to make this STOP?? Parents, Teachers, Administrators, State Legislation?? George & I are talking about making a book or movie about shared experiences. Any thoughts here folks???

I looked up directions on how to roast them... it sounds easy enough... make an X cut in the shells, and roast at 425 degrees for 20 to 30 minutes. But i was wondering if anybody here has ever done it.

The scary part about that Hodgenville Forum is that it is a true indication of how the locals here read, write and think. The sad part is that Hodgenville is the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln, a very erudite man. He was so embarrassed by the community that he would not talk about the area where he was born. It hasn't improved.

I could not access anything on the hodgenb=ville forum, only pages and pages of adds for websites selling all manner of things. Oh well, I can imagine.

Heidi, enjoy your dinner at the cattlemen's meeting.

Suzanne, hope you enjoy the trip to view the changing colors. Camn I come with you? We will not have much color here, the leaves are turning brown and falling from lack of rain. If you get photos can you share with those of us who will have a brown fall?

speaking of rain, we may get some overnight, a huge wet patch coming at us from Mississippi, with some severe weather with it. I do hope we do not need to be on a weather watch tonight, I am already sleepy.

Suzanne, I support your effort to do a movie or a book about bulling, but ya know, I am not sure how much good it will do. There has always been bullying, and probably always will, it is the nature of the beast. It seems that it is ingrained that humans, like most animals, align themselves in a pecking order, with some few being dominant and the rest being subservient. I am not sure that is going to change. I do hope there is enough change to prevent the suicides so common now that internet takes bullying to a new level. This may not be a popular point of view, but I think the focus should be to teach those bullied how to cope, how to survive. There would be a better chance of that working I believe.

OK, now that I have stuck my neck out, I need to go fling food. If you disagree, tell me so, and why.

Hugs to all, and extras.

Evening all.

I am exhausted. I have read but not retained, so I will hopefully re-read tomorrow. Daughter has good days and bad days, today was a bad day. Grandies were whiney. It's early, but I am going to grab a snack and hit the hay. I have a headache that won't quit and my back is aching.

Tomorrow my daughter's MIL will be here to look after the grandies after school, so I will only have to get them ready for school. Talk to you tomorrow everyone, unless I can't sleep.

Hi all.
Theresa, my coffee maker also has a timer but I usually forget to set the clock. I do set it when I have to get up extra early.
Heidi, I knew he had to be a good ol' boy. Probably related to most of the folks also
Don't remember most of what I have read.
Mitchell had a good field trip. He was married, with one child and worked as an insurance underwriter. He made a decent salary, owned his own house and bought a sports car for fun. He does not know if he had a boy or girl. They were assigned "lives" and had to budget their salary. Gave them a taste of the real world.

I just heard on the radio, on the way back from the meeting, that the rescue of the miners starts in just under an hour. They'll start by lowering a medic down to help stabilize them, then it'll take about an hour per miner to get them up. That should take a while considering there are 33 miners.
I hope everything goes smoother than expected.

Thanks to whomever sent the rain. round one has come through, a nice thunder shower, with more lighter rain on the way. We sure did need it. I wonder if my front grass has greened up already, or if it will need sunshine tomorrow plus the rain to do so.

Hubby and I have to be out and about tomorrow morning, I may not get online to say hello fore we leave. I should be able to come chat tomorrow afternoon once we are back.

It is early, but I am soo sleepy. Since I have started sleeping nights again, I just cannot get enough sleep, 8 + hours at night and then a 2 or 3 hour nap! I guess I have some catching up to do??

See you tomorrow, leaving hugs with extras for each of you.

The rescue capsule is heading back down again, with another rescue worker inside. It's going slowly, but steadily. At this rate, they'll all be up in less than 2 days. This sure beats the Christmas prognosis.

Thunder! S'alright, I unplugged.

I still can't believe how emotional it was to see the first miner move. I couldn't breathe until I saw him move, then I cried harder than his son. Idiot that I am.
