I have a friend who is now living in Cairo. She was just iin Aus over the Chrissy period, but I didn't have a chance to catch up with her as I wasn't going over to Adelaide till late January. However, I see on her FB profile that she is heading back to Australia, I would imagine it is due to the troubles. Just told hubby I am going to zap over to Adelaide while she is here this time, I must catch up with her, it has been far too many years.

Yes Suzy, from all I have read, Cairns is definitely where Yasi will make landfall, soon.
My nephew and niece-in-law were due to fly out of Cairns to visit friends and family in Adelaide this weekend, needless to say their flight was cancelled and they are still in Cairns. She is halfway through her first pregnancy, hope she handles this all ok ♥

Happy birthday Max.
Gail, hope your nephew and his wife can find a safe haven in Cairns. Hoping that any damage caused is to property rather than people... property can be repaired or replaced people cannot.

You have my sympathy, Theresa. We're having a warm spell, normal for us, and it's raining again. It's supposed to get up to 54℉ / 12℃ today, then drop and snow tomorrow. I'm sick of the mud. It'll take Canadian type temps to freeze the stuff.

Heidi, I would much rather cold temps than hot and humid. But for some reason this year I really seem to mind the cold. Must be an age thingie ...

I also have a bunch of baby budgies in 3 different nests. I'm gonna have to get busy selling the previous batches off, to make room. I just like to see what color combinations I can come up with. So far, I've had no babies that excite me... color wise. I have hopes for two of the infants. Mama is a deep cobalt. I have no idea who daddy is, tho'. I'm hoping it's a cobalt pied male. Or the mauve spangled male. I'd love a cobalt spangled.

I just went to put my boots on and there was a cat toy in each one of them. Now at least I have something to play with at the bus stop.

Morning all,
Gail, it looks like you were right to worry about leaving Hannah home alone yesterday. I hope you have rain in your forecast!
Theresa, there's only a few things that would get me to the store in that weather..

Kind of grumpy today, it was still 29C/84F at 1am. Overnight low 24.4C/76F and now about 25C/77F with 56% humidity. Enough already!

Now I won't complain anymore as Queensland has a category 5 tropical cyclone pointed at them and Victoria has fires.

You are allowed to complain, Suzy. Extreme heat and humidity just exhausts you, especially when you don't get a good night's sleep.

Heidi, just looked it up and there are no active volcanoes in Australia. The most recent eruption was in BC. There is a volcano on one of the territories, the Heard Islands.

The weather is crazy. A cyclone in Australia and my nephew in Chicago is getting ready for a blizzard. My niece in Boston is also expecting snow and had her classes canceled after 11:30 today and is expecting a snow day tomorrow.

Mubarek has said he will not run for re-election in Egypt in September. I wonder if the people are willing to put up with him until then.

It is still snowing here, but not very hard as yet. I guess some parts of Texas had 10 cm of snow today. I guess we will not get the brunt of the storm in Canada, but it will get windy and perhaps 15 cm of snow. For us that is not a problem because we have the snow clearing equipment required, but I imagine people in Texas and Oklahoma are not as lucky. Chicago is getting hit quite hard - hope Julie stays safe.

Yes, Suzy. I was watching the news and they say how evacuation centres are full and telling people they should stay with relatives or friends. So scary ...

Grandies went off to bed without a whimper. Strange.

Does anybody have a news link I can follow for up-to-the-minute (or so) updates on Yasi? This sounds horrible. I don't think it'll be as destructive as Katrina because most of her damage and loss of life resulted from bad human planning... a defective dam wall, and removal of the swamps that would have absorbed most of the flooding before it hit the city.

Yeah, I just remembered and found it myself. They just said that the window of opportunity for people to evacuate has now closed. Anybody still there need to hunker down and hold out. Cairns already has horizontal rain and high winds.
