Julie, it's always a pleasure putting the grandies to bed.

I think your prediction of 6 more weeks of winter will turn out to be true.

Time to get another coffee. This is for everyone, whether you need it or not:

Morning everyone.
Thoughts going out to all those down under facing Yasi. Having gone through a few hurricanes, I can appreciate the feelings.
Julie, good vibes to you also. Spoke to my nephew yesterday and he was getting ready for the storm. I know he lives across the street from a lake, but not sure exactly where.
I heard this morning that the internet is back in Egypt. I hope Wagdy hears from his daughter soon and that all is well. I haven't been to easy to see if he posted any news there.

Another hot night. I have the AC on in the bedroom so it will be cool when I go to bed. Not bad outside as I hug out some washing...but I got attacked by mosquitoes!
Thinking and worrying about all those in north Queensland. My sister used to live up there and has many friends that will be affected.

Well like Dag and Zusy said some time before, watching the news does nothing to change the situation. I hope that those in line of any devastation have moved to safer ground and I am not talking about only OZ!

I got asked to fill in for someone in a bowls competition and we play tomorrow. I do not like playing in the heat. Expected to reach 37°C. Too hot to be out in the sun!!!

We have a winter storm warning in effect, but will hubby stay home? No, of course not. Visibility is very poor and there are lots of whiteouts. I've packed him a few extras for his lunch in case he gets stuck in the car.

Good Maen everyone! Julie: If he COULD get a restraining order, it would have to be against MOST of his apartment building. These folks are a religious group and they are just horrendous to him. George has been thru enough so far this year. He is the one I told you about whose mom was in a serious car accident several months ago. She is doing fine now. He also had to quit a job a while back due to harassment. I don't know what I can do for him from here, but he knows he has my support & love.

Gekko all, and HAPPY to those in North America.

It's lightly snowing right now. It could be worse. MUCH worse. So I'm not complaining.

Suzanne..... can't he just move? I know it's admitting defeat, but that's better than going thru' all that stress from those religious losers.

Still snowing quite heavily here. I had to give a great big push to be able to open the back door because of the drifts. Poor hubby will have to shovel before he can get in the driveway tonight. If I shovel, I will be in bed all day tomorrow because of the arthritis. Looks very Christmasy.

Yasi seems to have been downgraded to a category 3. They won't know what the conditions are like in the pathway until first light. Fingers crossed that no lives were lost. From the reports I've read Cairns did not get it as bad as first expected. That would be good news for Gail's family.

I have 4 more baby budgies!!! These are out of my 2 favorite birds, so they're keepers, I expect. Mama is a cobalt spangled opaline and daddy is a normal mauve. All babies will be dark blue or mauve, and maybe spangled or opaline. I don't know because I only know parents phenotypes, not genotypes.

Once all these babies are weaned, I'll take the nest boxes out of the cage. Parents need to rest and I don't want a massive population explosion.

Morning all,
I managed to sleep last night. I think all of the worrying wore me out. Category 3 is apparently winds of 250kph, so still destructive but better than category 5...

I keep going back to that news link with the 24 hour feed. They're starting to get a good idea of the damage by the vast destruction of trees. This has got to be devastating to all the wildlife that depend on trees for homes and shelter, as well as food.

Category 3 is still a nasty cyclone. And they think Yasi will maintain those winds for quite a while inland. This is far from over.

Glad to hear the early reports are better than expected. Thank you to everyone who is letting us know about the others. I was checking the news as I could at school today but did not have much to to look at anything other than the headlines. I am starting a tutoring job tonight. I will try to come back later. If not, see you all in the morning.

The cows are fed, and I'm back inside warming up. The flurries are still coming down, but there's been no accumulation. Hard to believe that I was outside without a jacket yesterday.

Still snowing here - there is about a foot and a half accumulation in the driveway itself.

Good news from FNQ so far - no casualties reported. Continued thoughts going out to all those affected.

I have no idea when hubby will get home. He was going to stop and get himself a shawarma on his way home. I've made a dream pie for dessert (usually saved for special occasions). I think he will need the boost of energy when he gets home.
