Mamacita, I'm supposed to know the metric measurements, growing up in Canada and all, but I still am more comfortable most with standard measurements.
Grannie Mo, I don't think you will find any takers for your lost weight here.

WHOO HOOOO Rena.....good going! You are doing great! Desire when stressed is very common...and hard to beat unless you do something relaxing for yourself...like a nice bubblebath, and perhaps a glass of water with lemon in a fancy glass, or something physical...like a long walk or exercises at a gym....and the cravings will leave..just hang in there.

Today was my first weigh in since I have reduced the snacks and alcohol for Lent....The full committment has not yet taken place, and won't until after Paris...but I'm trying to stop the bad habits and hold down the weight gain.Today's weight is the same as last week.....not an unexpected result, but I'm hoping that it will start going down again simply because I'm taking in fewer calories and have rediscovered water in large amounts...lol. Cheers one and all....water of course

Thanks Rosemary. I'm around, just not too chatty lately. I've made it through a tough couple weeks with only gaining 1 pound. Check out my latest pics on my photo gallery and you will see why it's getting tougher to be active.

As for smoking, I'm still plodding along. I promised myself I wouldn't buy any ciggies and I have. BUT, I've kept it to a bare minimum and I'm still only having 1 to 3 a day. I still have a day or two that I have none.

Keep it up everyone!! Keith, I'm gonna walk to CA and kick your hinder if you don't get in here and check in!!!

Yes, mam, Angie. Reporting in as ordered.

Weigh in report for week 7: I've skipped weigh ins now for 6 weeks, because the news was bad and I couldn't bring myself to face up to it. I've been talking the good line, but not living the good line. Since my only other weigh in this year, at the end of week 1, I've gained one pound. Actually, I'd gained more, but brought it back down to just one for today's weigh in. I hope I can continue the downward trend. I hope the rest of you are having a better start to the year than I am.

Hang on Keith...don't beat yourself up. You were looking pretty good in the picture with Dino and Shosho, so keep working at it. What goes up will come down....I keep reminding myself of that fact. Today's weigh in for me showed a loss of 1.5 lbs......while I'm glad to see it take on the downward trend, I have much work to do....So Keith, we're all here because we have all been on the same elevator. We know it often gets stuck and goes back up before coming down...but ride it any way....a change will come. Cheers...water of course!

Girl Scout Cookies arrived today. I may never come back to this page out of shame. It is completely possible that I will eat an entire box in one sitting. Especially if the box happens to be frozen Thin Mints and I have a tall glass of milk to go with it.

Nah!! I'll be back. I forgot to weigh in, so will do that tomorrow and report back here. Last time I did, a couple days ago, I was staying about the same. As for the ciggies... well, not good, not bad. Still at the 1 or 2 a day. For now, I will just be okay with that.

Keith, good to see you back on here. Remember that we care what happens - Good OR Bad. Don't be a stranger next time.

OMG!! Okay, I'm not doing as good as I thought I am. I gained 2 more pounds, ugh. I'm blaming it directly on the cookies and the fact that I made homemade spaghetti.

Angie.....Some days the scales areright, and then for some unknown reason they just take off like crazy...lol....hang in there, not too bad with the ciggies...just enough to keep the nicotine level to remain intact...but keep trying and you will stop when you are really, fully ready. You will suprise yourself...I know I did. I didn't think I'd make it, but I did!

Keith...Sometimes you just have to give yourself 'permission' to reach a certain weight, and make a promise to yourself that when you do reach that weight, you will then make a change, since it affects your health too much....Make it a goal weight that is close to where you are currently, so that you don't get too far away from your overall goal of becoming healthier...Perhaps this type of thinking will take some of the pressure off for now. Meanwhile, why don't you chart what you are splurging on that's causing you to gain...and then when you restart your changes..do it slowly. For example, if you are currently drinking 4 bottles of beer a day, try drinking just three, and so forth....or giving your self one free day a week to splurge on your favorite indulgence. Hope these ideas help you to refocus on your health...not the weight. You are the Master of Your Actions and you can do it!

I haven't been here for a while. Just can't seem to find the time to get here. It has been two months now. Last week, I switched to the lower nicotine gum. Chewing one or two more a day than the stronger ones, but will get it down soon. I am still not getting out for a walk and have gained five pounds since I quit. So, instead of putting it off, I shall go for a walk now before we start school.

I, too, haven't been back for a while. I have been plateauing for some time sitting at 72kg for about 6 weeks (at least it wasn't going up!) But 2 weeks ago I decided to get completely anal retentive about the whole thing and I am now trying to lose 1 kg per week for the next 3 months. To this end I am now exercising on the cross-trainer twice daily (30mins each time) and doing about an hours worth of crunches and other ab and butt exercises and push-ups (well, it takes me about an hour to do it all - I have lots n lots of breaks) and every other day I beat up my partner, Paul, with a boxing workout as well. I have lost 3kg and for the first time since I started in September I have had comments from people that I am looking really good which has probably been the biggest motivator for me.
Paul has also booked me in for another week at Camp Eden and that, too, has motivated me - probably more than the dread of being a fat bride on a beach maybe because it is a closer date. I probably want praise and good vibes from the staff. Silly me.

I forgot to post my congratulations to everyone here.

Well done Rena and Angie! I know from watching both my mother and my sister giving up (my mother was told when she was 40 that she would be dead within 2 years if she didn't give up she did and survived another 17 years) that giving up those evil sticks is really really hard. Have you tried aversion therapy? Like, every time you get a craving you have to do 20 sit ups? My two eldest children used to look at themselves in a mirror during dinner all the time and we made it that every time they were caught they had to do 5 push ups and that they had a 10% per day interest rate if they didn't do them (it also taught them some maths!). It didn't take long for them to be broken of that habit! And as a side benefit my son got a really good mark in PE for being able to do the most push-ups!
Keith, it's like smoking - every time you feel you want to eat find something else to do like have a drink of water, go outside and pull up 10 weeds in the garden, do push-ups or whatever.
You are all doing so well. Just keep going.

Good seeing you back Rose...and doing a great job with that exercising....you should be a very fit
bride!
Rena...If you have managed to not only stop lighting those cigarettes, but reduced the nicotine patches too, you will be able to lose the weight you have gained...and you are doing the right thing by walking...that will not only help with the weight loss, but will give you the deep breathing that will help expand the lungs...Rock on everyone. My weigh in report is good today, I have dropped 2 more pounds since last week...I'm a happy camper, but still have a way to go to reach my goal weight, but I'm heading in the right direction.

Okay, I have just a quick report. I've been very busy lately with a 5 year old who is being a (bad word) at school. He's realllllly bored. I hope everyone on here is doing well, I have had very little time to post here, on the easy page.... or even to read the news on either page. I have lost 2 pounds (the sneaky girl scout cookie ones). I am down to 1 ciggie a day...still. Take Care, I Care.

Busy or not Angie...you are doing well...now what can we do to get the little one involved in something stimulating????? Thinking caps one and all...bright children must be challenged or they will misbehave. Hang in there Angie. What is he interested in? Perhaps we can come up with some ideas...has the teacher used sudoku as a reward for free time...some of the flash games? Puzzles are a thinking way to help fill free time while stimulating minds.

Weigh in this week - 68kg. Yeah. Doing my time on the machine of death is still difficult even with the motivation of results! I also put on a pair of pants that I bought just before I fell pregnant with Elinor (so still overweight from the IVF drugs)! It was almost like buying new clothes.

Angie, I am so proud of you. That last cigarette is all psychological. You will have to really look inside yourself to ask yourself why you can't let go of it. I know that part of the reason I was having so much trouble with my weight was that it was so much easier to blame the fact that I was fat as the reason why I was feeling so bad instead of having to face the real reason. I was comfort eating to punish myself for being overweight and tired all the time and for my body having put my babies at risk and for not being able to get VB to feed properly like a real woman should and ... you get the picture. Good luck with your 5 yr old. Doesn't the school have any programs in place to deal with kids like him? The teacher should have a project of some sort (craft or finding out or computer work) that she can use as a reward for him when he finishes the normal class work and while he is waiting for the rest of the class to finish.

Hi Rose and Mama. Thanks for the kudos. Rena needs them too as she actually QUIT!! The envy is dripping on my end. I don't want to give up smoking, because, quite honestly, I like it. It's smelly and makes my breath stink and I don't even care. I just like it. Like I've said, I managed to cut it waaaay back. I could give you all a million reasons why I haven't just quit yet. I don't have any other "vices". I don't drink, I don't go out (not even with friends), I'm not involved in any sports or anything like that. People say I should get involved in all those other things.... but babysitters cost money (Rose, you're probably the only one here who doesn't know this, but I'm a single mom raising 3 kids on my own) Anyways, anything I come up with will just be an excuse. Until I decide that I'm done, I'm never gonna be able to quit. On a lighter and nicer note, I did happen to meet a nice guy this past weekend who is a non-smoker. That in itself may speed up my quitting

And also, a tidbit about my deep thinker. Here's some info for you all to chew on. He's incredibly intelligent for someone who's about to turn 6 years old. The problem is getting him to DO the work. He's so bored because he already knows it, so he refuses to do it. They see him as a behavioral problem, I see him as a child who's starving for a challenge.

Well Angie...The devil made you post that last comment.... You know, I really admire a woman who knows the problem and the solution.....You are right on, you will never stop smoking until you are ready, And admitting that you ENJOY Smoking is important. So many won't admit the enjoyment part. It does make it harder, but when the right time comes and you do make the choice, you will be able to do it successfully.
As for the little on in need of a challenge...keep moving the level of challenge of work presented to him until you find a fit...the challenge doesn't only have to be in the form of academic work ....but once a fit is found, he can then get the hard 'fun' only after completing the basic stuff. It will take time and patience, but it is necessary.....many gifted children can become behavior problems. Testing should be done to check his academic ability and placement...even though he's 6 years old, he seems to be functioning at a higher age level. Schools must find an answer, but often must be challenged by parents in search of the right educational level. You will have to be in the fore front as his advocate. Lots of luck..its not easy, but needed!

No change in weight this week. I had a bad week last week food wise, but found out later that all the cravings were due to a mineral deficiency and I probably would have been fine if I had just given in and had those chips when I wanted them instead of resisting and eating something else and then something else when that didn't satisfy! I am now on a high mineral multivitamin and I don't have those problems anymore.

Just found this page...
2 days ago I decided to change my lifestyle. I am going to get fit and get back into my older clothes which have been in storage.
Day one was the 15 March. I am going to lose 5 kg. My final goal is 10-12 kg.
I have started on the celebrity slim diet which seems to be going well for the first few days. My hunger is being satisfied.
Wish me luck... I will keep in contact so that I do not stop.
Back to 2 weekly excercise classes too.

Welcome aboard Shar!

My deep thinker boy is doing better :) Sitting in on his class gave his teacher some needed feedback of what I was seeing. He's plain and simply bored. He has some harder work to do now and a smilie face program that is tied into his computer time at home is doing wonders. His day has been broken down into the major sections and then his behavior during those times is recorded. My idea, of course. Such a simple plan that has shown his teacher that there are specific times of the day that he acts up and others that he loves. It's helping reinforce the positives which wasn't happening before. I have him scheduled for some testing this summer. Waiting on the insurance to tell me if they will cover it or not. I'm having it done no matter what, but would prefer to not have to pay thousands of dollars for something the school won't do for another 2 years. *sigh* Thanks to everyone who has given me wonderful support and ideas on here!! I am also posting this on the easy page.

Welcome to H&F Shar....you are on the right track...hang with it. We're with you all the way!

Today, my 5th week of no alcohol, ice cream or chocolate, and a general cut back of food and increased drinking of water has helped me to remove almost 9 lbs. This w/o my former exercises, but I'm hoping that the warmer weather will allow me to do more walking. As Lent draws to an end, and I reintroduce all of the goodies back into my diet...I'll have to work much harder. I'd like to lose another 10 lbs during the rest of the year...I'll see how it goes.

Hi Angie, Mamacita and Shar (and the lurkers)
I don't know what I did last week but I managed to lose another kilo and I am down to 67 kg! 10 to go but only 4 weeks until I have promised Ariane I will start to look at wedding dresses. Not something I am looking forward to. I saw my doc again last week and my sugar levels are back down to being fantastic. I need to get my bmi down one more point and she will take me off the diabetes medication!
Welcome Shar! Which diet are you on? What classes are you doing? I'm back up your way in May at Camp Eden.
Angie, I am sooooo pleased that you have managed to show the teacher that she doesn't have to do too much more to engage your son. I always said I wanted bright children... until I got them and then I found that they were a lot of (rewarding) work! Remember the old joke: how many psychiatrists does it take to change a light bulb? One. But it has got to want to change. My sister has given up smoking 3 or 4 times in the last 8 years (our mother died of lung cancer in 2000) but she keeps starting up again. We have worked out that she is punishing herself for something everytime that she starts up again. So we have been really working on her sense of self-worth over the past few months.
Mama, you should be very proud of what you have done. My biggest downfall was chocolate when I was running out of energy but I found that with my diabetic medication and exercise I haven't been running out. I have had some chocolate over Easter but it doesn't taste the same.
OK. This was a big post. Keep up the good work everyone and don't get despondent if you stumble. Love Rose
