Mary, I'm thinking it's all uphill. When I can make it up my driveway without gasping for breath, I'll really be happy. The driveway is uphill for at least half a kilometer.

Was thinking of perhaps asking Gath to start a "Health and Fitness 2008" page. what do you think?

I am at the same weight. Monday, I had 2 ciggies, yesterday, I had 3 and today I have only had 1 and it's almost noon. Not too bad I guess.

I'll be thrilled when I get my cheerleader smilie back.

One week of no cigarettes. Woo Hoo! Nuka is benefiting from this also. Most days we go for a walk after lunch. Several times a day, I find myself thinking, "Time for a smoke". Especially when I walk into the kitchen. That is where I made my smokes before going outside with them. If I could just avoid that room altogether... Unfortunately these people here expect food to come out of it.

Hi Everyone! Still smoking, but I have cut back like I said in the last post. I am sticking to my plan and refuse to buy more smokie treats when these run out. On the down side, I seem to have put on a few pounds this week. (not happy). I'm hoping it is just a "girl" thing and will return to normal next week. Rena, Hope you are still going strong! You made it this far, don't give up!

Since it's a new year, I guess I'll start counting from 1 Jan again. Weigh in for week 2, no change since last week ... not much of a report.

Angie, a big part of the reason I'm overweight is my several long term attempts at quitting smoking. If a few pounds come on, so be it. Getting rid of the cigs is so much more important to your health than a few pounds.

Rena, way to go. Be strong ... don't give in to the urges.

End of week 2. I dreamed I was smoking. I must want a cigarette more than I am willing to admit to myself. I really wanted to smoke today. I can't smoke it if I don't buy it. The gum is helping with the cravings. I'm using 7-8 pieces a day. Down a couple.
Thanks for the support from everyone.
I hope you all are doing well with your goals.

Rosemary, where did you go? I miss you here.
Keith, remember to pick the lesser of 2 evils when making your food choices. Big cyber cheer for still hanging in there!
Rena!! You are awesome!! Glad to know that I am not the only one who has vivid dreams of smoking, lol!
Hi all! Good and Bad news today. In the last 14 days I have gained 10 pounds (yes, I said 10) but have lost 3 now. My roller coaster weight is directly related to my hand to mouth issue. As I wind down on smoking, I seem to have an enormous appetite. And I'm not just talking about wanting to pt something in my mouth. My stomach has been growling and complaining for the last couple weeks. I have made some really bad food choices (I ate an entire box of Triscuits in one day) and the weather has been so bitter cold, we can't go play and run. Ugh!! Okay the good news. Monday I only smoked one ciggie and yesterday I only smoked one ciggie. I am on the slide. I will be done soon.

Good job with the smokes, Angie . Now, throw them away. Remember, if you don't buy 'em you can't smoke 'em.
End of week three- I'm late for check in, am I in trouble. Still hanging in. The cravings don't seem so bad now, but I still want a cigarette. If I keep myself busy, I don't even think about it. When I did smoke, lots of times I was anxious to finish what I was doing so I could go have a smoke. I only smoked outside and the weather has been cold lately, so I really don't miss that. This was a good time of year for me to quite because I smoked less in the winter.

Four weeks and still going strong. Down to 5-6 pieces of gum per day. It should be used for three months at least. I think I will only need that long. I no longer have a cigarette cough at all.

Rena, hun, good for you!

This page seems to be getting rather sparse in posts. Hmmmm. I wish it didn't have to be that way.

I continue on my journey to quit smoking. It absolutely disgusts me, though, to be gaining weight at the same time. I finally managed, after 3 long years, to reach my goal weight late last year. Since reaching said goal, I decided to quit smoking and promptly gained 10 pounds. I haven't bought ciggies since before Christmas and I will NOT buy any more. That said, I still have some left. I went 2 days, not in a row, without smoking and most days I only have one or 2. I'm looking forward to getting rid of them. That's a step in the right direction, methinks. With summer coming, I'm really going to have to get with the program of losing this weight....again.

I have just discovered this page. What a great idea. You are all so supportive towards each other to reach your goals. I wish you all good luck. I gave up smoking many years ago when I was pregnant. It was the hardest thing to do because everyone smoked then. I found that I had so much time on my hands when I stopped. It's a great time waster. You have to reward yourself every time you reach a milestone. Buy a new dress or piece of jewellery, or a weekend away. That's what I did so I felt it was worth giving up something I loved for something else that I loved. But The prize was, I got healthier in the meantime. My daughter found it almost impossible to give up so she went to the doctor who prescribed Zyban, an antidepressant which made the cravings go away and she did it in 3 months. She stopped the drug as well. The doctor told her that the gum just keeps putting nicotine into your body as do the patches. Best wishes to all.

Sabina, nice to see you here.

I am still continuing on my quit smoking plan. Have gone a total of 3 days (not in a row) without smoking and I'm still having 1 or 2 a day. I am also still carrying around this extra 10 pounds that I didn't have at the beginning of the year!

Hi Everyone.....I'm backkkkkk.... and with good reason! I need to lose weight and the support here helps.....I am still a pound less than I was in Jan,07, but my stamina and good habits have fallen by the wayside. There is too much going on right now to make a full commitment, but during lent I intend to stop all alcohol, chocolate and ice cream....that should go a long way into helping me to stop gaining at least....the exercising and other good stuff will be added a little later. I will note my weight tomorrow, and see what the next few weeks bring. I'll keep all informed.
Rena and Angie/W...Kudoes to you both ! The smoking habit is the most difficult habit to break. I've read that its more difficult to stop smoking cigarettes, then stopping heroin....so keep doing what you are doing and I wish you all the good wishes in the world. I know you both will get there! I stopped about 8 different times before I was successful...but I did it...so will you!

Well, February 2nd was my official one month mark. Today is end of week five. Still doing good. My reward for not smoking is $50 a month extra in my Australia/New Zealand Trip fund. I'll be going in November with my daughter. Another good reason to quit, that plane ride is awfully long.
Rosemary, you gave me a good idea. I'm going to start weighing myself in kilograms, it's a smaller number.
everyone. I'm cheering for you all.

Hi all, thanks for all your thoughts and wishes. The surgery went well. It has been 10 weeks now so my excuses for not exercising are not valid anymore. My plan is to start on the exercise bike, just 5 minutes at first until I see if my body has truly healed. I would like to lose at least 5kg, preferably 10. Most importantly, I want to have more energy!!!!

Well it looks as if you ladies are doing a great job getting the weight off...keep it up. I really like the idea of rewarding oneself with a money purse for future vacations...great idea Rena.
Please help me out if you can by telling me the conversion numbers for kilos. or kgs....I only think in lbs....never did get the metric training and am lost. Wednesday will be my weigh in day....I'm doing well avoiding chocolate, ice cream and and alcohol, but the exercise has just been walking the dog and all over casino floors trying to find slot machines that paid off a little....but no real stuff...that's coming. Water is helping to do the job in reducing the snacking...

About 2.2 lbs per kilo mamacita...

Multiply kilos by 2.2 to get pounds.

Divide pounds by 2.2 to get kilos.

End of week 6. Still doing good. The cravings are getting less intense and less frequent. I get them most when I feel really stressed. I have been slacking on the walks with Nuka, lately. Time to get back on track.
