CynB, glad to hear your husband's eye is better, though maybe he would have liked a day off work?

I took the ds shopping and ended up with 6 new colours for mobile phone socks. I asked them how many coats can one mobile phone wear, especially since d2 doesn't even have a mobile phone!! They tell me they will give them as gifts. d2 informs me that she would like a matching mock and scrunchie for when she starts year 7 and gets her own phone. Who said she could have a phone!!!

Hi Suzy, I'll help you along the way to the next TOPP
Those phone socks are great, I bought some for a couple of the girls one Xmas.
My Dd#2 came up with a great plan last night. We could put her on a contract phone, instead of her pay as you go phone. then she could have unlimited texts and 100 minutes calls all for the small sum of £15 a month. Now this doesn't sound too bad, but my DD can go through £30 credit on her phone in a matter of days. I top her phone up by £10 every month and she gets 300 texts free for that and free evening calls to other users on her network. I can see her using her 100mins calls within a couple of days and then building a big bill up. Husband thinks we should do the contract and if she does go over by lots of money she will have her phone taken off her until the bill is paid off.

Brenda - I would say definitely no contracts! Kids over here can run up bills well over $1000! And if you take the phone off her, you are still paying the #15 a month for an unused phone (I don't seem to have a pound key).

Besides that, this is what I tell my girls, they need to 'be where they are'. I've lost count of the number of groups of teenagers I have seen sitting together, not talking to each other, but texting the people who aren't there!

d1 has hers for 'emergencies', and although I know she slips in some personal stuff, she is pretty careful. $20 can last 3 months.

Well off to get ready for my 2nd last day at work.... Assuming of course I don't have to rush d1 to the doctor... She has lumps on her head, lots of them... I'll wake her up and see how she is this morning

Teens are not the only ones who can run up bills on mobile phones. when we worked in town, and hubby was making service calls all the time, to many of his customers got his mobile number. He wold run up $300 a month easy! And this was before the pay as you go was available. I would let off steam every time I got the bill, ( my job was keeping the accounts ) but next month, another $300. I could not take his phone from him, he is bigger than I am!

Now, we cannot get good signal down here, but keep a pay as you go for when we travel. Even running erands, always get the phone, and we pick up service a few miles from home, any direction we take. His $20 card lasts him 3 months, now, in fact we have built up extra minutes now.

YES, I agree, teens need to " be where they are" . I see them texting EACH OTHER when sitting right at same table at a resturant! go figure! they will soon loose the ability to talk, you think??

Morning all - MizT, June, Rolanda and Suzy.

Doesn't it make you wonder how we all survived being teenagers without mobiles?
I must admit I drove my mother MAD from being on the phone for hours every night. She'd make me hang up and before she could phone out, I'd get another call.
