OH, hubby was unhappy with me on Tuesday. Monday I had taken the cell phone. I keep it in my purse and I do not keep it on! Once that phone rang when I was driving and i almost swerved into oncoming traffic! I cannot talk and drive safely, so I do not turn it on. I turn it on only if I need to phone someone.

Ok, I had the phone, actually used it to call home while at store, asking hubby questions about a purchase or 2. Then I LEFT IT in my purse when I got home!

Wednesday afternoon, Al gets a phone call from a neighbor, asking Al if he cold come down for a bit, he might need a ride. Well, luckily hubby understood that message, neighbor was having chest pains. Al grabs the cell phone ( which you remember does not get a signal here) and leaves, saying if he has to take E to the ER he will phone me when he gets dsignal.

Turns out he did have to leave with E. another neighbor happend to phone for AL and I found out from him, they were seen leaving together in E's car.

OK a bit later, I get a ring on the phone, but noone there when I anwer. Caller ID ( another one of those things we now cannot do without, although lived just fine for 40 something years without it). It was hubby. I thought, OK, he phoned fore he really got a good signal.

Kept trying to return his call, nope, to voice messages ( another convenience or an agrivation?)

About 30 minutes later, I get another phone call, and it is from the local hospital, E is being checked by docs, and I am in the dog house for not putting phone on charger last night!

I hadn't realised we were that close to TOPP.
How's the weather doing MizT, are your plants safe from the cold yet?
I was hoping to get some of my veg planted out this week but we have had frosts and hailstorms. Hopefully next week it will be better

YES, plants are happily residing on back porch now, once again. No frost in forecast, although temps are still cool at nights. I think they were in low 40's this morning.

I'm guilty of that too. My phone, which I actually never turn off, was beeping for me to put it on charge, trouble is I couldn't think where it was.I was always in a different part of the house when it beeped. Eventually found it in the coat pocket I wore yesterday to walk the dog.
It is against the law here to use a phone whilst driving, though the number of people who still do it is amazing. I can't get used to using handsfree kit so I just leave calls to answer when I am finished my trip.

I did have a couple of casualities. It seems those blankets over containers were tempting to one of the cats! Curled up on the blanket, which was on top of the plants, and took a nap. morning after first frost, I uncovered the container and found one salllvia plant had broken. bloom was nipped in the bud. Second morning, another plant bit the dust. Well, just the topps out of them, and I am sur ethey will put out more blooms, and possibly more of them. One gardening friend from many years ago, would plant out many flats of anuals, the type that have one big perfect bloom on them, to show the color. and then, she would go down the bed and PINCH OFF THE BLOOM! Said would make them spread and put out more blooms, but I have great trouble pinching off a perfect bloom. Maybe the cat did it for me on those 2 plants hehe

Many states here have no talking while driving rules, hands free only. I cannot get accustomed to the idea of that, and do not have hands free set up on mine.

Yes, E had an arteriogram on Wednesday, and they put in a stint. he came home last evening. Said he is feeling a LOT better already. I had been worried about his for a while, knew he was having problems that needed mecidal attention, but he would not go to doc. Not even when I tried scaring him into it. I think the chest pain was severe enough he got concerend, this time.

Well plants just live to seed, so if you take out the flower heads (I would leave then for a while to enjoy the bloom) you will get many more flowers to enjoy. I'm still waiting for my winter pansies to stop blooming in my hanging baskets. I will not turf them out while they are still looking nice.
I have just read an article in our local free newspaper. In a nearby town some kids had tidied up a derelict garden and planted lots of flowering shrubs only to have the shrubs stolen over night by some greedy person. Why do people do that sort of thing?

Pleased he is on the mend, Hopefully this will wake him up to the fact that if he is not well something serious might need attention. I know it costs money for your medical treatment, but sometimes that cannot be helped.

And before anyone asks why hubby did not call 911 for neighbor, let me explaine. We have a volunteer fire department, unmanned and out medics are also volunteer. they have day jobs, and usually not nearby. Once volunteers worked in nearby towns, but now most commute toward the big city, about an hour away. So daytime it is a LONG wait for anyone to come. It is faster to put someone in the auto and drive off to the ER. and HOPE they do not have a heart attack on the way. But you can be at ER in same ab=mount of time you were waiting for medics.

I have never smoked so cannot judge how difficult it would be to stop. He will deserve a medal if he can do it while someone else in his home still smoked.

I am waiting for my pansies aslo, Brenda. Mine have put on non stop blooms since October! Well worth the $$ I spent for the nine pack of small pn=lants, I think I got them for $3. Best $3 investmnt I have made recently. I have 3 long " window box" shaped containers just bursting with color still.

I am growing zineas from seed for thier summer relpacements. there will be no started annuals on sale by time the Pansies are finished, grow my own.

I never thought about them not calling 911. We are fortunate enough to have ambulances nearby with full time staff. I probably would still have taken someone to ER by car as we live about 2 miles from the hospital. If they had collapsed that would have been a different story then an ambulance would have to be called.

It is not easy to stop smoking when one's spouse smokes. I did it, about 7 and a half years ago. I had a very bad Upper respiratory infection, could not stand smoke, so I stopped. After a week of being too sick to smoke, decided I could stay stopped. I had " practiced' the stop smoking thing 2 or 3 times before, and picked them up again. this time, not a one in 7 1/2 years. now I am one of those terrible former smokers who cannot stand cigarette smoke!

Well done you. I am one of those terrible people who has never smoked and actually will not allow anyone to smoke in my house. If they want to they can go outside. No one at home smokes now. Richard gave up just after we met, but even when he smoked he went outside. Step daughter and her partner both smoke and you can tell as soon as they get anywhere near I can smell the nicotine.

It was lovely reading their convo!

Just popping in briefly to say thank you to all who 'threw' me a party in here on Tuesday. All in all, it turned out to be a great day, even though I had been trying not to think about it.
Thank you friends.

MizT, your husband's interpretive skills are amazing! To understand that 'I might need a ride' meant he was in trouble shows a great understanding of other men, or at least this one.

I found where I saved the post about avatars:

www.shrinkpictures.com click on 'create avatar' I think there is a link for examples too.
Also, www.resize.com I've used both of these.

On the shrinkpictures site (which I use and it works great) change the avatar size box from 200 to 50.

The horses are going to spend today in the back paddock - they chase the dogs to keep themselves entertained! I wonder if they are getting enough nourishment myself Oh well, their owners know what they are doing..

It's school holidays so of course it is raining. d1 wants to go bowling with a friend, which means d2 wants to go too. Sigh. I suggested d2 come with me when I go for coffee with friends instead. I go every other Saturday (when life doesn't get in the way) and today is the other day.
