It seems that SA7 is getting old and slow. It is time for a new page. Welcome to SA8.

Sorry, MizT went away for hours. No I haven't read the Bees book - probably should have before I saw the movie.
Re - the cyclone - still heading south, off the coast of Rockhampton, downgraded to Cat.4. There's no guarantee where it will hit land. It could come as far south as Brissie. In 1974, a cyclone crossed the coast just North of Brissie and caused a massive, devastating flood - the worst since 1893. They have built a much bigger dam NW of Brissie since and done a lot of flood mitigation but it's never been thoroughly tested. We won't get flooded where we live but if the winds are gale force, we'll could have problems being close to the bay. (Broni too).

Yes Suzy, that's the one I've been watching but I think it's moving so slowly (I think I heard 30kph) that there's not much to update on.
I'm off to bed now so goodnight all and have a nice day, topsiders.

I hope someone will keep us updated on the cyclone. Even with a map, I am Aussie geography challenged, and need someone to tell me what I am seeing and who is in the path of that cyclone. Be safe overnight, friends.

I had not noticed times are messed up, how far are they off? USA went to daylight savings time, and if Gath's server is here, it could mess with his times on the site. I think we had a problem, time one hour off, when time changed in the fall(Aussie spring) .

Heidi, are you lurking? I have that feeling and just a bit of evidence pointing to that.

all. I do not like Daylight savings changes. I have enough problems getting to sleep at night, then the clock says I got up an hour later than my body does.
I've got a full day today, so I'm gonna have brekkie and get busy.

Morning all!
I just checked the cyclone progress map and it seems to have moved away from the coast a little. It is south of Susan and north of Broni and Cyn and is heading south east. It does seem to be moving very slowly as in 2 days it will still be north of them and they think it will be down to a category 2. So it seems no sudoku people are in any danger (that I know of), the mainland people might get a little wet, but the islands are probably copping it. They have mostly been evacuated though.

Suzy, is a cyclone in Australia the same as a hurricane up this way? It sounds the same but I am not sure.

Hi Tami, they are called different things all over the world but are basically the same thing. I'm pretty sure they rotate in opposite directions in southern (clockwise) and northern (anti/counter clockwise) hemispheres.

Morning Broni.

Was just talking to Mum, she had to hang up so she could take a photo - of a kookaburra sitting next to the tin kookaburra sculpture she has sitting in her garden...

Nola is at Bundaberg, I think she will get a bit wet.
Good morning All, rained well overnight. The garden needed it.
How secure is your boat Broni if the cyclone moves south?

Forgot about Nola, how could I forget Nola - the map says Wednesday morning early for Bundaberg, but it should be category 2 or 3 by then. I hope so anyway.

As secure as she can be June, last big storm we had here our boat ripped the pontoon off its mooring, fortunately no major damage.

I need to feed sheep, then will probably take a nap. For some strange reason, I seem only able to sleep during daylight now. I lay awake at night, tossing and turning.

Heidi, I hope the tornado warning lifts with no damage. You have had enough problems this year already. I don't think you need any more.

The rain is coming down in buckets. Raining cats and dogs. But no sign of the Tornado here.... I've seen enough of them in the past to last a lifetime. Back in '98. I had one go right over the top of me. It sounded like an express train. I was curled up in a fetal position on the ground among some calves.

Not a place I would want to be Heidi. I hope all the calves were ok at that time. Is there a way to protect your outdoor animals from a tornado?

The safest place for livestock in a Tornado is outside in the open. Buildings can't hurt them, then.

In '98, Magnolia was hit with 3 Tornadoes in 1 hour. The biggest of the 3 went through "downtown" Magnolia, after tearing a 1/2 mile wide swath through the countryside. Besides destroying 250 homes, it hit a dairy. 160 cows. Half were killed outright, impaled by pieces of their barns and milk parlor. My best friend was the Vet on duty. She's still haunted by the horrors that Tornado did to animals.

I will NOT regale you with descriptions of what those types of winds can do.... I think the highest was clocked at 250 MPH. Only to say that they have a greater chance on their own than if confined.
