i gotta hurry in here suzy with my two bits. i don't think you should offer to pay. you should just offer to fix it. get a handy friend or your husband to do it if they accept. heck, it is a pretty easy thing to do, just ask for their leftover paint, bring some spackle and do it yourself. i they know you plan on doing it yourself they are less likely to take you up on it!

MizT, I buy very little pre-made food. Been trying to cut down on our fat and salt intake. Plus, MSG doesn't agree with me.

Suzy, went into one of those shops with SIL (her idea ) and was practically rolling in the aisles. She's a hoot, but some of her reactions were priceless.

Feel bad for Ally, being lied to then having this happen. Glad that she appologized. I'd make the offer and leave it up to the other mother to decide. Here's a side note tho, if she takes you up on it, check your homeowners insurance. Here in the US, it would fall under the liability coverage.
