Tummy has settled down. I can eat food that stays down now.
I just had another nap.... amid jack hammers shaking the house. I think THAT is a skill worth bragging about!

Indeed my math skills ARE lousy! ...but I'm afraid I'm making an extra effort NOT to TOPP.
Just want to post when I have something to say and TOPP if it happens on it's own.
But congrats to you, Heidi! ...and I am VERY impressed with your napping. That is worth bragging about!

That TOPP surprised me, too. I hadn't looked at the count either.

Morning all!

I have learned something important this morning. If I forget to put the bins out and so put them on the other side of the road, the garbage truck WILL pick them up when it goes past - even though there is obviously not a house there! We are the second house on our road so once I hear the truck it's too late - or so I thought!

Now I just have to wonder how the neighbours feel about someone rushing across the road pushing a garbage bin in slippers with wild hair....

duh - too early - I think it was because I was on the laptop!

Becky – I think any pocket I tried to fix would end up sewn closed because I wouldn’t even know where to start! Bowing to the sewing goddess…..

Vici – hope you get your webcam thing resolved. I know how I would fix it – pass the buck to hubby!!

Mariana – by coincidink I saw a part of a cooking show yesterday and they cooked caramelised salmon. It looked good…. http://www.aliveandcooking.com.au/recipes/caramelisedsalmon.php

Liz, was it Port-au-Prince you worked? Thinking of the photo of you will the little girl. Did you see the story about the school collapse? http://www.news.com.au/story/0,27574,24644831-23109,00.html

Loved getting to see Broni (she put on a show for me in her dressing gown - sexy thing!)...of course I looked horrendous in my messy hair and unwashed face! Also, got a peek a Bella - she is adorable, but not too interested in me and my "cat voice"!

Mariana, I made some salmon fillets using a blackened seasoning mix I got at grocery, and then a tiny amount of a good oil that can get very hot, in a heavy pan, Really coat the fillets with the seasoning, both sides. Put just enough oil in to cover bottom of pan, not deep . put fish into the hot fry pan, about 2 minutes on a side
they were most tasty! OR you can actually blacken them outside on the grill where all the smoke can get out, but same flavor and inside using the sautee in oil method.

SUZY, you were also right the first time, you did get kicked off because you were on the internet hehehe, could not happen any other way without being painful. Love your word pictures too, so nice. and no need for apology, we knew something had happened. You have lovely manners, too nice to do that.

Mariana, I typed out that salmon information before lunch, guess I got distracted. but it is here now!

VICI has a new toy. You remember how she was with her first interent toy, the smilies and avatars?? Need I say more? Hope you get all the bugs out of the camera program fore you go to SF sweetie. That, or plan on taking a teenager with you!

BRONI, Vici does not have an accent, and I talked to her first so I should know!

Ta muchly Vici. I think I will have to look into Skype now so I can see people in their dressing gowns!!

MizT, I'm all cleaned up now and have retrieved my bin from the other side of the road! I decided it would be a good idea to not look quite as wild on the return trip - might inspire the neighbours to put their houses up for sale!

And now I'm off to sign some papers, deliver hubby's phone to him (left at home and not the first time!) and to buy some things to fill the cupboards....

I will be back later!

Good afternoon all. Looking back at yesterday's conversation, I have some news although it does not affect me personally. At the high school that my middle school feeds into, a 15 year old girl was shot by a classmate. They had some sort of dispute. The girl died of her wounds and the shooter, also a girl is cooperating with police. It makes me think of what could have happened if other students or teachers were nearby. I don't want to depress everybody, but I know I can share here and my friends will always make me feel better. I don't know either girl, but it could have been one of my former students.

Oh Tami... how horrible. I thought schools in the US all had security procedures to prevent guns from being brought into schools. And what about the parents who allowed their child access to a gun? And did not teach her that this was wrong?

Sometime while I slept, the jack hammers stopped. They're now getting on with the job. They PROMISE that they'll finish tonight, even if they have to work until 10 pm. The jack hammering took longer than expected because the foundation was over 10 inches thick. The test dig, to estimate the difficulty, was at the only thin spot in the foundation at ~8 inches.

Ahhh, TAMI, big hugs for you my dear. I understand what something like that can do to your thinking, all the "what if's". Hug your boys an extra time tonight and say thank you to whomever you thank, that they are safe and with you. I wonder what was so important to these girls that they would shoot over it?

Heidi, unfortunately security systems and procedures are not fool proof. That is evidenced by all security procedures having a drill , instructions, of what to do IF a shooter gets inside. The security procedures are a deterrent, and catch some, they are not total protection. This is so very sad.

Finally got to this page, so caught up for now! G'Day, SA6ers!

Heidi, I hope your tummy is better! It's great that you could nap amid jackhammer noise! Never did figure out how my hubby got holes in his pockets, but not so much lately. Can't imagine trying to repair a shredded pocket in a winter coat! You're amazing!

Hi, Vibrant Vici! I hope you get everything done that needs to be done before you go to SF, especially your webcam. Please give everyone there hugs from all of us. And give an especially big hug to Mamacita.

Hi, Suzy! The mental picture of you running your garbage bin to the other side of the road is terrific - made even better because I've done the same thing myself. Your tax return sounds encouraging!

Hi, Broni! I hope all is well with D & D and hope you have internet today at krow!

Hi, Tami the T! What awful news from that High School! I haven't had the radio on in the background today, so hadn't heard. What makes children and adults think that the way to solve a problem is with a gun? Has no one ever told them (and practiced how it works) to ,"Use your words."?

OK, grammarians, how does one show that a statement is part of a question without making the statement into a question? I hope that makes sense.

Not ALL high schools in the US have metal detectors to find guns being brought in. Even so, I don't think they're foolproof.

Tami, thank goodness neither student has been one of your students, but it is still so hard to deal with and understand. Sudoku Hugs (((((Tami))))) for you and your family, as they will undoubtedly also feel your pain!

Heidi - sounds like you have a good foundation!
Tami - that kind of news always shocks me. I would have never expected anything like that when I went to high school (yeah, yeah, I know...it was AGES ago). We had riots several years at our school, but no weapons were around.
I don't think anyone would have considered it back then. Here's a hug for you

Hi, MizT! How are you feeling today?

While I could never profess to be an excellent parent, I certainly tried to do my best. I also had the advantage of having good parents as role models and having an education beyond the high school level. Unfortunately, MANY people who have children have not had the same opportunities, so calling them parents or assuming the have parenting skills is inaccurate.
