Sometimes the most important thing in a whole day is the rest we take between two deep breaths.

Didn't make it to the dentist's. I found out the night before that my driver's license has been suspended, and I have no idea why. I was not warned or notified about it, either. What happened is that my friend Debbie and I co-own her car. She sent her son out in it to run some errands, and he was pulled over by the State Police. They asked him '' Do you know this car is owned by someone with a suspended license?'' He told them that his mother did NOT have a suspended license, and they said, no, the person with the suspended license is Heidi *****. After he got home, Debbie called me and told me about it. So now I have to figure out what happened and try to straighten it out. I didn't go to the dentist's because I'd have to be driving through the same place where Debbie's son got pulled over.
On the good side of the news, I finally got down to 200 lbs! That's the level where I promised myself that i could start riding again. Unfortunately, it's supposed to rain on and off every day for at least the next week.

That sounds like a bit of a mystery Heidi - hope nothing too expensive. The one thing that gives me the terrors - the dentist.
Brother still in hospital - not coping very well. Had a fall and knocked himself out also so looks like a while before he is able to go to rehab.
Hoping to get to the beach for a 'look' this weekend - leg still not healed but getting better. Just be wonderful to get away for a while - so many things to be done around the house. Back deck needs replacing - we were quoted $22,000 - so don't know what to do as we don't have that kind of money spare. Think maybe my sons will tear it down and we have a builder to do the frame-work. Then we can take our time to do the flooring - so expensive. No 2 son home today removing a Jasmine creeper that has invaded his bedroom around the windows - pool sprung a leak and flooded neighbours yard - now have to replace some of their garden - Pool needs to be removed - just a mosquito palace now. And so it goes on.

Wow, Heidi! I have never heard of someone's license being secretly suspended. I would think that any offense warranting suspension would involve the police having face-to-face meeting with the 'offender.' Seems kind of 'sketchy.' I hope you can get things sorted out. At least it gave you a temporary reprieve from the dental appointment.
DOrA, I hope you accomplished a lot of 'important things' today. Maybe tomorrow can be a little more relaxed.
Hi, Midge. It seems like you have had a rough week or two with all that is going on. I hope your brother didn't have any other injuries than knocking himself out when he fell. I hope he will soon be better and on the way out of the hospital to rehab.
Crossing fingers that you can get to the beach for that change of scenery, Midge! Good news that your leg is getting better. I hope it will heal relatively quickly now!
Your idea for replacing your back deck seems more reasonable than the quote you received. I suspect your sons are fairly handy. Certainly the demolition is a lot of work, but may not need as skilled labor as constructing the frame-work for a replacement deck. After the framework is in place, you're right that they can probably handle the flooring over time.
How awful that the pool's leak flooded the neighbor's yard, which will require replacing some of their garden. It certainly seems like an awful lot of expensive work has hit in a short period of time. Good luck with all that needs to be done!

A little update on Colin.
He had a CT scan earlier this week and today got the results. All markers are clear. It's not yet a clean bill of health, that may come in 6 months after several more tests, but it is a relief nevertheless for us both.
Sorry I haven't been here for a while, I have been finishing up my life story and will be giving my kids copies on the weekend. 49 pages
From here on they can tell their story.

I read everything and have now forgotten most of it.
Heidi - I hope it's a simple solution as to whay your licence is suspended. I just renewed mine last week for another 5 years. After that I'll have to renew it yearly and have a medical certificate to do so. I'll be 77 by then.
Julie, Col is working because he has no sick days left. He does have some annual leave but if he uses that up we won't get out much needed holiday later in the year.
Midge, I hope you've heard from your son and that your brother's health is improving.

We have two very well known Chinese areas here - Box Hill and Glen Waverley - there is no-one around. They have virtually shutdown. My daughter is being kept busy testing for the virus - a lot of international travellers because of the CNY. It is affecting business - the shipping lines from Mainland China have been stopped until Feb 9. Upset customers I can do without. They have to be more tolerant.
Heidi - hope you got your licence sorted out. What a change you have made to your life since IH - you are amazing. Hope you enjoy your rides and your back is o.k.
DorA - also hope your brother arrives home safely.
Julie, my brother has always been a very fit person (phys ed teacher, football player etc) and his world has suddenly come in on him - diabetes 2, severe cirrhosis, and had toe removed with gangrene. Has never had to cope when life gets ordinary so he is finding it hard-going.
Quick call from son a week ago - he is in Seoul and thinking of going to Jejus island. I wish he would come home. News had it that 15500 people from Wuhan had gone to Sth Korea and Japan before govt. lockdown.

Cyn, that's wonderful news about Col's CT scan! Here's hoping further tests over the next 6 months corroborate the all-clear!
Congratulations on finishing your life story, Cyn! Were your kids aware that you were writing it? That is an amazing accomplishment!
So, there's an incentive for Col to keep working! I hope he can stay healthy and working so he'll have his annual leave available for later and you can both enjoy a wonderful, relaxing, and much-deserved holiday later in the year!
DOrA, I hope your brother has been able to remain free of the coronavirus. Has he been in the area of Wuhan? It's such a huge country that I hope he has been able to avoid exposure! We read today about a cruise ship in Italy with 6,000 passengers in quarantine. THAT would be awful! The husband of the one patient in Illinois has now been diagnosed with the coronavirus, the first instance of patient to patient transmission in the U.S. The wife didn't exhibit symptoms until after she had been home for over a week, I think. I hope things go well when your brother returns.
Midge, I'm sure your daughter is taking every precaution!. I hope she remains free of the coronavirus while doing all the testing. Thinking of your brother and sending healing energy and positive thoughts. It's no wonder that it's hard to deal with what he's facing after many years of extreme good health! I hope the worst has passed for him!
Midge, I hope your son decides to return home sooner, rather than later, and hope he has been able to avoid exposure to the coronavirus while in South Korea!

My brother was in the northeast part of China. The latest news is that CV has spread to the whole of China. Hopefully, he didn't pick it up there and doesn't get it from another traveler on the way home. His route is through Japan, so he will miss Beijing. That's a good thing. He is returning to the U.S. for work. His wife is remaining with her family in China. I'm concerned...

My birthday is coming up soon.... so for a birthday present to myself I bought a new buggy. New for me, that is. It's a super lightweight buggy with 4 bicycle wheels and a lightweight frame, with a big, comfortable leather seat. I'm picking it up tomorrow. It's just under 2 hours drive each way, but on back roads where I'm not likely to see any police. I've already worked out my route. I'll post a picture.

I took Candy in to the Vet Clinic this morning. She had a nasty sore on her head, and I was worried that it might be sarcoptic mange. Fortunately, it's just a hot spot that she scratched open. She's now on antibiotics and prednisone. We were all surprised at how much she weighs. When I got her, she weighed 41 lbs/ 18.6 kg, and the folks at the shelter were convinced that she wouldn't get much bigger. I looked at her feet and told them that she'd get MUCH bigger. She just turned a year old, and already weighs 76 lbs/ 34.5 kg!

DOrA, crossing fingers that your brother hasn't been exposed to the coronavirus and won't be exposed on his way home. There are at least 4 U.S. airports that are cracking down on people arriving. I don't know if it's just a screening, or if it's a full-blown quarantine. Will he be located anywhere near you for his new job? I can understand that his wife would want to stay in China with her family, at least for the time being.
Heidi, good for you for deciding to buy yourself a birthday present! Drive very carefully when you pick up the buggy!
Candy is obviously doing well in your home. Do you expect that she hasn't reached full size? I hope the sore on her head will heal quickly!

Midge, glad you heard from your son. Bit of a worry that he's heading toward China bit hopefully all will be well in Korea.
DorA, glad your brother got back into the US.
As things get worse with this Corona Virus, restrictions get worse.
Australia is collecting/rescuing those citizens stranded in China but putting them in an offshore detention centre with medical help until the quarantine period is over. I believe also that or government is charging them an arm and a leg for this. Nothing humanitarian about it all.

How's this for a calendrical trifecta: Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday. And it's Groundhog Day. And it's a rare eight-digit palindrome when written as 02/02/2020 — the only one of its kind this century.
A palindrome, as you might know, is a sequence that reads the same forward as it does More...
backward.
Sunday's palindrome unusually cross-cultural. It's written as a palindrome 'whether you're in Europe, Asia, America — it happens on the same calendar day, which is February the 2nd'. Sunday is also the 33rd day of the year, which is followed by 333 more days.

DOrA, I'm glad your brother has arrived safely and has so far passed screenings. I hope he has successfully avoided the virus! I read that there is a 14-day incubation period. In some areas, medical personnel check in daily during that period. With such a distance between you, I'm guessing it may be a while before you see him.
Wow, CynB, it's interesting how your government is dealing with people possibly exposed to the coronavirus. I guess that limits the number of people who can be exposed inadvertently. It's amazing that there is a facility that can be used in this way. I wonder what will happen to people who are unable to pay. I hope there aren't too many families who are in the position to be placed at the center. I can't imagine having to pay for more than 1 person.
I like your heart avatar, Cyn! It's hard to imagine that it's nearly 2 years since Col's accident. I hope his surgery can be scheduled soon so he can get this all behind me and move on to the next phase of his life!
DOrA, thank you for sharing the unusual events coming together tomorrow, Feb. 2. It's also my sister-in-law's birthday. I hope you don't mind if I share the information with her.
Heidi, I'm glad you were able to get the buggy home without any difficulties. The weather predicted for tomorrow sounds wonderful for trying it out! Have fun and drive carefully!

The best laid plans, and all that. I went out to the barn to hitch Whimsey up to the new buggy (the shafts DO fit her, but they won't fit Pandora) and go for a short drive. She's in season and is in a foul mood. Did NOT want to cooperate. So I hitched her up anyways, and we just stood there while she fretted, tossed and pranced around. She got herself into a soaking wet snit without going anywhere. I kept her there until she finally stopped misbehaving, then I unhitched her, gave her a brushing, and turned her back out into the pasture. She needed to learn that throwing a tantrum won't get her what she wants. She'll be out of heat in a few days, and then we'll try again. Normally she's a quiet, well behaved lady and a perfect driving horse.
The shafts on the buggy are ''cob'' sized. That's for small horses or large ponies. I can get full sized horse shafts that'll fit both Whimsey and Pandora, but I'll have to have them shipped to me for a total cost of $500.oo. Or I can just use the buggy for Whimsey.

Julie, the reason our government has these offshore facilities is that they were where the 'boat people' were taken and never allowed on Australian soil. And never treated humanely. These CV people will get the medical and humane treatment denied to refugees. They've all been sent back to where they came from to face the consequences while Australia looks the other way. The place is named Christmas Island. A complete misnomer. Nothing merry ever happens there.

Everybody is stocked up on food and water and all feed bins are full. Mike is aware that I'm having the epidural tomorrow and will feed the calves for the next 3 days for me. All of the horse stalls are clean and filled with feed already. The alpaca pens are clean and their hay feeders and water buckets are full. I put out 20 lb of feed for the dogs a few minutes ago. I set the trash out by the road for Wednesdy morning pick up. Nothing else requires lifting more than 5 lbs at a time. I'm ready for tomorrow.

Heidi, you are really and truly prepared for the epidural. I also hope it's a doozy! Is there any way to predict whether the injection will be helpful - or anything you can do to encourage or ensure that it will help?
CynB, the story/saga of Christmas Island is as sad as what our country is doing to the hopeful immigrants and their children. Heidi, you're right about man's inhumanity to man. Unfortunately in this country things seem to be getting worse and fueled by the example of so many in Washington.
Hooray for the beautiful red bull calf that Mike's cow gave birth to! I hope you're right and there might be a couple more.
