I'm on pins and needles, waiting to hear how Col's long awaited surgery went. My fingers are crossed that everything went without a hitch. and Col!!!

I didn't get much sleep last night. We weaned 3 calves yesterday, and they and their mothers spent the night bawling their heads off as close to my windows as they could get. It usually takes 3 days and nights before they stop bawling.

It was a long day and we left without much information last night, but today......
Doctor said it all went well. They got the lens in without needing to do stitches, which was the worry that the stitches could come loose and cause bleeding in the future. The eyesight will return gradually over the next few days and he expects him to get fairly good vision. WooHoo!!!
Going to pick him up in an hour or so.

Happy Anniversary, CynB and Col! Happy day that Col is getting his lens replacement! Here's hoping all went exceptionally well!

Heidi, I'm not surprised that you can't sleep. No air conditioning and no ceiling fan! I can't imagine how much worse it would be if you hadn't convinced the doctor that you needed the epidural! I would think the dogs might get uncomfortably warm all cuddled together with each other and you.

Heidi, I hope everything went well with working the cattle with Mike! I'm also hoping it was at least a bit cooler today! I'm thinking cooling thoughts for you!

What a wonderful TOPP, CynB!

CynB, that is FANTASTIC news, post-op! I hope you were able to get Col home and resting comfortably! I'm guessing there will be a lot of eye drops in the coming days, but it's a small price to pay. It's wonderful that the doctor feels Col will get fairly good vision! Spectacular!

Thinking of everyone and sending healing energy (especially for Col), positive thoughts, gentle {{{{{HUGS}}}}}}, prayers, and ! Take care, Everyone, and stay safe and healthy!

The A/C repairman is here!!!! This is a major job, and he said that it will take almost all day. But I will have working A/C by this evening!!! I'm THRILLED! Now if only my lawn mower would come home.
The last cow looks like she should calve later today or tomorrow. I would love a another heifer, but I could also use the income from a steer sale. So I'm just hoping for a healthy calf. The heifer born a couple of days ago is a black one (Mike's bull is black but carries the red gene) and this last calf can be either color.

Glad to hear that your aircon is being fixed, Heidi. Should be done by now, hope you had a nice cool comfortable night.
Col is doing fine. And yes, Julie, he has 4 different lots of eye drops, one for pressure control which stings so much, an antibiotic, a steroid and Atropine to dilate the pupil. Three of them are done 4 times a day and one twice. Since they say to leave 5 minutes between each drop, so it is a long process to do them all. He was doing his own drops before this but I do them until he feels ready. His eye looks bloody and angry but that will clear. The patch comes off today and then he wears just the clear plastic guard over the eye for a while. He has 4 weeks off to recuperate and goes back to see the Doctor next Thursday.

We were both so exhausted when we got home yesterday that we had lunch, sat in front of the TV, and promptly fell asleep for at least 2 hours. Then we ordered takeaway from our local restaurant for dinner. Close as we could get to an anniversary dinner this year. My son, Emily and her boyfriend came over for a visit, that was nice, particularly since we hadn't met the boyfriend, hadn't known what to think about him but he seemed nice, friendly, good-humoured and keen on Em. Maddy and Lachlan are coming today. So Col has plenty to cheer him up while he recuperates.

I think Col getting some sight back in his eye after that horrific accident is a wonderful anniversary present to you both.

After all Emily has been thru' with her mother, she deserves a boyfriend who cares about her. I hope he proves to be as nice as he seems.

Such wonderful news that Col is doing fine! I'm glad Col lets you help with all of his drops; that's a lot to keep track of, but a small bit of work to make sure the operation is successful! If you're like us, it helps to set alarms on our cell phones to keep track of everything! I imagine he'll feel better to have the patch off, but wearing the clear plastic guard certainly helps avoid any accidental bumps. I hope his return next Thursday to see the doctor goes exceptionally well!

I'm not surprised that you were both exhausted when you got home from the hospital; I suspect it was a combination of physical tiredness and emotional exhaustion. Lunch and a nap are likely what the doctor would have suggested. Takeaway dinner seems like such a good idea, followed by a visit from Emily, her boyfriend, and your son! It was nice that you were able to meet Emily's boyfriend. A visit from Maddy and Lachlan should further cheer up Col and help pass the time between eye drops!

Heidi, I'm so glad you got your air conditioner fixed today! You were probably hot & tired after working the animals. I hope you have a delightful and comfortable night's sleep!

Thinking of everyone and sending , {{{{{HUGS}}}}}}, healing energy, positive thoughts, and prayers for all! Good Night, Everyone!

Good news yesterday. After I removed Col's eye patch, administered all his drops and we cleaned the area around his eye, he had a try at covering his other eye and trying to see. Yes!! He saw me waving from a distance of about 2 metres and the window behind me. Not clear and dull colours but he saw it! Later with the grandies here he had more success. This is what he has wanted for 2.5 years.
So happy!

Things in the US are about to get worse. This morning, at 3:30 AM, a black man in Atlanta had been drinking, and instead of trying to drive home drunk, he decided to sleep it off in his car. A police officer approached him while asleep in his car, gave him a breathilizer test to prove he was drunk, then tried to arrest him. After all the recent police violence, the man panicked. So the officer hit him with the taser.... scaring him even more. The man lost it and in a blind panic tried to take the taser away from the officer. So the officer shot and killed him. He was unarmed. There is no reason why a man should have been killed for sleeping it off peacefully in his car. I am horrified at all of the excessive violence and force being used by police against citizens that they have sworn to serve and protect. The protesting is going to get much worse. I no longer believe that there are only a few bad apples. I now suspect that most police are bad apples, and the good ones are few and far between.

And yes, the police officer and his partner were white.
All a decent person should have done in that situation was, instead of trying to arrest the man, who had committed no crime, they had politely asked if they could call someone to come, pick him up, and take him home. Show some respect to a citizen they were to protect and serve. I have now watched 2 videos of the incident. Definitely excessive force. The public AND THE MAYOR are demanding that the officers involved be fired. The police chief has already resigned over it. But even charging the officers with murder won't be enough any more. The police brutality towards people of color has to stop. Firing them after they murder isn't going to bring their victims back to life.

MizT is fine and posting on FB. I saw a post from her in the past few days.
I think her computer died and she does everything on her tablet. She says she can't access this site, but my theory s that she's trying to use Safari instead of Google. I can access this site through Google on my iPad. I'll tell her you've been trying to contact her, Heidi.

Col's vision is still as it was days ago. We expected it to improve faster than this, so it's a bit of a worry. He's goes back to the surgeon on Thursday, so we'll see what he says. Hopefully it will improve. Haven't told anyone else that yet.

I use Safari, not Google to access this site, and always have.

Give it time, CynB. It's still healing. Besides, you never expected his full vision to be restored in that eye. Only partial.... which is a LOT better than he had.

Hi, Everyone!

Yes, it's a pain whenever anyone of us loses a post! Thanks for understanding, DOrA!

Heidi, congratulations on the arrival of a black bull calf! I hope he'll bring a good price when he's old enough to be sold.

Heidi, Safari is in use on our computer and has worked well. Using a tablet may be the difference.

CynB, thanks for updating that MizT has been on Facebook. I can understand that you and Col are discouraged the things aren't improving as quickly as you had hoped. I hope you'll hear encouraging words from the doctor at Col's next appointment on Thursday!

DOrA, I like the quote about the dog! It's so true!

Update on Colin,( and hopefully the last until we can say this is all over.) Visit to the surgeon today was excellent. All is good with the eye, he is happy with everything. He even did a little laser surgery while we were there to tidy up. He says that Col's vision is blurry because after 2.5 years the brain has to retrain itself to use the eye. It will come good. He says everything inside the eye looks great. Big relief. He's off work until 6th July. He's a happy man today!

That is absolutely WONDERFUL news, CynB! And it seems logical that Col's brain needs to retrain itself to use the information provided by his eye. So, it's a matter of waiting and allowing his brain and eye to become reacquainted with each other. Will he ultimately need to do some eye exercises, as one would do physical therapy to retrain other body parts? It must be such a relief for both of you!

Thinking of everyone and sending positive thoughts, healing energy, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, prayers, and ! Sleep well; stay safe; and enjoy the coming weekend!

Great news, CynB!!! It sounds like Col is having the best results possible! he deserves it, after all he's been through.

I'm supposed to be getting my lawn mower back today!!! The spindle for the mower blades had broken, and they had to order a new one. It came in yesterday.

We had some excitement with cattle yesterday. I went out to feed Mike's weanlings, and was surprised to see only 2 in the pen instead of 3. I looked around and couldn't find the 3rd one, so I let Mike know. We searched around and he found a tiny hole in the fence that I'd never noticed (made by I ex-H, it seems), and Mike's young bull had gone thru' it somehow, and was off on I ex-H's property. Fortunately, I had gotten him used to feed in a bucket, and when Mile walked out there rattling a bucket, the young bull came running. He's back in with his brothers now, and the fence is fixed.

Wonderful news CynB. After so long you both must be relieved.
DorA - love the dog quote - so true. If you lock your m-i-l and dog in a cupboard, who is happy when you finally open the door?
Bit of fun with the bull Heidi - do you think the hole in the fence was deliberate or just careless of ex? (Especially as it was hidden) Like your Queen pic too,
Julie hope all is well with you and hubby - you are so busy.
Best wishes to everyone

Heidi, here's hoping your lawn mower will be ready by tomorrow!

Good job catching the run-away bull! Do you suspect IH of purposely putting a hole in the fence, or think it was random? At least you and Mike were able to get it back home!

I'm about to fall asleep, so I'm off! Sending healing energy, prayers, positive thoughts, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and !
