I just saw Bob Newhart in an old episode of NCIS the other day. It seemed strange to see him in a serious role when he better known as a comedian. But he played the part well. A sign of a good actor I suppose.
Had my first Covid vaccine yesterday. No after effects at all so far. They had the procedure running well. When I got there i saw at least 20 people sitting around, but some were sitting out the 15 minute 'after-vax' period before leaving and they had 2 doctors working. My appointment was 11,45am, I was in and out by 11.50 and left at 12.05. I had the AstraZenica jab and don't get the second one for 12 weeks.

I went to Pain Management today. They had me get an EKG whole I was there. I was discussing the Covid shots with the doctor and she told me that the second shot can be really rough. She said I need to be prepared to be laid low for a few days afterwards. I get my second shot in 11 days.

It's warmed up so much now that I've turned off the heat lamp for the chicks. Progress!
Tomorrow's high is supposed to hit 80˚F / 27˚C. Hard to believe we had a hard freeze 5 nights ago.

Heidi - which one did you get? We are getting ours (Astra Zeneca) on Sat but mine may be delayed because of this new heart condition (congenital) that has surfaced. I hope not.
Great to see you back Julie - hope March is the only horrible month you have coz that has come and gone. How did hubby manage with you away? I am always glad when it has gone - my father and family members have all passed in this month yet April Fools Day was not good either - learnt zombie meds are the choice for this new condition yecch!! Just something else to get my head around.
Camping season is all but over for now and the boys will bring it back to be resealed and my daughter and I will be making new curtains and seat covers - an old van but should spruce up a bit. She doesn't know it yet so it will be a surprise - trying to teach her to sew and knit has been a bit challenging.

Midge, I got the AstraZenica jab and I was fine on the day I got it, but yesterday I felt like I had been hit by a bus - I got a weird headache, felt sick and sore all over and was so tired. I feel fine this morning - so far.

CynB hope you don't get any more reaction. The news at the moment is against the Astrazeneca (which is the only one we have here at the moment) but I figure i'm down the tube if I get covid so not much choice. Moderna is supposed to cover the UK and California strain but has a few more side-effects than Pfizer. Hubby is pathetic about injections (just as well he didn't have dialysis) and I am reminding him he is getting it on Saturday - small joys,

I have been fine still after the vaccine except for that one day. They say the second one is worse than the first. Not looking forward to that. But not worried about the clotting, the instances of it are very low and usually on people with underlying blood or clotting problems. So Midge, would that include you?
We had one person here yesterday who had the Pfizer vaccine 3 weeks ago, she was sent to a different clininc for her second jab and they gave her AstraZenica. Last I heard she was taken to hospital by ambulance. Haven't heard any more, hope she's okay. But, judging by the relatives on TV, I suspect it could be an attempt at their 15 minutes of fame.

I'm due to get my second Moderna shot on the 17th. I'll be sure to report any side effects or problems.

Just a regular day on the farm. Occational light rain showers. I did my feeding and watering chores, and did a little work with the chainsaw removing dead branches from trees. I'm delighted at how fast the chicks are growing.

In the past week, the price of the cheap cockatiel food on eBay and Amazon tripled, so I can no longer afford to buy it for my cockatiels and lovebirds. The expensive, top-of-the-line food is cheaper than it, and I only buy that as an occational treat. So today I went to the feed store (I had to go anyway for senior horse feed) and bought large amounts of the various seeds and fruits I've seen in the mixes. I'm gonna try mixing my own to save a little money. But I'm worried that it might not be properly balanced for the birds. I think my mix has too much fat from nuts and safflower, and not enough millet. I'm hoping the various eBay and Amazon sellers realize that they've lost sales from such a massive price hike (from $23 per 25 lbs to $66 per 25 lbs.), and drop their prices again.

Heidi, thanks for sharing Bob Newhart's quote.

We have heard that it's not uncommon to have a reaction to the second Covid vaccine. I really can't say I noticed anything in particular. Hubby had a sore arm and kind of felt 'flu-ish' for a day or so.

I'm about to turn into a pumpkin, so will say Good Night and hope to get back again tomorrow. {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to All!

Good to see you back Julie.
That price hike on bird seed is disgusting - is the seed imported? We are now paying triple for a 20' container to import into Australia (if it is from China).
Had Astra on Sat - no effect - expected that as I am immune-suppressed and the latest idea is that people with good immune systems get more reactions. Had to show recommendation from vascular surgeon to get it - they were going to put me in the too-hard basket and kept asking if I accepted the risks - the fact I turned up for it should have been enough!
Weather has been appalling lately - we actually had snow yesterday morning and lots of hail and rain after.
Has Col decided about the new treatment for his eye CynB?
2 sons went and bought a 2nd hand shed for our docs and samples from the office - now they have heaps of pieces in the backyard trying to figure out where everything goes. Should take a video .... are most men the same? They asked me to keep hubby inside as he is useless with things like this.111

Another day without much getting done. Using a walker or wheelchair really slows progress. I'm definitely making an effort to monitor how I feel and when I need to slow down. At this rate, it's going to take a long time to get caught up around the house, with laundry, etc.

Midge, I'm glad you were able to get your Covid vaccine. I hope it goes as well for you when you get the second 'half.'

I'm off to bed. Sending positive thoughts to everyone!

It's time for the ''fun'' stuff. My dogs have been scratching a lot, and I started getting itchy, too. I just had Mike the Vet check them out. They all have sarcoptic mange. It seems that Dawn brought it onto the property. She even gave it to me!!! I'm gonna have to call my GP in the morning and have them send me the mange treatment for people.

Heidi - I didn't know people could get mange!
Julie - just take it easy, you're used to being very busy, If you can't get things done around the house, leave them unless they are absolutely necessary.
Midge - glad you got the vaccine and with no side effects. Interesting that people with good immune systems get more side-effects. I must have a good immune system.
Your question about Col and his eye - the reports are in from his opthalmologist and the independent guy. Both agree that the eye isn't yet stable so both recommend the eye injections to stabilise the eye every month for 3 months at least. So on we go - first injection on April 27th.

Oh, my, Heidi! I also didn't know people could get mange. I hope this isn't going to be a long term treatment - just something 'short and sweet' so you and all of the dogs recover quickly!

Midge, good luck to your sons putting the shed together!

CynB, i think the positive thing is that both Col's ophthalmologist AND the independent guy agree that his eye isn't yet stable and both agree that injections will help. Seems like the best approach is to stay the course and follow it through to completion. Good luck to Col with the first injection!

DOrA, I hope all's well with you and the hound! Has spring-like weather found its way to you?

It's time to hit the hay, so I'll say Good Night to Everyone from here. Sending {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, healing energy, positive thoughts, and

Mike told me that Sarcoptic mange is highly contagious, and people CAN get it. He told me that he's had it, too. The treatment has gotten fairly simple in recent years, fortunately. For dogs it's pills, 2 doses a month apart. For people it's special shampoos and body lotions. It used to be special shampoos and dips for dogs. That would have destroyed my back, especially with Timmy, Reeses and Spike.

OK...The dogs have been treated and I've changed the sheets and blankets, replaced some throw rugs and sprayed down all the bedding and areas where the dogs have access. All that's left is to treat ME, and the pharmacy was out of stock. My meds are on back order.

Thanks for the good wishes Julie - boys got half the shed up before dark, high winds during the night and we could hear bang crash - all buckled and blown down the back. Buyers remorse - they bought the shed dismantled. Out to get a new one today. Can't wait - will be lovely to have my lounge and family room back again.
Builders coming soon today to finally work out a time schedule to replace the top balcony that was damaged in storms last August and the kitchen ceiling. We already look like Steptoe & Son with only 2/3 of the retaining walls done so more rubble around the place won't hurt.:) It gets overwhelming at times. Caravan coming home next week too and has to be emptied and go for repairs. Don't know where that stuff will go.
That mange sounds awful - hope it doesn't itch too much. A sleeping bag might help until you get your treatment - how long is the back order?
Julie - take your time building up your strength again - it must be frustrating but to hurry it may end up causing other problems. Hope hubby is keeping well.
DorA - hope you are keeping safe and well and away from covid. We hear it is spiking again in the US, No doubt it will start again here in Victoria with international travel opening up. Our state govt. is useless - the result of our royal commission was a 'don't know' and a 'can't remember' when questioned about how covid was spread so easily into the community from quarantine.
CynB - over two years and his eye is still not stable - feel sorry for Col, it is so disappointing. At least there is treatment for him and he is not in the too hard basket.

Midge, the strong winds were poorly timed. So sorry about the shed your boys were in the process of assembling!

CynB, I hope your and Col's patience will be well rewarded and his vision will improve (and soon)!

Hi, Everyone! I hope all's well!

DOrA, it's good to see a post from you. I'm glad you and the hound are enjoying some spring weather! The good news is that you're able to get some spring chores done. I'm sorry that those chores are taking a toll on your body! Sending healing energy and positive thoughts your way! Remember - what doesn't get done one day will wait for you for another day. Don't be too hard on yourself and give yourself time to rest and recuperate between chores. We care.

Heidi, I'm so glad the pharmacy was able to get you the stuff you needed for the mange. I hope it clears everything up quickly and eliminates the itching! It's good to know that the MRI was so easy that you could catch a quick cat nap during it! Sounds like the perfect medical test!

Thinking of everyone and sending {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, healing energy, , positive thoughts, and prayers for all! Take care and stay safe!

The hardest part, for me, of an MRI, is staying awake. After being told not to move, during the procedure, I had to fight to stay awake. Even so, at the end of both of the two, I've had I was starting to ''nod off''...

Got the shot a little after noon. So far, so good. They told me that it usually takes about 8 hours before any side effects, like the usual mild flu'-like symptoms, show up. They told me that the flu'-like symptoms, like headache and mild fever, usually clear up after 24 hours.

We don't yet have the Moderna shot here. The Government is still having trouble sourcing vaccines. We do have the Pfizer and Astrazenica vaccines.
They are now only giving the Astra to people over 50 because of blood-clotting problems with younger people - and then only the most minute percentage, but that's enough for many people to cancel their appointments. Even my husband, who is eligible to get the shot by being a cancer/chemo survivor won't go. 'I want to wait and see', he says.
I decided to accept the very small risk and have the shot.

I've pretty much forgotten about the slight soreness and swelling in the left arm from the COVID-19 shot..... because one of my horses decided to bite me HARD in the right arm while I was grooming her today. I've had Sadie for over 10 years, and this was the first time she's pulled this stunt. The lump on the arm is the size of a half of an orange, discolored and VERY painful. Once I get the full use back in the arm, she's coming out of retirement and is going to have to work around here.

Oh yeah.... a rumor may have gotten started last night. Mike the Vet's truck broke down here yesterday afternoon.... and stayed parked in front of my house overnight. I'm wondering how many neighbors are going to think he spent the night. There has already been some gossip about how frequently it's seen here. He's just a friend, but I find this amusing. I've heard that my idiot ex has noted it's presence. Mike the Vet is younger than me, and easy on the eyes.

Haha - so do I Heidi - interesting to see who the sticky beaks are.
Daughter had her second Pfizer yesterday and is quite ill today. Severe headache and body aches - when she went in for it she already had a headache and they gave her an ECG, sugar and BP test before they would do it. My sons have all opted to wait for the Pfizer but unfortunately it will be at least October before it is available. They are all under 50 but eligible for it before this restriction anyway.
CynB - hope you can talk Col into having astra - I do not like the idea of travel opening up again and no protection - too many mutant strains already. Also down here with our winter it could get nasty. The rare blood clotting problem is mainly associated with very high immune systems and in women too (especially if they have had children). I figure so many millions have already had the injection, why should it be so different for us.
Hope the treqtment works for the mange Heidi - sounds uncomfortable.

I had no side effects from the second Moderna shot, except a slight soreness and swelling at the injection site.

I believe everybody needs to get the shots... no matter the brand. Some protection is better than none, and with continued mask use and some social distancing, this could break the high levels of transmission. But nothing will improve unless everybody is on the same page and understands the severity of the pandemic.
