We are going out for dinner tonight - a relatively rare event these days! Even after 8 years back home I can't quite feel comfortable paying $20-$30 for a main meal that would have cost me less than half that in CA....

Once again my page has refreshed so slowly I not only missed out on a TOPP, I missed saying goodbye!

Suzy, I imagine that there has been enough inflation here and in California in eight years that the prices of the meals are similar. Enjoy your dinner.

Ruby, I'd agree except 8 years ago in Oz the prices were about the same as they are now. I used to buy Chicken Chimichangas (sp?) for $6.95 in CA. Here they were half the size and $19 - both in 2000.

Gee it has been quiet here tonight.

And Sharon was not too good this morning but passed wind this afternoon so had her first meal, icecream and jelly and looked much better. Hopefully may get 'home' on Tuesday.

JUNE, good news from Sharon, I hope progress continues. Sending get well fairy dust to her.

Suzy, just why are dining out prices so high in OZ? I would be reluctant to go out also with those prices. we have a Mexican resturant in our little town, owned and run by Mexican brothers. This is thier third resturant in the general area, other little towns scattered about. The Prices are very reasonable, usually more food than I can eat served (I always ask for a take out box, or we wil oredr one entree and 2 plates) food is excelent, service also, with the hispanic waiters. Waiters keep changing. I think the owners continue to sponsor thier relatives from the "old country" to get them into the states legally. As soon as they can, turn them loose to find employment on thier own, and bring in another group. I have no problem with that, wish all our hispanic visitors would come legally. I also have learned although the wait staff speak Spanish amongst themselves, they all can speak English, and they do get better at it as they continue to work at the resturant. that gives them a real advantage in the work force here, and I am proud to see they learn,

Notice to all SA5ers: I will be calling Al on Tuesday and insisting he tell me more than "she's fine"...so I will update you all on how Tricia is doing until she can pull herself up to the pooter.

No, no family visiting today, Our girls are scattered to the far ends of the USA, one in Connecticut for the NE corner, one way down in FL for the SE corner and one in southern CA for the west coast, so, they do not get home for birthdays. he will be getting phone calls today if he is lucky.

My sister is about an hour and half away, we do not visit for birthdays, other sister is in Atlanta, and same, His brother about 2 hours away. We chat with all of them and e-mails, but do not visit as often as we shold.

So the big party yesterday was his main celebration, that has become a tradition with his friend Ruben. The saturday closest to his wife's birthday is the big September BD party. Al loves it! So do I, I do not have to host a big party here for him.

Now, Vici, are you ging to let me manage a CP? Invite me for coffee, make me bring it, and then run away, fine friend you are!

I use to celebrate my b'day with 2 other friends in our area - one has moved away (back home to Colorado) - it was the best kind of celebration! We called ourselves the "3 amigos" and that was the name of our party.
