Thank you all so much for you support and words of wisdom as we wade through this difficult stage of our lives. I did a lot of venting here yesterday and, as usual, it was very therapeutic.
MIL is still in hospital and I hope will be until the weekend. We'll see. I agree with the comments supporting the reasons for her to stay in her own home. Two of my siblings orchestrated the selling up of my mothers unit and relocating her and she never ever quite got over the distress resulting from that trauma. It was a trauma for her to leave her home... she never wanted to live with any of us or be a burden on her children.
It seems to me that the advances in medicine has ended up with us having a lot more quantity of life without a lot of quality at the end. I certainly don't want to end up like my parents or inlaws. Mad old world where we don't let our pets suffer like this.
Must fly.... hospital to visit.

Re your comment about showing up online and not being here.... since I started doing the 16 x 16 the poor old pooter doesn't get tucked up into bed at night if I haven't finished!!! To say it takes me a while is putting it mildly. Must start logging out tho when I toodle off to bed.

The world was a different place back when they were born! Dad's mother was pregnant with him on the ship to Australia. Can you imagine being pregnant on a 6-8 week sea journey. They were more stoic than we are these days.

I liked that bit Bean said at the end of the post at the top of the page about the quality of our lives not being able to keep up with the quantity - very profound!

Yes Vici, I agree with what Bean said about quantity vs quality. What's the point of living to be 100 with no quality of life. My Mum is nearly 86, has had dementia for four years but is physically good for her age. Potentially she could live for years - in utter terrifying confusion!!

Guess what, I'm back, hubby is asleep in front of the TV. No rush to go out really so I'll leave him there for a while - this business sale has taken it's toll on him - very stressful.
