Woe is me! André, now I know the anguish you felt weeks back when your Electrolux died! My old reliable second fridge/freezer (an '89 Amana) has chilled its last Fosters and frozen its last pig's knuckle. Bought used three years ago for $50, I surely got my money's worth out of it, but nonetheless will miss the beast! Think kindly of your appliances, everyone, for you know not the day nor the hour.........

I'm off to Lowe's for a replacement.

I have a toaster oven that has been on it's last legs for months. As soon as I yell, ''That's it, you piece of junk! You're out of here!'', it starts working like a charm.
I think it's afraid of me

Kathy - Appliances can be temperamental, can't they? Unlike your toaster oven, there is no hope for my fridge, so I've already bought a new one - to be delivered in the morning. My computer, which is eight years old, has been very sluggish for the past several months, but I find that if I give the modem a good, swift kick after turning it on, it warms right up! Gives a whole new meaning to the term 'booting up'. (Then again, maybe that's how the early computers were started).

Morning all...

Hello Perthites,

Prior notice for the arrival of our most esteemed Jazzy wazzy from way over there, is coming over here…
So brekky it shall be at the CBH (Cottesloe Beach Hotel- obviously at Cott Beach, obviously a(n) hotel (but an old one)).
On Saturday, August 18th at 9.30am (to allow for a sleep-in).
Dresscode is dead cash (hard sounding ‘sh’) but tiara’s are compulsory...unless you’re a bloke – you’re exempt if you have a note from your mum/wife (or some lollies for me).
If you would like to join us please let me know on my page as I shall need numbers to confirm the booking.
Forewarning: this message will be posted several times over the next few weeks, if it gets really annoying – never mind.
Hope to see you there…x

Jane: I like your kick to the modem! Sometimes I feel like giving mine a kick! I actually used to work on one of the earliest computers. It was booted by entering the first instructions by hand into a front panel. Then those instructions told it to read a paper tape with more instructions until it finally knew where to access the operating system. It was truly a pain to boot up. We also had no such thing as a screen editor. If you made a mistake you couldn't backspace. You had to type in the backspace character. Only one line of type could be entered at a time. It was better than punch cards, however!

Jane it must be in the air--the passing of appliances this summer. In the past two months the fridge died, and 3 food processors. I accidently killed one but the others had endured a long long life.

Sung to the tune of Benny Havens, Oh. (Wearing of the Green)

Come fill your glasses fellows, and stand up in a row
To singing sentimentally, her fridge was next to go.
In the back room stands appliances all working hard you see,
But time will take its tole on them, their work is not for free.

Oh, Jane's fridge died today, oh Jane's fridge died today.
We're singing sentimentally for Janes' fridge, sad to say.

A mom concerned about her kindergarten son's safety walking to school but not wanting to embarrass him, asked a neighbor if she would follow him but not too close for him to notice. The neighbor Mrs. Goodnest said no problem since she needed to take her toddler Marcy for a walk. The next day Mrs. Goodnest and her girl Marcy followed the boys. After a week of being followed a friend asked Timmy if he noticed the lady following them. Timmy said yes. His friend asked if he knew her. Timmy said yes, she is Shirley Goodnest and her daughter Marcy. His friend asked why was she following them. Timmy answered; well every night my mom makes me say the 23rd psalm with my prayers. In the psalm it says, “Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the days of my life' so I'll just have to get used to it.

Lovely peaceful photo.
A very watery sun trying to shine outside so looks like more rain again today. I knew it would have to rain yesterday as I spent hours washing my car on Sunday afternoon.

2:19 Good Morning everyone. I forgot to say Happy Birthday to Paul when I woke up this morning (we were woken up by Elinor needing to have a major nappy change and I had to go and do my express thing and... and...) and only remembered an hour later - luckily he was still at home so I could say it to his face!

Thank you all for your kind condolences on the passing of my fridge. Although not so old as André's beloved Electrolux, it had served above and beyond the call of duty. Since it was our 'spare' fridge, it sat in the shed with nary a draft of air conditioning in the summer nor a warm waft of central heat in the winter. I only hope the replacement can stand up to the rigors of summer in Georgia. Today was the hottest day of the year here, and tomorrow will be even hotter: 99ºF with a heat index of WAY over 100! We are having a 'Thanksgiving in August' party tomorrow night since a turkey in the freezer was half thawed and we had to decide to either cook it or chuck it. We chose the former. We'll do it on the Weber - or barbie (sp?) as the Aussies would say.

Jeb, thanks for the lovely song. We'll sing it as we serve the turkey tomorrow night!

Second verse but a little bit worse.

In the garage there was pleasure found in Foster's row on row
And wine was chilled to toast good friends their friendship sure to grow.
But we'll sadly hang our heads low and stand up in a row,
and we'll sing our reminiscenses of Jane's Amana-Oh.

Of Jane's Amana-Oh, of Jane's Amana-Oh,
We'll sing our reminiscenses of Jane's Amana-Oh.
