Morning all - just dropping in quickly. Have had Hayley and Chloe overnight and am expecting Karin and her 2 any minute - then we'll wait for Col (the birthday boy) to get home from work - he started at 1 am so hopefully should be home soon. We'll all have lunch and then the rest of us will vacate the house so Col can sleep. We'll go to the shops or the park. Phew, once H & C are collected this afternoon, that's my baby sitting duties done for these holidays, I hope!!

Gail, how old are Punch and Judy? Gosh, we do love our animals - they are part of our family. I love their names.

I promise it wasn't me who broke the site, Julie.

There's a bit of a story about how they got their names Theresa, but as I am now running late (!) I won't go into it now. We can't be absolutely certain of their ages, but we have come to a sort of compromise according to the dates we lived at our previous house where we found them, and we think they are about 13 years old. Better go, have to shower and make myself presentable for the vet, then lunch after with a girlfriend. Bye for now :)

Hubby showed this to me, so thought I would share. (I'm going to submit it in pieces, because something in it is apparently getting me banned.)

I apologize to Theresa; she didn't break the site. I just keep getting banned for something in the post.

The following puts our world into a perspective more easily understood:

If we could shrink the earth's population to a village of precisely 100 people, with all the existing human ratios remaining the same, it would look something like the following:

57 Asians
21 Europeans
14 from the Western Hemisphere, both north and south
8 Africans,
52 would be female
48 would be male,
70 would be non-white
30 would be white,
70 would be non-Christian
30 would be Christian,
89 would be heter0s3xval
11 would be h0m0s3xval,
6 people would possess 59% of the entire world's wealth and
all 6 would be from the United States.
80 would live in substandard housing
70 would be unable to read
50 would suffer from malnutrition
1 would be near death
1 would be near birth
1 (yes, only 1) would have a college education
1 would own a computer
When one considers our world from such a compressed perspective, the need for acceptance, understanding and education becomes glaringly apparent.

The following is also something to ponder:
If you woke up this morning with more health than illness, you are more blessed than the million who will not survive this week.
If you have never experienced the danger of battle, the loneliness of imprisonment, the agony of torture, or the pangs of starvation, you are ahead of 500 million people in the world.
If you can attend a church meeting without fear of harassment, arrest, torture, or death, you are more blessed than three billion people in the world.
If you have food in the refrigerator, clothes on your back, a roof overhead and a place to sleep, you are richer than 75% of this world.
If you have money in the bank, in your wallet, and spare change in a dish someplace, you are among the top 8% of the world's wealthy.

If your parents are still alive and still married, you are very rare, even in the United States and Canada.

FINALLY! My last post is a continuation of my post up the page a bit. I finally figured out that it took MANY changes to those 2 words to make them acceptable. I'm very frustrated!

That does put things into perspective, Julie. I can't believe that those two words are unacceptable.

D made supper for me tonight. Hubby is working and it's nice not to have to cook in this heat.

I am finally able to post again! Very frustrating, as all I was trying to do was demonstrate how demographics break down on a smaller scale. I have to admit to being somewhat surprised by some of those statistics.

The guests/family we'll have here will be staying for several nights. As the wedding is in downtown Chicago, anyone involved with the rehearsal will be staying in hotels in the city for 2 nights, and they're not inexpensive. It's for that very reason that people will be with us for a couple of nights, so we can't send them to a nearby hotel. The logistics are a bit tricky because of D#1's children, all 5 and under. I suggested to hubby today that maybe WE should spend a night or 2 in a nearby hotel and let someone use our bed. That would make even more gninaelc to do and more gnihsaw of bed linens. Theresa, yep, overwhelmed is a good word. We're just not "entertaining" kinds of people, so the guests bring a lot of worry, gnashing of teeth, and general discomfort.

Suzy, our cat also plops down for a belly rub. The other one I called a "puppy-cat" and "Little Miss Underfoot." She would come running to the door to meet us when we got home. Thinking of you and your letter from the tax people.

Heidi, I'm so sorry to hear that Hollie had another bad night! Hopefully tonight will be better. Hoping for a bit of a miracle for her, or I know her days are numbered.

Tami, I hope you and your family had a fun day at the beach and the baseball game!

MizT, I'm glad your day started out better today - and hope it continued and was very relaxing for both you and Al!

Theresa, I can understand why you didn't feel you could tell your sister the truth! Very scary to ride in a car that you have seen flattened! Sometimes a little white lie might be necessary. You didn't want to hurt her feelings - or make her uncomfortable in her own car.

Broni, I hope you're not too exhausted or sore from working on the boat. So sorry the lady you were filling in for got shingles! Not fun for her!

Gail, thanks for the heads up! Happy Birthday Mr. Cyn! Enjoy a yummy virtual cake! Have a great day!

I'm so sorry to hear about Judy and Punch! How awful to have to deal with illness like that in an older cat. Is the big black cat a neighbor's pet - or feral? Does your area have animal control officers! Hoping Judy and Punch both recover to enjoy much more time with their loving family!

MizT, I'm so glad the cooler temperatures have accompanied the rain and made things more comfortable!

Rolanda, I hope all of our positive thoughts helped S#2 in his interview & technical test! I'm so sorry to hear about your friend Sue's Dad! Prayers for him for an easy and peaceful passing and for her to be able to accept and deal with it!

Theresa, good for your D for fixing dinner for you! I hope you are able to keep cool and relax for the rest of the day/night! It's too bad that your sister is not happy with you. If only she could see it from your point of view!

I'm off to check on email for a bit, but hope to be back.

May Sue's father's journey be peaceful and surrounded by love

Morning all,
First let me clear up the tax letter - it's a scam aimed at getting our info! All of our taxes were sorted by our accountant before we left. I also have 2 emails from UPS about parcels in my SPAM box.

Gail, what an annoyance that the strange cat seems to have injured your Judy!! I'm glad you gave it a hard time before letting it out, even if it doesn't seem to have worked.

MizT, I hope your tummy bug has settled down and I'm glad you got to have a cool sit on the verandah.

Brenda, how is your son? I hope he is improving and you are not having to wait on him hand and foot!

Vicki, any news about your hubby?

Rolanda, I hope the interview goes well. If he's doing the technical test he must be doing well so far!!

Broni, I hope your work is just boring enough to give you time to rest and recuperate, but not so boring that you wish it was over.

Tami, any update on the surgery? Great idea about the large pot! I might copy as I would have to pay over $100 to get one as big as I want. When I first moved back here I bought a fix in a little 5" pot. It has been repotted and repotted and has outgrown the one it is in now. We'll have to break the pot it's in to get it out. A plastic one would be so much easier.. So sorry about your friend's parent. It's not a trend, just a part of getting older - probably the hardest part! {{{hugs}}}

Julie, you and I are alike when it comes to entertaining guests. I feel I have to clean, clean, clean before they come, and then I'm too tired to enjoy their company. We no longer have overnight guests because we don't have the room, and we've just got too many cats.

Theresa, apart from surgery, I recommend completely backing off from all of those crafts you enjoy for at least 2 years, then you can start them again in moderation. At least that's what worked for me (I bought my first sewing machine to fill the gap)... the doc wanted to do both hands and I had a 6 month old in nappies/diapers! Yeah, that was going to work!! Even after surgery, moderation is recommended to avoid relapses.

Hi all. Had a fun 4th. Beach was good, but we did not stay long. Way too hot. Got home and got a phone call from a friend who had tickets to the game for us. Picked them up and went to the game. The Marlins lost 1-0 to Philly but the fireworks at the end was great.

I should know about FIL surgery tomorrow or Wednesday. He wants to get it done soon so he can travel to his Grandson's (my nephew) wedding in early Sept.
Theresa, good luck tomorrow at the doctor. I hope it is something that can be fixed easily.
Suzy, I did not feel like spending $50 for a flower pot, either. When I saw the plastic tub, I thought that would be cute. It just takes "thinking out of the box" sometimes to come up with a workable solution.

So proud of all my boys. They were having some contests before the ball game. Mitchell one the cupcake eating contest. Had to eat a cupcake with no fingers, he finished first. Hubby won a soda drinking contest. Finished a can of Coke first. Dylan placed second for his age group in the soda contest. Are my boys something else, or what.

Suzy, you have some good advice for dealing with carpal tunnel syndrome.

Theresa, I hope you get good news from the doctor. Hopefully moderation in use will give you some relief.

Tami, I love your idea of the plastic tub for a large pot. They can be so expensive. Congrats to Dylan, Mitchell and your hubby for their excellent showing in the eating and drinking contests! It sounds like they had fun!

I'm having a hard time staying awake, so it must be time for bed. Good Night, Everyone! Please share the , prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}} and positive thoughts sent your way! You are all so very special!

Theresa, would you like to hear the story of how we named the brother and sister Punch and Judy? Gonna tell you anyway!

I was at home one day and through the louvres I could see something odd out on the back lawn. I could tell it was our big ginger, Scrap, but it looked like he had something black on his belly!. I went out there and he was curled up, with this tiny black and white kitten nestled in his lap! I have no idea where this kitten came from, but unfortunately it disappeared within a day. Over the next couple of days though, Scrap was taking some food to the back of the yard and eventually we found two more kittens! I started giving him extra food, and he would eat it, and call them to come and eat as well. They were extremely timid and it took many days for them to feel brave enough to come near the house, but the female would come first, then the other one, of course, there is no show without Punch, so naturally she had to be Judy!
As I said, I really have no idea where they came from, but my theory is that they were his kittens, and the mother had died, and he brought them home to us! You have never seen anything like it, Scrap was this big, burly, tom cat, but he was one big softy when it came to these kittens.

Yes Suzy, it did! Chloe came home from enrolling for the course she is going to do, and asked me the same question. I had been sitting at the computer and felt something, but as our house is on stilts, I thought it might have been the wind or something, but I could sort of hear a rumbling and felt a minor tremoring, but never gave it another thought till she mentioned it! She said the power went off and on at the college she was at.

Hi everyone!
Cyn, please wish Col a Happy Birthday from me.

Nothing happening here. Just busy at work and home. Nothing new with Hubby's shoulder. We have to wait for the next Dr appointment on 15th.

New oven is delayed by a couple of weeks. Oh well, I've lived without it for this long what's another few weeks - except it's bl00dy annoying!
