Theresa, try CBS42.com, not sure if they are there live or not.

I just watched live video of a tornado on the ground, almost q mile wide, and on the ground for about 15 minutes, it is back on the ground heading toward Birmingham, dense population area, not a good thing.

I am in the dome on Al's computer.

This site will show the local and national weather. Tricia lives near Birmingham, AL and you can look for Heidi at Magnolia, KY. This might give people the info they want. This country is a mess with storms right now.

Gail, I agree. I have been through a cat. 5 hurricane with the eye passing right over my house but I do not want to go through these tornadoes. At least you get a warning on a hurricane and can put up shutters.

Back in the house. No damage here. We were off line cause of lightning north of us, but this was just a bit of rain and thunder for us at our house. Tornadoes were on the ground just 8 miles from us, in the town of Montevallo. That close.

We did watch on TV one of the biggest and longest lived tornadoes on the ground in possibly the history of the state today. HUGE and on the ground from south west Alabama where it entered the state, all the way across to north east where it exited the state. There were reports of restaurants gone, unaccountably missing, just a parking lot remaining and no sign of the people who worked there or who were eating there. They showed a ravine next to a major highway, and cars, trucks and vans stacked 3 and 4 deep. Destruction you cannot imagine. I am sure we will all be shocked tomorrow when all the damage reports and the final fatality numbers come in. Besides this one huge tornado, there were many others, confirmed on the ground. Never been a day like today. I am exhausted just from the enormity of what I have seen and heard today.

Well, my anxious wait to hear from MizT and Heidi was shortened by time spent with a RID officer. They are the guys who fine people for illegal dumping of waste. They found a pile of stuff dumped and some of it was Dana's. He was going through the photos and pointed at a nerf gun and he said - this is really weird, someone has hand painted the word anarchy on the end of this. Oh I said.. you know who this could be? he asked. I answered well they're not the only ones to say it but Three and his younger brother - who I named. He then showed me a piece of paper with the younger brother's name on it taken from the pile... He can't drive so I suspect there's been a clean up at the house and someone has dumped the stuff on the side of the road because the tip was shut. No attempt to return the stuff - even the text books that obviously belonged to the school.

Pleased that MizT and Heidi are safe.
Suzy I hope that the fine for fly tipping (that is what it is called here) is nice and big and that they can extract the money from three's mother. Though I do hope Dana doesn't have to pay anything as her stuff was there too.

I've just remembered Three's mother's name! I couldn't think of it when the officer was here. I told him I thought it was a psychological block related to everything that happened..

So let me get this right Zusy, Dana had left some of her stuff at Three's place or is she still living there? I am easily confused.

We had another Education Committee meeting tonight - about 3.5 hours, then home to work on minutes. Guess I'll try to get here tomorrow to read what I've missed!

Gail, I'm so green right now I want to call you names! Instead I'll say have fun!!

Broni, they are from when Dana used to live there. Alie told me tonight that Three has moved, I assume with his mother. Which makes where the stuff was dumped make sense...

Julie, you're on another committee!!! I hope you get some sleep tonight.

Morning all. Coffee is brewing and should be ready soon. Today is "take your child to work day." I have three "sons" coming with me. My two and one of the neighbor's who can't go with mom or dad. His sister is the "candy thief" I already spoke to my boss and she said it would not be a problem.

Morning Friends. Just up with my coffee and the national news. Unfortunately Alabama is featured today. Overnight the fatalities in Alabama rose to 128, and still counting. Two thousaand of the national guard are out today on search and rescue or search and recover missions. I have yet to see an aerial photo of the areas, but sure that will come today in time. I need breakfast and coffee, and then some time without storms, as they populated my dreams last night.

My sister and her son have had no power since early evening yesterday and no estimate when it will be restored. They join over 400,000 state wide. They could be without power for several days. they have a camper trailer (caravan) with generator, and will turn that on for refrigeration and cooking needs.

Some cell phone companies' phones are not working, I have not heard why, mine, my BIL, my nephew amongst them.

An Alabama nuclear power plant had to go to back up generators to keep the fuel cool.

Birmingham, largest Alabama city, has a critical water shortage, no power at the main intake areas where water is taken into the system. Residents depending on Birmingham water are told " critical water use only". One of the newsreaders for national news incorrectly stated the tornado was " in the ground for over a mile". Sorry fellow, it was over a mile WIDE.

My daughter in CT heard late last night about " a tornado in Alabama" and thought, Alabama, spring time, tornado, that's about normal. When she saw the extent of the tornadic outbreak this morning, said " I should have been worried."

Brenda, yes, I had thought of that. Also, vast over use. People without power also did not have phones in many areas, land lines, so relying on cell phones. One town lost the emergency communications capacity, they were going to cell phones to communicate.

OMG MizT!!! What a nightmare. We just got a lot of flooding and downed trees. I haven't watched or read the news so don't have any info on the tornado in our neighborhood. That big one sounds like the '95 tornado that plowed through Magnolia, tho' that one was only half a mile wide (there were also 2 other smaller tornados at the same time, including the one that went right over me as I assumed the fetal position).

I was watching the reports on CNN, MizT - so far 230+ fatalities. That is so scary and so sad.

We are having high winds right now, anywhere up to 100 km/hour. I have hunted down our garbage cans down the street, and then put large rocks in them. I also returned a neighbour's recycling bin to them - it was in our driveway.
