Over here MizT, we have chips and french fries. FF are the thin shoestring variety and chips are a larger cut. We also have wedges which are large chunky cut, usually very seasoned and served with sour cream and dipping sauces.
Sorry June for usurping you on this one, wasn't sure if you were still about.

GAIL, here potato chips are very thinly sliced potatoes that are deep fried in huge commercial kettles, Packaged and sent to the grocery store in big sealed bags. Shoe string, chunky cut or wedges of potatoes, when deep fried either at home or in restuarants, are called french fries.

I am back again. That's OK Gail. If you had waited for me the answer may not have made sense if it came up over the page!. Went and did yesterdays puzzles from our newspaper using the YOUR PUZZLES section on this site. Then wrapped the cakes I have made for the trading table at bowls tomorrow. Tried to take one out of the tin before it was properly cooled and it fell to pieces. Do not make cakes for ourselves any more so Hubby can enjoy eating it.

I know MizT, it gets very confusing, doesn't it. We also have bags of potato chips, called...chips! In England, they are known as crisps. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong, Brenda. (When you read this)

I need to get busy again also, break time over. Like Gail, must put the meat (my meatloaf is now cooled) away , and wrap the muffins and the peach crips for desert tonight. The cats would be in BIG trouble if they tried to jump on to the counters! I do not need to tempt them.

MizT about once a month we have a table with goods for sale. Could be unwanted gifts, crafts, jams etc, cakes. Just to make a few extra dollars towards the bowling club. It is only on a "ladies" day and as most players are in 60's to 80's the goods need to be things they would be likely to buy. When I make a cake or slice I generally sell it in 2 halves as that is about all most would eat.

Yes Gail you are correct about the chips/crisps for the commercially made packets.
We call French Fries chips (apart from the Macdonalds, KFC and BurgerKing franchises who use the term fries) I much prefer the chunky cut 'chips'which are far healthier than the thin fries. It has something to do with the surface area of the 'chip' in contact with the oil..

June why not do a sale when the men are around?
I'm sure that you would sell out of cakes quite quickly, especially if there are any single men at the club. This was the case when my father played bowls many years ago.
