Broni - he was a bit like D&D - he wouldn't have known where to look!!
He was so hopeless that he moved me into his new office with my desk facing him and the desks flush against one another. This was so he could just throw things into my in tray!!!
He was probably unaware that we even had an archive room downstairs - even though he was responsible for approving the design of the new offices.
Funny, hilarious man - hopeless manager!

Time to fling food. I must cook the pasta, and warm the sauce. it is still too hot to want to eat. Hubby was talking about taking a newer, colder AC from the shop for the house, but needs help. Hope he can find our handyman home soon and get it done!It is bad enough to have to pay for the energy being used. I would like to be a bit more comfy for my $$$$$$$.

Congratulations Nola! I too hope you have a nice relaxing break. I hope your hubby took you out to celebrate. Mine was good about stuff like that.
Cyn, I love that boss story! Lucky the kids are playing music so I don't get assigned to the 'nuts' pile for laughing all by myself...

Julie, we will miss you while you are busy!
Young man anecdote: We have told him that while he is here he will be having lessons in cooking inexpensive, filling and healthy meals. Ebob is going to do most of the teaching with me on the side giving hints for substitutions etc. I think we'll make him a cook book out of an exercise book. The expression on his face when we told him was absolutely priceless!!

Hi all. Just had a nice chat with Heidi via skype. Got to see at least some of the framework for the walls of the sunroom. I told her she needs to post some pictures, hopefully she will.
Suzy, bless you for what you are doing with that young man. It will definitely come back to you someday. Hope his brother has found someplace to stay and that he is ok.
I have read but don't remember. Have to get up early tomorrow for a training class. I am still coughing but have yet to go to the doctor. I know I should go and I might in a few days. Talk to you all tomorrow.

Heidi, which gun are you talking about: the stun gun or a real gun?

Why aren't you looking forward to telling your mother, Suzy? Will she be righteously indignant? Or upset that you've gotten involved. Since she produced you, I'm guessing the former.

We thought it was funny, too, Heidi. Even now when we go to the movies on a Tuesday, we'll be sitting having a coffee and giggle about the dead cows and wonder if someone has got a horrible surprise opening that box.

Heidi, I'm guessing it will be a mix of the two with my mother Heidi. She still thinks of me as a gullible teenager who needs protecting. It's one thing for her to do it, but I'm not responsible enough to ensure it doesn't disrupt the girls too much.

Suzy - Are you sure your mother and mine aren't related? Mine would have exactly the same reaction - even though she took in a friend of my brother's who was in a similar situation as a teenager.
That boy/man still thinks of us as family and flew from Darwin for my Dad's funeral.

My washing machine has decided not to spin. Hence I have a load of unrinsed wet washing. Just what I need as today is a public holiday and I will be out most of the rest of the week! The machine is almost 5 years old with an electric touch pad. With only two people it does not get overused. Bummer, Bummer!!!
I am trying all the tricks the manual suggests so hopefully it's
'turn the power off at the wall and wait 20 minutes' might work. I have removed the clothes and most of the water.
If I have to get someone to fix it I guess I had better start cleaning up the laundry so they can get in!!!

Evening all.
Nola, glad your assignment is done ... time to relax?
Vicki, sorry to hear about your uncle. Aside from my siblings, the rest of my relatives are in Holland and to be blunt, I wouldn't know them if I tripped over them. It's sad not to keep in touch with family, but it happens all the time.
Cyn, hope Emily and Turbo become best buddies!
June, both my brothers-in-law have a device they wear when sleeping for sleep apnea. It's just a question of me finding the time right now to spend the night at a clinic. My daughter went through this and they woke her up at 5:00 AM to tell her it was time to leave. We live about an hour's drive from there, so she had to phone her hubby to come and get her at that hour. You would think they would have let her sleep until at least 7:00 if she was able to.

I'm just trying to catch up on the reading. I've missed a day.
June, hope your hands are better.
Suzy, I sure hope they find the boy soon. Has the young man taken an attachment to the kitten?
I feel almost 100% today. I had a small nap this morning and then got the groceries done, planted some things, did a load of laundry. Then we had a BBQ for supper, including daughter and family. Since I had not been the most agreeable or accessible person lately, I made a "dream pie" for dessert, my daughter's favourite. It is actually a recipe for a cake frosting, but I pour it into a graham cracker crumb pie crust. Decadent as all get out, but yummy. I didn't have any, but the others sure enjoyed it.
Well, I'm caught up to the middle of page 244, but it's already 10:45 PM. Will try to drop in later to finish reading. Good evening/night/day everyone.

June... 5 years old is a new washer! Bummer, is right.
My last washer committed hari kari. It blew it's transmission out of the back of the machine. Left a 6 inch hole in the metal backing. The man who delivered the replacement had never seen anything like it.

June, bummer! Our washer did that in the States once. It turned out to be the safety switch that stops the machine when you open the lid - it thought the lid was open all the time. I hope yours is something as simple as that!
Nmmmmm Theresa, I think I might want the recipe for your dream pie.... the frosting part at least.
The young man seems to be settling in really well. We are trying our best to make him feel at home. He's a bit of a wreck at the moment over his brother though. Ebob has just gone to work and he is going to spend the time doing the rounds of the places his brother likes to go. Tough job for a youngun, but as he says, if his brother doesn't want family to know where he is, 'that's fine, don't tell me, I just want to know he isn't at the bottom of a quarry.' Sigh.

The wet washing is dripping on the line. The water will not pump out of the machine so I have organised a repairman for Wednesday. The only day I know I will be home this week. I might even end up with a clean and tidy laundry. It is a relatively large room for a laundry but there are so many boxes and things (including a BIG pile of ironing) that you can barely walk through.

Suzy lets hope the brother has been as lucky as your boarder. He possibly does not want to try contacting any family members which will make it hard to find him.
Just hope he has not tried to leave the area as that will make it even harder to find him. Just hope there is some news before the day is over, or maybe someone at school may know something tomorrow.

It's nearly 12:30 a.m. here, and I'm back to finish reading today's posts.
Hi to Broni, CynB, Heidi, MIzTricia, Suzy, Rolanda, Tami, June, Theresa, and anyone else who visits the page.
Broni, I hope once you have D & D firmly OUT of your life that you will only need to think about one business and perhaps sleep better and be less exhausted! I bet "D Squared" haven't even begun looking for a replacement.
Heidi, enjoy the 24 hours or so of peace. Broni's right! Hopefully all of the bills have been paid!
Cyn, I'm imagining one day someone looking through the boxes of Archives and finding the one marked "Dead Cows!" You know it will happen. All it will take is that company reaching a landmark anniversary! It would be fun to see the expression on the face of whoever opens the box!
MizT, I hope your hand and wrist are feeling better today! Since it has remained hot, you were brilliant to do much of your cooking for the day in the morning when it was a bit cooler. I hope you were beginning to feel hungry by the time you ate, but heat can destroy an appetite! Hopefully Al and the handyman were able to move the more efficient air conditioner from the office to the house! Good luck sleeping tonight, and I hope your hand feels better tomorrow!
Heidi, what a disappointment that he forgot to make his hotel reservation!
Suzy, what a great idea to take the time to teach the young man some cooking basics!
Tami, I was hoping that being through with school and getting some rest might have helped you feel better. I'm sorry to hear that you are still coughing! Get thee to a doctor, young lady! I hope you feel better tomorrow, even though you have training!
Oh, dear, Suzy, I hadn't thought about telling your mother. When does she return? She should be so PROUD of you and your family for what your are doing for the young man!
Heidi, good for you - and the pizza!
June, I hope your hands are feeling better today! I'm sorry to hear about the gnihsaw enihcam malfunction! I hope you have been able to sort it out! Good luck, dear! What a lot of extra work and inconvenience will be caused by your malfunctioning washing machine! (It's not a swear word because it is NOT working; however, you might want to swear AT it!)
Theresa, I hope you are feeling better today! I have had 3 sleep studies. I think they woke us between 6 and 6:30 to get up and shower. The rooms serve a dual purpose at the hospital where I had my study. They are in the lower level of the cancer center and are oncology rooms, so they need to be cleaned and prepared for daytime use. We live about 45 minutes away from the hospital where the study was done. I have been using a CPAP (continuous positive air pressure) machine since the first sleep study - probably at least 8 or so years.
Heidi, I loved your story about your old washing machine committing hari kari! Only on Surreal Farm!

Suzy, the young man certainly has his hands full with trying to take care of himself and worry about his brother! What a shame that the parents didn't think of (or care enough) to spend some time searching for the younger brother.

The brother's family is looking for him, but the kids he hangs out with wouldn't tell them anything. That's why the young man's looking too, he's hoping they will talk to him... I will see in an hour.

I now have 1/2 the laundry clear. I have cleaned behind and under the machine (also all the dust collected around the dryer). A pile of stuff in the bin and several boxes to be sorted in the sun room. At least there is room to get to the machine and fix it. The 9ft. long work bench is still piled high with craft, things waiting to be mended tins, boxes etc. One of those jobs that has been waiting forever. Just got to watch my back as I do have a lot on this week.
