Pleased you were able to stop the pipes freezing Tricia. I have lived in a house here were the pipes froze overnight but not to the extent you get.
One shelf of the pantry, the one most affected, has been cleaned and the floor spayed where they were coming in. Some things have been put back but still a lot to do tomorrow. Lots of out of date things being ditched while I am there.

I hope you have sorted your problem Cyn. Now we just need Bean to work out her problem. Off to bed and see if I can have a better night tonight.

Good Girl Rain, glad she made it though the night accident free.

Temp is up to a balmy 31 degrees right at freezing, Sunny again, Kitties are outside sunning themselves. I am tempted to find a sheltered place in the sun , wrap up in polar tec blanket nd let the sun warm me as much as it warms the fur on kitties! I just need sunshine.

We ran our last errand fore the predicted snow, got cat food and I was able to get one more deer for this next year. We have venison again! I made hubby venison sausage and quiche today, he is happy.

Well, since I have been up since 5 am, I think a nap is in order. I will check back in later,

Snow still falling, slowly though. Temps are forecast to be around -5C tonight. I'm not going anywhere soon. Elaine's school closed early this afternoon to make sure that the buses transporting the kids were able to get them home. The shopping centre where Emily has a job in a bakery cloosed early so she didn't have to go in, her shift didn't start until after the closure. Andrew has gone to work and has been asked to stay in the hotel tonight to make sure they have staff in the morning. Richard postponed going into London so has been working at home today.
I've started knitting again, finishing a project I started last year.

Brenda, what are you knitting? I knew how once long long ago, but gave up knitting for crochet. for some reason, crochet went faster for me.

Knitting a cardigan for Elaine, just have one sleeve and button bands to do. It is chunky knit so will not take long to finish. Then I have an arran to finish for Andrew

I am assuming that arron is a type of yarn or a certain kind of pattern? Ahhh, after consulting Mr Google, looks to be a pattern of some difficulty, very lovely. Nope, never learned to do anything like that, my "knitting" was not in the same class, or even within calling distance of that! Do show us a photo when that is finished, if you can. I would like to see it.

Morning all!
MizT, I'm glad your pipes didn't freeze. I know what you mean about sunshine. Although I can't sit in it anymore I still miss it when it isn't around.

Brenda, I never did get the little jacket for Ebob finished. A part of the problem was we had a huge argument (teenagers!) and I stopped knitting for a while... The hotel has a good method of ensuring they have staff - I hope they feed him for free though!

Today.. dlof sehtolc, Ebob is spending the day with a friend, Ally has rehearsal - they have to learn a bunch of Australian type songs for a gig on the Australia Day weekend, then she is supposed to be going swimming with friends. It's looking very cloudy so I'm not sure what's going to happen with that.

What's another word for gig? Performance? Both sound pompous and show-offy. Thing?

What's happening in north Tassie Suzy?
I read somewhere that they are finding out what is causing the cancer problems with the Tasmainian Devils and how it is spreading so badly. Hopefully they will beable to find a cure or a gene therapy.

Good morning lovely SA people!
Suzy - I was just giggling at your mastery of the performance lingo in calling it a 'gig', when I read the following post. Heidi's right -'show' sounds less pretentious.
Heidi - glad Rain had an incident free night.
June - I often find with ants that if you spray only some of them, the others take their bodies away, I guess to their nest, and hence they all disappear.
Brenda - that weather over there is worrying. I was talking to my friend who lives 30 kms out of Huddersfield and she was going to try to drive to work, in H, yesterday on those icy, dangerous roads. I'm hoping she gets snowed in to keep her safe. Her daughter is snowed in at Leeds.

Quiet-ish day. I've been getting Rain, Frosty and the Canaries settled in. I'm trying to figure out where I'm going to find live earthworms with the earth frozen. I'm gonna need to find some for Frosty.

Frosty! I love it! A bait shop? Any fishing in your area? Garden shops maybe. Frosty might have to make do with frozen ones for a while.

Brenda, there are fires in north Tasmania at the moment.

Cyn, the 'others' call them gigs and I used it just because I couldn't think of anything else. As Heidi showed it me, it was really very simple!

Heidi, could you try some chopped liver, or maybe put him back into hibernation.
Suzy, checked the fire situation in Tassie and non reported in eaa's area.
I loved knitting cable patterns but it now plays up with the arthritis in my thumbs. So very little knitting and then generally fairly plane stuff.
The ants are out of the pantry but I do need to take all the stuff out at floor level and spray all around to, hopefully, stop them coming back.
Starting to feel a bit better, I did sleep well last night, which helps.
Cleaning lady has been, Ken is at another funeral (another ex baseballer)and when he comes back he can take me shopping. Just do not feel like doing it all myself today. (and Ken wants to be fed!!!)

Heidi - worms for Frosty. A garden shop or a hardware shop. Ours sells them for worm farms - in boxes, still alive!

Hello everyone!
Brenda, I used to love knitting, even learned how to spin my own wool, but eventually found that it really hurt my fingers too much - plus my kids hated knitted jumpers, said they were "scratchy"! Not much incentive to keep it up after that ...
Heidi, I just looked up your red-eared slider, thought it sounded familiar - yep, it's banned in Oz - a wopping great fine or 5 years in jail for keeping or breeding them! @_@ !!

Heidi, you could have called it Ice Cube or Freeze, but Frosty sounds cuter.

I feel like an ice cube. It got to 35(1.67 c) this morning by me and 32 (0 c) nearby. They are saying it could be a degree or two colder tomorrow morning. I live in Florida, I don't want cold.

They used to be commonly found in pet shops here. The mortality rate for those poor babies was astronomically high. More than 99%. They're fortunately now banned from pet stores. They do live wild here, though.

I'll take it, Heidi - it's a bit warm here and we're heading for hotter weather by the weekend through most of next week!
Our solar panels are finally being installed on Monday. We got in right at the end of the rush before the Govt reduced the rebate and had to wait and wait..... Then we put them off for December because we had Christmas lights on the roof. So finally, once they go in and with the hot, hopefully sunny weather, we'll be able to save on power. Yee Haaa!

June I laughed wondering which of my problems you wanted 'sorted' .... where to start... but I think if I don't try to turn the page I should be right until I get around to having everything reinstalled.

I have been the epitome of lazy today...got up early [6am] and went back to bed to read, snoozed and finally surfaced this afternoon. Haven't done anything I was meant to... I am reading 'The Road' - want to have it finished before I see the film in a couple of weeks. I plan to go to a special screening at the Nova after which there will be a forum discussing the age old conundrum... film vs book... some of my favourite editors and literary critics are on the guest list so it should be interesting. Sort of a different take on a regular book club event...

A friend dropped around yesterday to offer to do some shopping for me. I sing with her every Thursday and she knows how crippled I have become. She was SO impressed when she saw me she carted me off shopping and invited me around for dinner.

Weeell... her hubby couldn't get over the difference in me. NO STICK... it was his birthday and he asked if he could borrow it!! They have known me for such a LONG time and he commented on how worried he was when he saw the state I was in at the Halloween party. He said how concerned they were about how long I would be around for if I kept deteriorating at that rate... I don't EVER want to feel as bad as I did that night...unless the hole has already been dug and I have one foot in it already... LOL...I was in so much pain I couldn't even dress myself and my BF had to dress me..

To cut a long story short after weeks of far too many hours spent in doctors waiting rooms I seem to have finally started on a drug regime that is working for me. I don't feel tied down by the pain that was immobilising me as much as the arthritis. I have NO idea how I did any of the walks in the Grampians with Vici. I still shudder when I remember and recall the pain I was in that week. If it hadn't been for the adrenaline rush I was experiencing from the excitement of finally meeting our Californian friend I don't think the amount of pain killers I was downing on that trip would have got me home again.

WOW... I have have just done my sums...so much has happened in the last couple of months... it really seemed MUCH longer than that! Before the doctor started me on my present drug regime I told him that I could only manage to do anything for about 15 minutes [walk, garden etc] before the totally incapacitating pain ground me too a halt. After blithely saying that I decided to ACTUALLY time myself...I found out that what I thought was 15' was in fact only 5'. That was a shock... but Gail could probably have told you that after working with me in my garden...DUH!!

It has been taking me 10-12 hours to do 8 hours work for so long that I hadn't even noticed that it had increased to double that!!

and now I have prattled on for quite long enough.... love you all

Ken is out cleaning his old Ute. We are getting rid of it on Saturday. It will be like loosing an important member of the family.
My Dad, who was a dairy farmer and never had a lot in life bought the ute as his one big luxury, with all the mod cons, just 3 months before he died. My Mom would not part with it so it sat around the farm for some years (if anyone needed to borrow a vehicle we could use it) until she finally sold it to us about 13 years ago. It has been an 'office' with all Ken's baseball stuff for the many years that he ran Baseball NSW and really has become his 'signature' vehicle in the last so many years. It is however getting expensive to run and inclined not to want to start in the hot weather. I guess we all have a life span!
