Suzy, I call them "gigs" when I'm talking about music. My brother has gigs. I talk about "shows" when I'm referring to my nieces' going with their Irish dancing school and putting on a show, like Riverdance.

Hope everyone has been doing well in the new year. It's been very busy here with all the kids home. I took Bryana back on Monday and I'll be going next weekend to see her basketball game and celebrate her 17th birthday. I'll also be bringing Meghan back to school that day. Hopefully it won't be snowing when we drive to Boston.

Vici - thanks for forwarding Rolanda's email. Albany is such a beautiful place.
Nola - pleased that Judy is not ill yet - hope it stays that way. Keeping her in my thoughts.

My son is out on a racetrack this morning driving a V8 Supercar - an early birthday present (his b'day is the 18th) from his wife and kids organised before the marriage bust-up. She was planning to take the kids to watch but now 'can't be bothered'.
I'll be pleased to hear that it's over. He thinks I'm being ridiculous, after all he will be 39!

CynB, this seems to be a dream of lots of guys, driving on a recetrack. My hubby did it back BT (before Tricia) in his own street legal auto. He drove one of the NASCAR tracks, just before it opened for it's first race. Wasn't supposed to be there, really, but a friend of a friend arranged it somehow. He still talks about it.

I would be like you, just wanting it to be over.

Daughter dated a guy from High school on for several years, he and his father drove roundtrack, BIR. She loved going to races with him and kept statistics , down on pit row. Not me!

Let us know how it all goes and how long after he keeps talking about it.

HEIDI, I know you have seen this before, but I think you need it now.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I do love that Rainbow Bridge story!
It is a great opportunity for my son to do this since I cheated him out of a possible golden one when he was younger. He's a natural driver, I will admit that. There was an ad in the paper when he was about 19 - they were looking for young guys to test their potential for possible training as race car drivers. I read it and mulled over it all day weighing up my fears against his dreams. By the time I told him later in the day and he phoned, they had been inundated with calls and weren't accepting any more. He was so disappointed and I felt guilty for holding out on him long enough for him to miss the opportunity.

I just stuffed up the Breast Cancer Awareness thread on FB - I sent it on to some friends and accidentally included my Son-in-law, who can't keep his mouth shut at the best of times! Oh bugger!

Heidi, my heart goes out to you loosing two favourite dogs in such a short time.
Cyn, if Son-I-L makes any cooent remind him that there are quite a few men who develop breast cancer and that you thought he should be aware of the fact. Just make it look as though you sent it to him with his interests at heart.(A good way to make a mistake appear to your advantage!)
And what a great birthday present, even if it was organised when times were better for him. I understand you being pleased when it was over. Sounds just like me!

Things have gone belly up here. Ken now has to go to Vietnam, Myanmar, and Singapore leaving on Sunday. What you would call short notice! We had to go to the Egyptian Embassy at lunch time to get out passports back as we had sent them in for our Egyptian Visas. That will now have to be done as we enter Egypt when we would have liked to know we had them before we left. We then had to go to the Vietnam Embassy to get a 'quickie'(generally takes 2-3 days) visa for that country. He will then get the one for Myanmar when in Bangkok. He will probably be back 19 January,
I am not happy!!! And especially about him going to Myanmar and travelling into the countryside and maybe having to fly on one of their planes. (they are not very reliable!!!!!)
He does this job because HE enjoys it but seems to get sent away when I really need him at home.

No problems CynB if you are coming past Port, would be great to see you again.
John has a growth in his lung and his appt. with the specialist is 1st Feb.
Hubbies father, who is 87, has a cancer on the outside of his lung and they hit it with one big dose of radiation. He has not been well.

Viv, sending SA vibes to John and FIL. I'm not surprised that FIL is not well, at 87 that would be a seriously difficult treatment to cope with.

Oh Viv, sorry to hear about John and your father-in-law. They'll be in my thoughts, along with Nola's sister and June's friend. And Heidi for different reasons.
June, I think I can say it here, not too many men drop in (you can bet vdV will, now) - the Breast Cancer Awareness thing on FB was to be sent only to women who were to post the colour bra they are wearing today - has been an interesting exercise with nearly everyone participating, except, I guess, those who haven't logged in today. The other part of it was not to tell the men and leave them wondering. My mistake was to accidentally hit my sil's name - darn it!
It's been interesting - white, cream, beige, black, pink, navy with white spots, black and white stripes, sea blue...........

Suzy, He does some Technical consultancy for someone who is an alcohol broker (industrial). Checks out manufacturing and ship loading facilities. I have been to Vietnam with him a couple of times and I love the place. If timing had been different I could have gone there and we could have stayed an extra week at one of their resorts. Very inexpensive.

Survived another cold cold night. Our "snow storm" was a no show here. We did get enough sleet to make the steps slick, and ice up the windshield of the auto.

The ice pellets falling also interfered with our TV reception, cable is not available here. Almost missed seeing the national championship College football game, University of Alabama Won. ROLL TIDE!! We did see the second half after the precipitation cleared our area.

Just wanted to say I am toasty warm, and faucets are not frozen and the sun is coming up again! Life is good.

Heidi, I have not yet caught up with all the pages I have missed, but Cyn gave me a run-down of what has been going on and she told me of your sad losses. I am so very sorry. I knew the kind inevitable was coming for Melony, but have no idea what has happened to Lucky that has made you have to take this action.
Again, I am so sorry.

Oh, you sweet ladies. I just went back a page to find out about Lucky (Heidi, I can't even begin to imagine what it was like having to watch Lucky go through that. You did the right thing. You are the kindest animal lover I know ). While I was there, I spotted the posts saying you were missing me, thank you.
I am home, but it is very late and MY bed is calling me.
I will come by in the morning and let you know how the week went, suffice it to say I am doing fine and Bill is well. Bless you all.

So much sorrow here in SA right now.
Viv - keeping John and your FIL in my prayers...I've got a pretty long list of prayers these days.
June - keeping Ken in my thoughts and hoping he doesn't have to get on one of their planes. Are you getting excited about Egypt? have you been in contact with Wagdy yet?

Cyn - I would love to get out on a track like your son did for his b'day present...I would be a joke, though - probably driving WAY too slow.
Hope he had a blast!
Off to get my car serviced. While it's being worked on, my friend Carol and I will be going out to brunch and a movie. Going to see "It's Complicated" - heard it was laugh-out-loud funny.
Will report back tomorrow morning.
Hugs to all of you.

Nice to see you home Gail.
Vici, We were just starting to think about Egypt and now there is Ken's trip, the ute goes today, Son wants us in Melbourne to baby sit etc and we will be in Egypt this time in 4 weeks. It will go too quickly. Yes we will probably get to meet Wagdy.
I will probably go and stay with Belinda for a few days next week. Spending 3 weeks of her holidays looking after Laura while Sharon is doing volunteer work at the scout Jamboree is starting to get a bit much. Laura is also starting to want to be with her Mum. (a lot of Mum/Grandma concerns that you can imagine behind those comments!!)
