Soundwave sounds like quite the show! Does she want that instead of the BBQ or as well as the BBQ?

Another heifer calf on the ground, and a calf part way out.... so far just the feet showing.
Back soon.

Tomorrow is a provincial holiday (Family Day), so sonIL will be home and I have the day off. Think I'll try and get some cooking done so that I can freeze dinners for when time is short later in the week. Hubby has to work because he works for a museum that is a federal crown corporation. I also want to get as much swearing done as possible to at least get our house in order before the operation. I am trying to be organized, with the emphasis on "trying".

We have our first bull calf of the season on the ground!!! A nice, big, purebred Red Angus.
That's 4 calves born today. I think another cow will be calving this evening or tonight. She's acting like she's going into labor.

Is that a total of 6, Heidi? I've lost track already.
I'm cleaning out the coffee pot with vinegar because it has been running slowly. Nothing worse than waiting and waiting and waiting for that first cup of coffee in the morning.

Yep.... 6. 5 heifers and one bull. The weather couldn't be better for calving, too.
The last heifer born looks different than the other calves. She has a white stripe down her lower back and tail. That marking is referred to as a Skunk Tail. Mama is a Red Angus/ Charolais cross that produces that marking.

The 2 front hooves are showing, now. The fifth cow to calve today will have her calf on the ground in 15 to 20 minutes.

Morning all!
My goodness Suzy - are all those bands in the 1 show? Or is it an all day thing? Looks huge and noisy - yep, I know I'm getting old. Glad she's having a party - for 50!
Heidi - congrats on the new calves and those new finches do look elegant!

Another nice, big, bull calf!!! That's five calves born so far today. We still have 4 3/4 hours left in the day, too.

No.... everything is calm out in the calving pasture. They're all either laying down chewing their cuds, or nursing their calves. I don't think that I'll need to do a late night/ early morning cow check.

Cyn, it's an all day thing, like that other one whose name I can't remember, but it's darker bands who don't really make music, they make noise - and I defy anyone to tell me that calling screamo noise makes me an old fogey!! Even most of the youngun's don't like it.

The thing about screamo is that it tricks you. The songs start out like any other song, but then someone literally starts to scream the lyrics and you fall off your chair. I told Ebob is that the only good thing about screamo is that the bands won't last long because they won't have any voices left..

Gekko, Friends!
Hi, Suzy, Heidi, June, Broni and Gail!
Suzy, Nommy is indeed a silly cat! Do you have any idea how he got on the roof? If so, you might want to make it less accessible.
Heidi, I hope you have been able to spend the day without a queasy stomach!
Woo Hoo, June! Congrats to Laura for three third places with the horse! Amazing for someone who has only had a couple of weeks of training! I would say that qualifies her as a beginner! Hooray for her firsts for a collage and a drawing! Well done, Laura!
Suzy, thanks for the link to the story about the little girl! I found a follow-up and she was already home! If there is such a thing as angels, hers was by her side that day!
Broni, what an awful day you had trying to book a flight back for Possum! How very infuriating! I hope you were eventually successful!

Hi, Suzy, Broni, Theresa, CynB, Tami, Heidi, Brenda, June and Gail!
Suzy, which D's birthday is it? Maybe the D should make the plans, so you won't be blamed if there is another change of preference. Good luck! Will certainly be thinking of you and your family next Friday!
Broni, SO glad you finally had success after so much aggravation!
Theresa, in the follow-up article about the 3-year-old who was run over, only about 4 or 5 siblings were mentioned.
Cyn, I hope your hubby will soon be feeling better and getting more rest!
Theresa, I hope you, your D and your grandie will all be feeling better soon! (I kind of hope you had a nana nap after your chicken noodle soup!
Brenda, no worries about you comment dealing with cocker spaniels. (Or, if you are daft, so am I, because I completely followed your train of thought.) I was also not aware that some cocker spaniels might be a bit belligerent, but I also have not been around any for quite a while.
Heidi, congratulations on your new heifer calves! Maybe the rest of the calves are waiting to be sure the weather is milder. Maybe most of the rest will be baby bulls.
Wow, Heidi, you sure took a lot of birds to the pet shop (31, if I counted correctly)! Now I'm wondering how many you had before you took them in. I hope they all sell and bring you enough money to keep your enterprise going! Congratulations on your new Bronze-winged Mannikins!

Supposed to be a storm coming thru this after, it will be a relief after the heat and humidity but of course it is a vicious circle rain, heat = humidity.
Poor Bella has been knocked around by it too, I have been spraying her down all day to try and keep her cooler.

Tami, good question for Heidi! I've also wondered how many animals she has. Maybe the right answer is, "Enough to keep her happy."
Suzy, I hope the BBQ for 50 of Ebob's closest friends will be a success! I can't imagine having that many people, so crossing fingers for you that all goes well!
Heidi, you did really well with your first sale of birds! And didn't you say some of them are on consignment? Nice job! I hope you have a pair among the 3 bronze-winged mannikins!
Broni, I hope you didn't swear too much and that you followed it with an enjoyable and refreshing dip in the pool, then cooled off a bit before your couch potato/internet time!
Heidi and Theresa, I share your opinion of puppy mills! I don't think I would EVER buy a dog from a "pet store," as so many of them get their dogs from a puppy mill. If I wanted a pure-bred dog, I would go directly to a conscientious breeder.
Heidi, I'm thinking Hollie has good taste in people!
I'm off to check out Suzy's link to Soundwave.
