Okay, in a week we've gone from the old 'I don't want a party' to 'can we camp down the back?' to a BBQ/sausage sizzle for about 50 people! Next Friday!!!

Another call to #2 call centre and apparently third party websites have glitches in them for this VBV thingy, had to register my card thru #2 and try and book again.....finally success!

Morning all, here I sit with coffee in hand.

Suzy, our animal laws sound very similar to yours. About 10 years ago I narrowly missed being attacked by a Rottweiler, and he was huge. I managed to run to a motel about 30 feet away. I had realized that the chain that was holding the dog was broken. Terrified me. I phoned the police ASAP because if that dog got a hold of a small child, that child would have been a goner.

June, congratulations to Laura (and Belinda for the training). Kids are amazing!

Broni, I hate call centres too, especially when you get a message at the beginning saying all their representatives are busy, but please hold because your call is important to them. Yeah, right.

Suzy, loved the link, but 10 siblings?????

On to the next page.

Night all!
Julie - hubby is still sick, he has had the flu for 2 weeks, his defences are low, he works long hours and he needs a good rest, poor thing!

Morning all. Just stopping in for a minute.
Suzy, thanks for sharing the link. It is nice to read a good story occasionally. I have never been attacked by a dog, luckily.
Sending good thoughts and vibes to all.

Cyn, sorry your hubby is still not feeling so good. That's rough when he can't take time off to fully recuperate.

I too am not feeling so great today. Hubby got the groceries and he is gone to meet his sister at the flea market. The youngest grandie is not feeling well, my daughter is not feeling well, so I guess it only made sense that I was going to get it. The good thing is it will hopefully have passed out of my system by the time of D's operation. Life will be really hectic then.

Wonder if Heidi has a new baby this morning.

Off to grab a bit of soup (chicken noodle of course) and then I think I'll have a nap. Or play on the pooter. Or watch TV. Or do crafts. Or do absolutely nothing ......

I'm finally up. No note from IH about a new calf, which probably means there is one. I'm having a quick brekkie, then I'll catch birds, do a cow check, then take off for the pet shop.

I was going to say that too Suzy.
Pitbull's are banned in the UK too, trouble is that there are so many cross bred pitbull type dogs that a few slip in. I have never heard of a problem with Cocker Spaniels Theresa, I have one and know of lots more and they are all soft and would rather run off than bite anyone.

A nice big heifer calf! That's three heifers and no bulls. And a slow start to calving. At this date last year, we had 12 calves on the ground.

The calves will come in their own good time Heidi. If I am up in the early hours it is generally because the cat has decided to wake me to be fed. (even if there is still food in her dish in the kitchen)
Get well wishes for all those who are a bit 'under the weather'

I returned home to another new calf.... a heifer out of one of my favorite cows. IH actually tagged her for me!

The pet shop was thrilled with the birds. I took in 6 Lovebirds , 14 Budgies and 11 Gouldian Finches , and they paid me a good price for some, and the rest are on consignment. They told me that yesterday alone, 3 people came in looking for Lovebirds. They figure that all the birds will go fast. The Gouldians gathered a nice crowd in the store, lots of oohing and aahing.

I didn't come home empty handed. I bought 3 new birds... a species of finch called a Bronze -winged Mannikin. I'll submit a smilie of some. They're really tiny, and compatible with the Gouldians, so I have them together.

Morning all,
It's Ebob's 18th birthday on Friday. She didn't want a party, just a ticket to Soundwave. Now we're having 50 people...

IH is thrilled. He saw me load up the baby birds, and he figured that I'd get $250 for the lot. He was astonished that they paid me $515. I haven't told him about the Mannikins yet, and may not. I don't know what I have as to genders, since the 2 are indistinguishable. They had 3 of them, so that's what I got. There MAY be a pair there.

Gail, I'm telling mom ... stop looking at me!!!

Just got up from a 3 hour nap and I feel gooder and gooder. Yahoo.

Brenda, I like cocker spaniels, they are so cute. I believe it was a vet who told us that some are bred so finely that they have strange quirks in their disposition. My sisterIL's spaniel hated kids, especially when they were crawling on the floor. When my D was little, they had to put the dog in a separate room for fear he would bite her. I guess he figured he was the only one entitled to be on all fours.

Theresa.... The problem with Cockers is not being too finely bred, it from being irresponsibly bred. Back about 50 years ago, Puppy mills bred them to excess with no socializing and no selection for disposition, and ruined a delightful breed. Good Cockers with sound dispositions still exist, but can be gotten only from experienced, conscientious breeders who are not into it for the money, but for the love of the dogs.

That makes sense Heidi, and I agree. I hate puppy mills. We have had dogs over the years but they have all been mutts, what we call the Heinz 57 variety.

Two of my rescues were breeders in a puppy mill. Willow was only 2 when we shut them down, and had already had 3 litters! I have no idea how many litters Hollie had, but she was 10 when she arrived here. She has finally come to love me, but ignores almost all other people. I say almost, because there was one single exception. She was crazy about Grass-hopper! Does THAT say something about Sudokuland folks?

This is what my new finches look like. They have a black head and throat, a white breast and bronze/brown wings and back. They're considered the least colorful of all finches, but I think they're very elegant.
