Morning all!
Suzanne, Australia Day celebrates the arrival of the First Fleet in 1788 (that's when the Brits arrived here). In 1988 I celebrated by sleeping on a gun emplacement below Taronga Zoo so I'd have a good spot to watch the re-enactment of the tall ships entering the harbour. Amazing!!

Brenda, my first thought about getting your sofas upstairs was 'wait for hubby to get home'. Weak woman that I am! Leather sounds nice, what colour?

Nola, I hope the chemo isn't making Judy feel too horrible.

Good morning lovely SA people and Happy Australia Day to the Aussies amongst you.
Oh Suzy - how to explain that to Ebob. Best to just discourage her!
Nola - pleased Judy is doing OK. Sorry about your son's marriage. As you probably remember, this happened to my son's marriage back in September. Best thing for the couple but awful for the kids. Hope the boys get through it unscathed. (Not happening with my granddaughters - especially Emily)
Hello to everyone else.

OK Aussies, there's a selection of Australiana for you. Have a great day, whatever you are doing.
Nothing special for us - got to visit my MIL, at her request, and then we've got to come home to get the equipment ready for Col's new contract job tomorrow - a retirement village and caravan park - to be done fortnightly - 3-4 days work each time. Actually a big coup for us and will earn us good money.

Spending the day at Friends. Breakfast on the Deck aka ~ Brecky on the Decky.
Friends live in the foothills, and we stay till after the fireworks this eve in the city: we walk up the street and can see the fireworks in the distance!!

♪♪♪ I Am Australian ♪♪♪
I came from the dream time, from the dusty red soil plains,
I am the ancient heart - the keeper of the flame,
I stood upon the rocky shore, I watched the tall ships come,
For forty thousand years I'd been the first Australian.
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come,
we share a dream,
And sing with one voice,
I am, you are, we are Australian.
I came upon the prison ship bound down by iron chains
I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains.
I'm a settler, I'm a farmer's wife on a dry and barren run
A convict then a free man, I became Australian.
I'm the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road
I'm a child of the depression, I saw the good times come
I'm a bushy, I'm a battler, I am Australian.
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come,
we share a dream,
And sing with one voice,
I am, you are, we are Australian.
I'm a teller of stories, I'm a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira, and I paint the ghostly gums
I am Clancy on his horse, I'm Ned Kelly on the run
I'm the one who waltzed Matilda, I am Australian.
I'm the hot wind from the desert, I'm the black soil of the plains
I'm the mountains and the valleys, I'm the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky, the rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land, I am Australian.
We are one but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come,
we share a dream,
And sing with one voice,
I am, you are, we are Australian.

Rolanda - THAT is my absolute favourite Aussie song and should be our national anthem!! Thanks for printing it. I had it sung by Judith Durham but can't find it now. Have a great day, we're off now.
Gail - payment is supposed to be direct deposit within 2 day of receipt of invoice. Fingers crossed!

CynB those lyrics are by Bruce Woodley ( of the Seekers) and Dobe Newton. Judith Durham would have sung this.. I not long heard ( this morning ) it on the radio, with the Seekers singing it.

Cyn - congrats to Col for the contract! LOVED your Australian smilies...the Timtams of course was my favorite!
Rolanda - I think I remember that you spent last Australia Day with this gang on the deck, right?
Enjoy the fireworks!
Gail - I saw on fb a while back that you claimed Beth as your favorite child...were you coerced? hehehe!
Back from big time shopping and off to pizza and a movie at the neighbor's house. We're bringing dessert.

Another Pride thingy done. Ronald McDonald jumped the queue which meant 2 songs were cut off our girls thingy, one of which was Rolanda's song above! Sigh. They did well on the others though. I am having trouble watching the video of took of Ally singing G'Day G'Day. I hope I can work that out!

I wouldn't want to be the one to explain the meaning of the number 69 on that jewelry. The young boy obviously does know, and would seriously misinterpret the gift.

I'm heading off to bed soon. Tomorrow it's gonna be another slow day. IH will be gone all day. It's supposed to snow again (The cold weather is back), and about the only thing I have to do, besides feeding and watering critters, is to attend a Lion's Club meeting in the evening.

Heidi, I was going to say you could become friends with the Lions Club that sponsors the girls, but you're immune to the charms of fb!

The art gallery Mum helped set up, volunteers at and sells paintings at received an Australia Day Cultural Award! Apparently they held one of those cultural evening things that travel around regional areas and had the highest attendance ever, including at bigger towns like Bendigo...

I just looked up a name. John Harper - Founder of Mate Helping Mate, is an Australia Day Ambassador and it was mum's town's "turn" to have the ambassador visit. Mum was asked to do a thank you painting for him and had her photo taken a million times because of it. The town is so small I wonder if they will get a mention in the Australia Day awards lists?

I might add, I also don't understand the current honours system. It was easier when they either got knighted, or became MBE's or OBE's.
I'm probably the only royalist Labour supporter in Oz.

Last year I looked on the government sites and they explained the different levels of awards. It was very interesting and of course I've forgotten it all this year! They even mentioned how many people had each level of award - which helped them to make sense.

I found the announcement for the art gallery's award. It's Shire level.

Warning! - venting to follow!
Our neighbour (a pilot) has just taken in a boarder who has an 11yo Husky. Since they arrived on Friday, Jewel has taken to barking her head off at the new dog - an intruder into the edges of her territory. We try to keep her quiet by putting barriers on that side, but she can smell the other dog. Today when we got home we got an abusive anonymous note complaining about her barking.
Now I find her barking as annoying as the next person but we are trying to sort this out by getting the 2 dogs together in the hope that will stop Jewel from her aggressiveness.
Had the person signed the note, we could explain this to them in person but the cowards didn't.
Have spoken to the neighbours on both sides who said she never made a noise today at all while we were gone !

Ooooo I hate cowards Cyn! Put up a big sign - if you'd signed your note we'd give a damn, since you didn't, tough!! New fences fixed our barking problem - well it stopped our dogs at least. Perhaps citronella sprayed on that part of the fence? Don't know, just an idea.

The video finally uploaded on that other page so I am off for the evening. Have a great one everyone!

I agree with Suzy, put a note on your letter box saying just what she said, plus telling them why it is happening and that you are in the process of stopping the issue...gutless wonders.

We think it's the people diagonally behind us (ie next door to those right behind us) - they are the noisiest people in the neighbourhood and during the holidays have had umpteen people in their pool every day - our dog goes up in the corner and barks to get their attention. If they had just come to the fence and talked to her she would stop.
These same people have been crossing the fence into our neighbours place and using HIS pool as well.
You're right, if they signed the note we'd give a damn. But I do worry about baiting - it's could happen.
