Lousy night sleep last night, D's snoring & the heat, could've turned the a/c on, but I try not to because of my sinuses.

Talking about back problems, I thought everyone's back always hurt because mine has as far back as I can remember. Then my MIL fell down our stairs Christmas '89 and broke her back. During rehab after her surgery, her back was hurting her and she said she never had pain in her back before. I was so shocked. I surmised that it was because she is very short and didn't have to bend too much to do things. Her back never hurt to do dishes, whereas I can't stand there doing them for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Good morning Suzanne! I would think that the AC would help your sinuses. Our allergies and sinuses suffer greatly until we get the AC units into the windows, then it's much better.

OH DEAR, that heat out west usually comes our way. After 40's low and high 60's highs for 3 days, 94 would be unbearable!

I am taking a break. I found my lifting belt for my back. That is helping a LOT.

Stella I thought I was the only one who at times could not stand washing dishes. heck unloading dishwasher gets me at times. When it was at it's worse, I had a rolling chair in kitchen, my sewing room secretary's chair. Up as high as it could go, I could unload stuff to the counter above, and then stand to put away, MUCH better.

Heck, I read one doc's comments about back pains. He said, just ask any bio-mechanical engineer, our backs are not designed for upright walking! The older we get, the more wear and tear on them, the more back pains. Being shorter might be an advantage. having strong back and abdominal muscles might help. Exercises just for back support muscles is the greatest thing anyone can do to prevent back pain.

My doc suggested CoQ10 to help repair back problems. Said he takes it himself. I saw some improvement using it, I am back sewing, right?

Break time over, back to cutting again, I cut 10 of the 50 or 60 needed! Baby steps here but I am moving forward.

The back is still hurt but not quite as badly. It's gone down from a 9 to a 7, on a scale of 1 to 10. (10 is where I black out)

Broni..... LOVED the so much that I bookmarked it.

Hi All! Just popping by between ffuts around the house. I picked more lilacs yesterday, smell so nice...
Stella: The a/c helps when I have the humidifier on, if that isn't on, I suffer. Where we live it is nice to have the windows open, but, we're in an area that gets VERY windy (60+ mph winds) so at night, if the vertical blinds rattle, I'm awakened.
Heidi: Glad the back is a bit better, I can relate...How are the birds??

Hello Heidi and Suzanne.

I hope this set of finches will have viable eggs and increase your. . . number, is it flock of finches? Heidi, Have you thought of making them an aviary? flight cage? something with more room? Or do they need it?

Stella, lovely colors in your tulip! I would love to dip fabric in those colors, even the background soft ones, and then design a quilt using all of them, really inspires me!

The flight cage for the ones not being bred is 5 feet high, 3 feet wide and 18 inches deep. Each pair that I'm trying to breed has their own breeding cage with nest box. Each of those cages is 2 feet high, 2 feet wide and 3 feet long. Plenty of room for tiny little finches. My dream is to build a large greenhouse onto the south side of the house off my study. I can then put in a good sized aviary in there. But that's a few years down the road.

Morning all!

Lots of sore backs still, and you have reminded me of some things..

Stella, when you said you thought everyone's back hurt, it reminded me that Ebob used to get bad back pains at 14yo. She hurt her rotator cuff so I took her to a physio and while we were there I mentioned her back because I thought it was strange. He stood her with her feet together and said 'look at that' - her knees were almost pointing at each other! A trip to a podiatrist, some orthotics, and her back pain is history.

MizT, talking about strengthening muscles reminded me of something else! When we get a load of wood I can move 3 barrows full before my back starts to hurt. BUT, a few years ago we did aikido for a while. I could move wood all day with no pain while we were doing that! We ended up stopping because it clashed with the kids' sports. I didn't fight too hard as I didn't like the throws or tumbles - they hurt my neck.

Heidi, didn't you say you have the bird cages in the house? You must have a very big house!

Stella, I opened your page to check out the tulip photo and the words 'Oh Wow' came out of my mouth. Kind of embarrassing to talk to myself like that, but that is a beautiful photo!

Good afternoon all. We are getting some much needed rain. As annoying as the rain is, it will help to pull us out of the drought we seem to have been in for years. Gotta go fling food. I will be back later.

Suzy.... I have a tiny house. I never liked the house when we bought the place, but I loved the property. I just figure that some day I'll finally get sick of the house and bulldoze it (like a friend of mine did when she got sick of her house).

Morning lovely people.
Stella - superb tulip!
Broni - stay inside, I'm going to - too wet out on those roads. Yes, I think we'll get some flooding today.
MizT - hope you make good progress on that quilt.
Hello to everyone else - Heidi, Suzy, Tami, Suzanne, Vici etc. Where's Nola this morning? Must be on morning shift - I think it's raining up in Bundy as well.

I have to put my hand up and admit that I am one of the lucky ones without back problems - BUT I always worked in an office and am not sporty. I think the more physical activity you do the more chances of back problems. But I have watched my poor hubby and sister (a nurse) suffer.
Take a look at this video - I reckon this fellow will have severe back problems later in life -

You might be right there, CynB. I broke my back in a freak riding accident when a colt I was training had a duck fly into it's face. If I had lived my life safely in a padded room, I wouldn't have broken it.

Heidi - I don't see you ever having the patience to spend a minute in a padded room! Hehehe. You're right, we all have to take chances. What bad luck - the freak accident. Hope your back pain goes from a 7 to a 1 or 0 ASAP.

Happy Birthday Hayley!

Hope the flooding isn't too bad Broni and Cyn. I heard on the news that because the ground is waterlogged it won't take much, but I thought it was a little south of you. Here's hoping you don't get much!
