Brenda.... I'm sorry to hear about your friend. The human body just can't cope with that sort of compromise. Peritonitis is nasty. It may sound cruel, but I wish it on the doctor who said it was all in her head.

Suzanne I can imagine!!
Brenda I have been trying to source those sites here..I hate good stuff being sent to landfill.
We have a colour TV in the hallway [it works] that I would almost pay someone to take away. It is surplus to requirements...we have 4 TV's which is more than enough for one family...
A friend is having a stall at the local market in a couple of weeks and I'm trying to get together a lot of stuff for that... keep thinking about a garage sale but I don't think that is quite my thing..

Melbourne zoo will be having a birth before Christmas as well.... guess were I'll be spending some time. I used to visit the tiger cubs every week while they were young and watch them grow. I was really upset when one of them drowned.
...and now this little Vegemite is off to bed...

I know that China is a very big country. I know that I know nothing of it's geography. Still, this morning when I read of the riots and the large number of dead and injured, my first thought was OH NO, Rolanda is in China!

Suzanne, I am glad your monitor problem is solved. Who discovered it was unplugged? Do not feel stupid, it happens and everyone is not trained to check for power (plugged in) first thing. that is why it is the first thing on a check list for any electronics or in fact any thing that plugs into the wall, check to see if (machine, appliance, equipment) is plugged into the outlet. Second one is see if the outlet has power (check with meter). It is something I had to remind trained copier technicians, when they would call in to report, this machine is totally dead. You would be surprised at the times they had forgotten to check hehehe, so you should not feel at all stupid, it is easily over looked.

MizT I had the same thought when I heard this morning about the riots in China. Just got to keep fingers crossed that Rolanda and her party are no where hear this area.

Hi there all.
You all talked up a storm in 24hrs.I loved the banter between Bean and Gail.Your friendship sounds very special.
I immediately thought of Rolanda when hearing of the riots in China, like you did MizT.
Not stupid Suzanne.I even got the iron out once when we had a power outage because I was bored not having the tv to watch. Now that is stupid.
June..is'nt that cute that the birds rellies came to check on him!Glad he is now ok.
Brenda..I hope the twins are coping with Mum being ill.It must be a terrible worry for them.
Still sending "get well"vibes to her.
Ohhhhh...more eggs Heidi.Good luck!!

Nola, I have a power outage story also. My Ex was an electrical engineer. He was working late one night, we had a thunder storm come through and zapped our power. I was sitting home with a baby sleeping in her crib so I could not escape to someplace with electricity, and in the dark except for a couple of candles. I called him to see if he might be coming home soon, as I was bored and a bit frightened. He was "not to a stopping point" and you can never guess his suggestion. "Just watch TV till I get there" hehehe.

I have just google mapped and I THINK the riots are in the far west of China and Xi'an is in the east. Sounds like Rolanda is far away from the trouble. I hope.

G'Day, Folks!
Gail, I'm glad to know I didn't miss your announcement about being away. Too frequently I read something that is apparently common knowledge to all but me, and I wonder where my brain went. Sounds like it was essentially a good weekend.
Bean, continued thanks for the China updates (both Rolanda's and yours)! I think maybe I should invite you and Gail to our house for a major go-through and recycle/repurpose. Approximately 6 years ago we said we would bring 1 box up from the basement each week and go through it to decide would could be dispensed with. How many boxes have we done? Get ready for the big announcement! Zero. (I'm ashamed to admit it.)

Julie, we have a pantec out the back filled with boxes that we are going to go through. For some reason there just seems to be more and more boxes going out there... love your avatar by the way.

Hello, Heidi, Gail, Bean, Suzy, Judy, Brenda, Suzanne, MizTricia, Nola, Bobbi, and anyone recently visited who I have missed!
Suzy, you have a SPARE iron????
Brenda, thanks for keeping us updated on your friend. Continued prayers being sent across the pond.
Brenda, can you tell us a little about how freecycle works? I've heard of it, but don't know anyone else who has used it.
And, of course, CRAFTs rears its ugly head! My apologies, as I had many comments (now forgotten).

I know you have spoken before about a pantec. I believe it's some sort of storage area? Guess I better go visit Mr. Google.

Julie, our pantec has had 2 previous lives. In its first it delivered stuff to grocery stores, in its second it was a mobile office for a mining engineer. It was supposed to stay an office when we got it....

I also use Freecycle. I have gotten lots of stuff for my classroom. You are not allowed to sell anything. You can OFFER or put in a WANTED ad. You can also reply to an offer. If I see something I can use, I reply and most people have given it to me over others as I am a teacher. You can reply at anytime but you cannot WANT something until you have put up at least one OFFER. I have not put up an offer yet but I have a lot of stuff to get rid of. I have gotten a bookcase, boxes of magazines, boxes of crayons and other assorted craft supplies.

Julie, Freecycle works quite simply. If you have something which you have finished with but it still has some life left in it, you post on the Freecycle site (you have to be a member). Members either watch the site or have the posts forwarded to their email. If they see anything they think they may have a use for, they reply to the offerer and hope for the best that they are lucky enough to get the item. The winner will arrange a convenient time to collect the item. There are some restrictions on what you can offer, no animals and everything has to be FREE.
