Sending thoughts and wishes for your mum Rolanda... hoping the tests show something that can be dealth with, that the tests themselves are not uncomfortable, and that thoughts sent across cyber pathways help heaps!

I've had a crazy day running around crossing little things off my list. It is a relief to have them done! We took time for Ally and I to have a coffee/hot chocolate together, just the two of us. There isn't enough of that in this busy world. Ebob had a 6 hour shift today. She was a bit glum in the car on the way home. They had wanted to call her in to work yesterday but her number wasn't in the contact book, only in the supervisor's book. She wasn't sad that she missed the shift, she was sad that her number is now in the contact book! She was relieved to hear that she can't work if they call her in tomorrow as she has an appointment with the physio.

Cyn, caring thoughts for your sister, fingers crossed that everything goes well.
Rolanda, hope nothing serious is found in the tests on your mother, hope she is feeling better soon.
Judy, wedding photo's are really lovely hope Laura is ok after her faint.
Broni, you must have worked yourself to a frazzle clearing that area... don't over do it or you might undo all the good that the thingmypath has done.

Evening all!
It's a big few weeks. Between international trips and trips to the hospital or doc every one has a lot to think about, some good some scary. No matter what you are thinking about I am thinking about you too...

For those who need a little distraction - knitters anyway.... Ebob has asked me to make a little jacket to wear with her new dress. Easy peasy she thinks. She has just been told that if I make this thing, she is wearing it, even if it looks like cr@p. Yep, that's how strongly I feel about this thing. It took me an hour to get 8 rows knitted - of the tension check!!!! I need help! No matter how I read the pattern, I will gain stitches on every row. Now since Paton people have done a little bit more knitting than I have, I think I might be the one to blame...

Well if I'm going to ask for help I guess it would have been useful to let you know the problem stitches - duh! I blame an hour of struggling... and no, I'm not asking for sympathy, just letting you know what a twit I am.
Here goes
K2, *yfwd, sl 1, K2tog, psso, yfwd, K1, rep from * to last 3 sts, yfwd, sl 1, K1, psso, K1 (the tension piece has 33 stitches cast on)

OK Zusy I am game,
Knit two stitches, yarn forward, slip one stitch over to the other needle, knit two together, pass the slip stitch over the two knitted together, yarn forward, knit one,
Then repeat this until you have three stitches left
then yarn forward, slip one stitch over to the other needle, knit one, pass the slip stitch over the (knit one) stitch and knit one. Thirty three stitches.
Clear as mud????

All the talk of laundry, I must tell you I can not do any lanudry. I tried yesterday. My washing machine just made a noise at me when I turned it on. One of two things, it died since last I used it, or handyman forgot to connect it to the water. He came in this morning to help Al so i asked him if it were possible he did not connect it. Boy the look on his face, yes it is possible, he did not see the pipes and his young helper had cut out the old in that section, so he just overlooked those for reconnecting to the new pipes!
WHEW , I am glad that is the problem, I did not want to buy a new washer right now.

OH MY, Suzy, I do not read knit! Crochet, yep, and i write it also, or once did, but not knitting, I never got the hang of it really well. I knit one sweater for my then 5 year old daughter, from baby yarn so a LOT of stitches, and she would not wear it! said it was scratchy. Cured me of the knitting bug real fast. that was over 40 years ago! I am glad the others could help you!

Morning all!
Cyn and Rolanda - already thinking and sending wishes and will keep on doing that!
Thank you Broni. I'll try again today. I never made the tension thingy. I am a loose knitter so I just adjust for that up front. With this one I decided to make the tension thingy so Ebob could see what a little bit looked like knitted up before I tried to make the whole thing. Unfortunately she loved it and thinks it will go perfectly with her dress - waaaa! The yarn is slippery and splits easily. Shoulders back, it's her formal, I can do this...

MizT, I bet he was embarassed! That would be funny if you could laugh AND use the sloshy thing! You have reminded me that for the first time in over a week we don't have any rain forecast. Better get the sloshy thing going...
Julie, you have the perfect argument if you want to hang your clothes out - climate change. Contact your local representative and ask her/him to fight for your right to hang your unmentionables out in public!
Suzanne, are you expecting visitors? If you use the sucky thing they will cancel. If you don't use the sucky thing you will have unexpected guests... isn't that the way it works? Does for me everytime...

Good morning all - just a quick visit before I get ready for my long day waiting at the hospital. Thanks for all your kind thoughts and messages which I haven't had time to answer yet. Will let you know how things went when I can get to the computer again - hopefully tonight.
Broni - good interpretation of the pattern. It's amazing, I haven't done any knitting in 20-30 years but it all stays with you.
Rolanda - thinking of your mother today too!

Hi all.
Rolanda, I will be thinking of your mom.
Tricia, welcome back. We all missed you.
A funny one: Last night I joked about being allergic to the hot slidy thing. I use it about once a year. I woke up this morning with a red, itchy eye. I get this occasional. It is an allergic reaction to something and it just affects my eye. I guess that will teach me to joke.

Funny of the day:
A SPANISH Teacher was explaining to her class that in Spanish, unlike English, nouns are designated as either masculine or feminine.
'House' for instance, is feminine: 'la Casa.'
'Pencil,' however, is masculine: 'el lapiz.'
A student asked, 'What gender is 'computer'?'
Instead of giving the answer, the teacher split the class into two groups, male and female, and asked them to decide for themselves whether computer' should be a masculine or a feminine noun.. Each group was asked to give four reasons for its recommendation.
The men's group decided that 'computer' should definitely be of the feminine gender ('la computadora'), because:
1. No one but their creator understands their internal logic;
2. The native language they use to communicate with other computers is incomprehensible to everyone else;
3. Even the smallest mistakes are stored in long term memory for possible later retrieval; and
4. As soon as you make a commitment to one, you find yourself spending half your paycheck on accessories for it.
(THIS GETS BETTER!)
The women's group, however, concluded that computers should be Masculine ('el computador'), because:
1. In order to do anything with them, you have to turn them on;
2. They have a lot of data but still can't think for themselves;
3. They are supposed to help you solve problems, but half the time they ARE the problem; and
4. As soon as you commit to one, you realize that if you had waited a little longer, you could have gotten a better model.
The women won.

I would like to learn to knit one day. My grandmother (mom's mom) was an avid knitter. She made everything. When she died, we found a royal blue baby sweater in her drawer. It was just missing a zipper. My mom and I did not know who she made it for. We both felt that when she was diagnosed with cancer, she made the sweater for her first great grandchild. I was 15 when she died. My mom kept the sweater and when I got pregnant with Mitchell we found someone to put a zipper in it. Both of my boys wore the sweater. I still have the sweater in the closet. I will never get rid of it. I hope it survives for my first grandchild. I do know how to crochet a little but I am not very good, yet.

Back from taking Ebob to the physio - we got good news which I am taking as an omen for everyone else today.
I'll clarify that, Ebob thinks the news is great because she can go straight back to baseball, and she should join a gym to do weight training - which she has wanted to do for ages anyway. I think the news is great as there are no injuries, but a part of me is thinking it would have been nice to have no baseball on the schedule for a while, and where on earth are we going to fit gym???

I told Ally that if she liked knitted and crocheted clothes, knitting and crocheting would be good skills for her to learn. Why, she says, when you can do it for me. What about your kids I ask - you can do it she says. What about your grandkids if I'm not around to do it for them? I guess I'll learn then she says. Hmmmmm.

Tami, I was taught basic stuff when I was a kid. Later in life I wanted to do some stuff that was a bit more complicated so I bought 'teach yourself' books. The only problem with that is I now have to translate all my crochet patterns before I start and make sure I know which country they are from - Australia and the US call the stitches different things!

Positive thoughts & prayers for Cyn's sister & Rolanda's Mum!
Suzy, you are brave to attempt a knitted jacket! (Well, it would be exceptionally brave if it were me, as I have only knitted one scarf (no pattern) in my entire life. Good Luck!
