It was you Judy! You pushed me over the page!
I like the fact that cookbook talks about managing diabetes. Hubby has had a couple of tests that suggest he's heading in the wrong direction so if I can introduce some changes now we might be able to head that off at the pass....

I just heard a scrabbling noise out the back. One of the lawn mowers has come a bit close to the back door and the noise was one of the dogs freaking out and trying to get as far away as possible. I guess the barrier I've got up (combination white tape per June's suggestion, a wheel barrow and a cart thingy) doesn't convince the dogs that they're safe.

Hi all. Just popping in for a minute and haven't had a chance to catch up. Will try and get back later.
We had 9 inches (23 cm) of snow yesterday and our high today was 10 F (-12 C). Tomorrow is supposed to be even colder. Hope someone brings the brass monkey in or he'll be missing the family jewels.
Take care.

Hi, Becky! It's good to see you here. Our high today was 0* F. Our snow total since December is about 39-40 inches, but luckily only a dusting yesterday to today!
Take care!

STILL haven't made it outside, but will have to go soon. It's really too cold outside, very rare for Kentucky.

Judy, that would make a good picture. It reminds me of a children's book: Caps For Sale. The salesman wears many caps piled on his head as he goes from door to door to sell them. Some monkeys see him and steal the caps from him. Fortunately, he's clever and thinks of a way to get them back. When I taught kindergarten, the children enjoyed acting out the story.

I wish I did have those hats now. But they're coming from Canada, and may take over a week.

OH JULIE, I know we had that book, I can see the colorful caps atop a mans head as he walked about. I even remember how he got them back, I think! It was one of my girls favorites and my "girls" are 46, 36, and 28! I had not thought about that book in ages.

I'm getting antsy again. The auction for the Lady Gouldian finches
ends in 1 hour, and I'm the high bidder at a reasonable price. Wish me luck?

A US Airways Airbus with 146 passengers and 5 crew went down in the Hudson River. Reports are that everyone was rescued with only a few injuries. Apparently the plane flew through a flock of geese and lost both engines. The pilot was able to glide the plane down into the river so that the plane did not break apart and was able to "float" so that passengers could be removed.

HEIDI, Al would agree with you, it is just to cold to go outside and work. He had to go out and insulate one outside faucet. It is on the north end of the house and will get that wind later tonight. It has frozen before when it was windy and temps not as low as expected tonight. He came in with hands already red and he was only out there for 10 minuets max. He should have had on gloves.
Well, we have our emergency heat ready now, and just replenished our emergency water supply. Hope we do not need it, but I have kept gallon jugs of water oh hand for a long time. We once lived where the water pipes throughout the neighborhood would rupture often. Any rupture meant the whole community was without water. I have heated Al water on the stove many times for him to shave, and used my "stash" to make coffee. We would be the only people in the neighborhood drinking coffee hehehe.
Only one more "emergency" chore. I will fill a 20 gallon plastic storage container with water for flushing the toilets. Only 0lace to put such a big thing is in the bathtub, so that is an after the shower chore.

I'm surprised nobody died from the pollution in the Hudson. Or that the river didn't catch fire. (like the one in Cleveland did, whose name I forget).

HEIDI< good luck with the auction. I think those are such pretty birds. Would those be house birds, kept in a cage indoors?
I thought of you, your husband's goats, and how you wanted to keep your animals warm. A house in Iowa burned because the owners wanted to keep their goats warm. The goats were in a shed attached to back of house. Owners had put a space heater in shed to keep them warm. goats are believed to have tipped heater over, catching shed and house on fire. Luckily the 3 people in the house escaped without injury cause their cat woke them! Good kitty, bad goats.

SUZY, filling containers with water did not take long. Al took longer getting the heater cleaned and checked but I was not involved in that. Man kind of job, you know.

If there's any way possible for goats to cause chaos and destruction, they will. I seriously hope that they did NOT survive the fire. In my opinion, there is no such thing as a good goat.

I won a pair of the finches!!!!!
I am very much a goat hater. The hatred started the day I bought my brand new truck, and brought it home. I parked it in front of the house and went inside. There were 4 hot fences - 6,000 volts going through each - between the goats and the truck. The goats tore down all 4 fences, screaming the whole time, so they could run their horns up and down the sides of the shiny new truck, utterly destroying the paint job. That's when I started shooting all goats that go through fences.
