Sudoluland!

posting without reading this morning, a couple of pages to catch up.

We have sunshine and wind and very cold temps. At least we have the sunshine, I am happy about that.

Lucky for us, only water to that one bathroom vanity froze last night, both hot and cold water pipes. Rest of house seems OK. I dripped water in kitchen, only a tiny drip, enough to keep water moving and keep it from freezing.

Once before someone asked how hot water could freeze. The water in pipes from the hot water heater to the sink is cold when not in use, it is not moving and if cold wind can get to it, it will freeze. Air is getting to these pipes, they are not inside the insulation under the house. I think it was cut/removed at some time in the distant past to repair pipes. So they freeze if the wind is from the north. this end of house is so close to ground, no one has got under there to install insulation, so it is a continuing problem.

House is also beginning to warm also. With our furnace running full time, temp inside had dropped overnight, it could not keep up. Dropped about 6 degrees, so it was cool, but tolerable. I have an electric space heater here in bedroom on since I got up (would not run one overnight), the sun in shining on one side of the house, and I am boiling a huge pan of water, so it is feeling better in here now, the inside temp is actually rising. the water is because our humidity is so very low outside now we are actually under a fire weather watch. ( extreme low humidity and high wind, 2 components that wildfires thrive upon) Inside heated air is even lower humidity. Weather coverage suggested running humidifiers, but a pan of boiling water adds humidity and WARMTH too hehehe.

Know the one about the water pipes freezing - glad your's wasn't too bad. No chance of that happening here right now - WAY too warm for winter.

She (Beanie) was telling me about a very funny program she watched on TV that would have a hard time getting aired here in the states...too much censorship to allow it on our regular channels.
It was a documentary about - well - I can't mention it here without getting booted off...but suffice to say that it was about comparing sizes

Pansies are such amazing plants. It is still only 19 degrees (-7C) and the flowers that looked so wilted and ruined this morning have lifted their heads and fluffed the wrinkles from their skirts. They are in the full sun, but it still is remarkable ( reason I am remarking here hehe) they can do this. that is why I keep at least one pot of pansies growing over winter, and have for years. Always where I can see them daily. There are about 20 something blooms on them today, best $3 I have spent since last year!

Morning all!
I checked out the article Tami - handsome lad! I have been reading a few articles about teachers losing their jobs to budget cuts all over the US. I wonder what that is doing to class sizes?????

I'm guessing we won't see Bean and Gail here early this morning - pot and kettle up way toooo late! Speaking of which I'm not impressed that I woke at 4 again this morning. I worked at going back to sleep for over an hour and then gave up.

MizT, I'm glad only one pipe froze. If you scan the Aussie news there are a bunch of fires in Oz at the moment. Several out Rolanda's way, though I don't know the towns well enough to know if any of them are anywhere near her! If I knew exactly what towns she lives in and is holidaying in I would google some maps. Instead I am just waiting until she gets back to see if all is okay. Western Australia is a VERY big state so they could be a few hundred miles from her....

That's funny Heidi! Though you're up a bit early for Oz...

Vici, enjoy your massage! You are right about the differences in what is shown on regular television here vs the states. A lot of our shows could only be shown on cable. Hubby and I used to comment on it when we first got here.

MizT, pansies must do better in the cold. If I plant them I have to water them constantly, and since my conscience won't let me do that they don't last long for me at all.

Hi, Stella! Happy 16th Birthday wishes to Bryana!
Yikes, Meghan doesn't have her winter clothes? I have been to Boston in January - and will be later this month! I hope she has warm blood and high metabolism!
Hi, Tami, thanks for letting us know about the link to your son's piccie and the teachers' need for better salaries! (Been there; done that!)
Vici, good luck with work-out, digging, and ENJOY your massage!
MizT, sorry to hear about the frozen water pipe. Hope it thaws without causing any problems! I like the idea of your pansies!
Heidi, how big will your new housebirds be?
Thanks for those who didn't tell about the CSI and Grissom outcome! We were all ready to watch, but the cold weather (?) prevented us from getting television reception last night.

Julie.... these are little finches including tail: 5 inches long.

Tami.... Great article. I've always believed that teachers should be the highest paid people in the country. Pro athletes should be getting minimum wage. NO job is more important than teaching, in my opinion.
