I am SO happy to be back in the 21st century again. My few surviving fish look delighted, too. I lost all but 4 Bettas ( all the ones pictured are gone), and I have a dozen or so surviving Guppies. I cannot believe that many made it. At one point, it got down to 32 F (0 C ) inside the house!!!

Bugger Susan. Just as well you didn't start cleaning up, you'd be kicking yourself now. Instead you can just tear your hair out in frustration and hope the stress levels in your house don't get toooooo high. The groceries will help I'm sure, along with the promise of even more time off school...

You can't win can you Heidi! How are the finches and other birds?

Bean, good idea. I put water out for birds this morning. No koalas near us as the trees are at the other end of the paddock.

Welcome back Heidi, pleased to hear that you had some fish survive.
Susan hope you managed to buy lots of nice things to cheer yourself up with if you do get flooded again.

Well, the disaster isn't over. Apparently, plumbing froze inside the house. When the power came on, stuff from the upstairs bathroom poured through the ceiling of the downstairs bathroom. And I do mean POURED! We just had to turn the water off in the house. The downstairs bathroom ceiling is gone. The bathroom and family room are flooded with water and smelly stuff. What a nasty job.

I found a bunch of my chickens (including Chico) dead a few days ago, and partially eaten. They were in a nice covered pen, with access to a building. I couldn't understand what got them. When I went in to feed them today, I discovered a wild Mink in the pen. It had just killed my rabbit Eric. As soon as it saw me it ran out through a little hole it had dug under the fence. That hole is now plugged. I plan on setting a trap for that little fur coat.

Hello all. Haven't read much so I hope everyone is well and getting over all their disasters.
I have made it to another Friday. I look forward to weekends lately. We have some rented movies to watch tonight. "Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist" and " Lakeview Terrace". Almost time to think about flinging food. Don't know why, I fed them yesterday. They expect too much around here.

Oh Heidi sorry to hear about the loss of your chickens and rabbit. Mink are nasty little creatures.
You would think being without power for that long was enough of a trial without the problems you are now having with bursts. Thinking of you having to sort that problem out.

This week my youngest daughter has had one hour of lessons at school the rest of the week the schools have been shut because of the weather.
My oldest daughter who is a teacher has been into school one day this week. She was on her way there this morning when she got the call to say that the school was closed again today. fortunately she had pulled of the motorway to let some stupid drivers get well ahead of her. If she hadn't been pulled off the road she would have had to drive nearly to school to turn around to come home.

At least we have heat, lights and computers now. I didn't think I'd be lucky enough to come through this unscathed. We spent many days and nights with temperatures hovering close to 0 F ( -18 C ), so that's asking for trouble. The insurance will cover the damages. I'm just happy for what we do have.

I do have a good joke from this, though. FEMA showed up in the area 2 days ago (9th day of the statewide disaster) to distribute food and water. They said that they couldn't help us with generators or anything else. Yesterday they announced on the radio that people weren't to eat the food they dispensed. It was tainted with Salmonella. Our government in action.

The finches are delighted to have their cage uncovered . I had it covered with 4 heavy blankets and a couple of light weight ones. They did survive this!

I am soooo not here but wanted to read the updates....

So sorry about your animals Heidi. I didn't know Minks were nasty - sudoku fact for the day.

Even more sorry about your bathrooms - and still no water.

Brenda, I was reading stories about the snow in the UK this morning - there was an interesting one about snowballs and how things have changed. One big gripe was throwing them at moving cars and nearly causing accidents - apparently a window in your car smashing when an ice ball hits it can be very distracting.

Minks are pure evil. They like to kill for the fun of it. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed that a little Mink could kill a rabbit the size of Eric.

Sounds like human babies - ignore the calendar!

Okay, now I'm off. I've got to go and buy milk and dog food. We're up to 32C already, 99F, so I don't want to. Do you think my singlet top and short shorts will be okay in public???

Another 6 and a bit hours Heidi. Her arm is a bit better today. Unfortunately now that the pain is looking like it's under control frustration is setting in. The cast is so heavy, huge and restrictive she finds everything awkward. Translation - she's not happy!

Been reading pages I missed..... I've got a long way to go yet, but I read where CynB proposed a Page Party on my page while I was incommunicado. I would have LOVED reading all the lunacy inherent in a page party. Too bad it didn't happen.

Hello, Heidi! Welcome back!! I haven't read today's comments, but saw that you were the last to post and wanted to come over and say Hi!

How is everything in your neck of the woods? Are all humans and animals OK? We've missed you and worried about you!

Heidi, glad that you are back and even gladder that you got the TOPP. I think it is a great way to welcome you back.
Suzy, wish Ally luck for me on the singing and tell her that her Auntie Tami said there is not much you can do about the cast and it will be off in a few weeks.
