It's bloody hot Suzy! The light is yellow and stinks of smoke! There is nothing around us for a gisquillion miles but the wind is so strong, it is carrying the smoke from the fires from the north of Melbourne.

Suzy, we got up to 39*c at our front door but it has become windy now and the temp has dropped a couple of degrees. Looks like an easterly so not too bad.(For the NoQ's; Southerly brings our cool change. Northerly for Vic and Westerly for NSW is our HOT winds)
You might be surprised how many people are there tonight Suzy.

Water rising fast - expecting 3 ft inside downstairs this time. Thank goodness I got to go shopping this morning, not that there was a lot left on the shelves. Thankfully also cleaning up after the flood earlier this week, we only hosed and swept out, didn't do the full pressure clean or put stuff back. My washing machine and drier haven't stopped during waking hours. Hubby has had the job all day of meeting the chopper for deliveries to outlying areas. I've never heard so many helicopters!

Gail, would so love to send several million of our spare megalitres of water to all suffering bushfires and smoke.

HEIDI, WELCOME BACK, so glad you have power again. Oh go about and turn on ALL th elights tonight, just cause you can.

Sorry about the flood inside, not a nice thing to happen. I am glad you got a plumber coming out tomorrow, get water back to the house.

Now, we were talking other day, just how did you wash clothes with no water and no power?

Too bqad you did not have your gun when you saw that mink attacking your critters. That is one way to tell it what you thought of him. but a bullet hole in your fur coat?

Would be gratefully appreciated I think Susan...pipeline?
No rain here as yet, but a very eerie coloured light out there at the moment. The sun is trying to poke through the smoke and it causes this weird yellow light.

Susan, thinking of you and hope it does not get to the power this time. Pleased you have lots of clean clothes and some food. My sister was up North Qld. for many years and I know the mould etc that grew everywhere in the wet season so even after you get downstairs clean there will still be the damp and mould in the rest of your living area. My heart goes out to you.

Thanks June. The mildew is already obvious upstairs, and my curtains are all damp. We now have the aircons on heating upstairs, just enough to keep the house dry. The kids aren't greatly impressed, but since they won't be the ones to do most of the cleaning, they're not complaining.

Good night MizTricia!
Just brought the washing in again, all nicely blow-dried! It feels a bit cooler? We also have the strange yellow light (ok, obviously, same sun!) Some rain would be nice - please?

Another post just bit the dust....
It is now 48 degrees at our backdoor...thermometer only goes 50....
I hate the sense of foreboding when the sky gets this awful tinge...at least it isn't glowing orange as it has on some occasions and also it isn't raining ash and cinders like the last big fires...

Oh Bean, not a good day to be without cooling - glad it's working ok, even if you can't get it together properly. The temperature here has dropped quite dramatically - still not "cool" but definitely bearable. No rain though.

Thank you Cyn.
I go to sleep with him singing in my ear and when I wake up I can still hear him singing...different phrases keep echoing around in the vault...will have to put a CD on soon just to change the track!!
Currently the groove I am stuck in is ....
♪♪♪...sincerely LCohen...♪♪♪ ...keeps ringing in my head..
I thought that would have been a great note for him to finish the concert on but he just kept coming back, and back and back....I wanted to scream out no more...I was getting worried because he isn't exactly young anymore!!

Just read on my home page that the heat down south should be the last gasp of summer heat for everyone down there - what a wonderful thought.
Sorry Susan, I could not find such good news for the north. Matter of fact, can't find much news of Nth Qld at all.

That's great Judy - a cooler breeze.
Just spoke to my son who's just arrived back from his trip to Sydney for the 'Top Gear' show taping. He reckons that the public transport system there is worse than ours in Brisbane! And he said it was lovely to get back to our cooler temps. He reckons that at least half the people on the plane had been at the show and that he met a father and son who had flown over on the red-eye from Perth!! Gotta be keen, I say.

Gail, since you're gone I checked your weather to see if it has improved - temp down, winds down (thank goodness, BOM says you had 95kph!), fires getting worse. The forecast says you will get your cool change tomorrow - I hope things improve!

Susan, sorry to hear about the 3 feet - I too hope it stops below the power points! I will try to call tomorrow if you don't get in here to post. Your hubby is either very special or very good at avoiding doing stuff at home - or both! We hear helicopters all the time - down the road from a helicopter training school!

June, it got to 39.4 here too according to BOM. Our thermometer is on the fritz so I can only go by their measurements. It was miserable! I hope your air conditioning was working and the smoke wasn't too bad out your way.

Judy, I got a few loads of washing nicely dried today - they dried in no time at all in the heat! Unfortunately I didn't get them in before we left... They'll probably still be dry in the morning! No breezes here at all.

Bean, I am miserable with 39, I can't even imagine 48! I'm glad your AC is working a little better as from your previous posts I'm guessing it was 38 or there abouts inside! Our fritzy thermometer said it was 34 in our kitchen, but even if it was right we had the room with the AC to hide in. Sending cool drinks by the gallon!!

We had traumas to start with as the outfit we'd finally argued our way to an agreement on wouldn't go over the cast. An ultimatum and we finally got out the door. Once we got there all clothing problems were forgotten and Ally looked excited.

The show was running behind time so we got to watch a few of the other kids perform first. The poor buggers had the sun right in their eyes and came off drenched in sweat. Unbelievably luckily for Alyssa she was the first one who got to sing with the sun blocked by a building! Cooler and she could see!!

I have heard her sing better, but she did well and I was proud of her! To get up there and sing at all is more than I could have done, and to do it with a broken arm is amazing to me!
