I've been trying to find some good news to cheer us all up. The closest I've come so far is an article about the role of electrons in photosynthesis... I know, you don't have to say it...

Turnbull takes cash from market 'vulture'

MALCOLM Turnbull has taken a large campaign donation from an American billionaire closely linked to the predatory lending practices that triggered the subprime lending crisis and global recession.

Yay!

I have a did-you-know...

I can put a video of Ally in an msn shared folder and you can watch her sing - if you don't mind leaving the connection open for the 17 hours it takes to load! (Well, that is an exaggeration, but it was a long time)

TOTAL DISBELIEF!!! [puts it mildly]
Maybe that is how he would fund a bail out for the country...he certainly doesn't like the current governments plans!!!
I've also wondered how far Broni got...I certainly wouldn't want to head south.

Great news Heidi having the all the basics in life, light heat and running water, now life can start to get back to normal... it may take a while but it will get happen.
To my DUG friends the diversity of problems you are all facing is enormous. My thoughts are with you no matter what you are facing right now.

No snow today, temps have been a bit milder through the day but are now freezing again.
D#1 was 25 yesterday, we went shopping to a nearby town and have had an Indian take out for dinner. we have eaten too much but really enjoyed it.
Later we have had a look at some very very old cine films, the kids all had a laugh at mum in her 20s.

Just dropping in with some good news...

Susan is fine. The water didn't get as high as predicted and she has power and dry clothes! She thinks it is starting to go down slowly.

She is very worried about people near the fires and I was able to tell her that I think everyone has checked in (I'm going to assume Broni was nowhere near them!!!!)

Broni should have the smarts to stay away from the fires. I don't think D & D have rubbed off on her.

Sorry Suzy, forgot to mention I have been in contact with Broni today via mobile messages. She sent one asking how we were , told her we were ok etc. She sent back one saying an inlaw relative lives in Kinglake and was ok, lost a few outer buildings but no horses.
She didn't actually mention anything about herself but I assumed she was fine.

Morning lovely SA7 people - I too am saddened by the devastation in Victoria but pleased that our friends (Gail, Bean, Judy) are OK. I did see on easy that Mickey lives very close to one of the fires.
Suzy - Thanks for the update on Susan. I'm glad the water didn't rise enough to affect their power.
Hope Broni and Bella are OK. Eevn if they're not near the fires, the heat in a campervan would be stifling!
As usual to all those affected by severe weather. I feel I will never complain again.

I was pleased to read that Judy/Bendigo was alright yesterday on easy. They have had a lot of fires in and around Bendigo with 1 hundred houses lost.
Must remember to post messages on her's and Mickey's pages.

Suzy - congrats to Ally for singing, give her a hug from me.
Bean - thanks for letting me know about the pic on medium - that one has shown up before on the jigsaw pages.
Heidi - glad you have running water where you should have it. Hope your stress eases as things settle down a bit.

I'm still reading the posts I missed. Just finished the page with the discussion on can openers. Mine is the kind that leaves no sharp edges. I use those only now after having half a finger sewn back on from an accident with a dog food can lid. I can be such a klutz.

Good Evening, wonderful people!

I'm sending positive thoughts and prayers to everyone suffering from the extreme heat and winds, as well as the flooding in Oz.

Positive thoughts going to Brenda, who needs more wool for knitting and an end to the snow.

Heidi, I'm so glad to hear you have running water IN pipes. Also, some good news (and unfortunately some not-so-good news) about animals.

Suzy, good for Ally and her singing!

Mamacita, thanks for your well-stated post!

June, I'm glad Ken is feeling better! Wishing good health to all of your family.

Gail and Bean (I think), wishing cooling thoughts and some rain to you.

Hoping Broni is safe.

Sorry, but the CRAFT's is setting in again.

I hope everyone is well or will be getting well soon!

Hello everyone! Rain here - just a bit, but enough to cool everything down! No good news about the fires - still raging all over the state, with 35 confirmed dead and many missing. The rain we've had isn't enough to end the threat - the state is so dry that it just takes a spark to start another disaster. Our temperatures yesterday were up to 46.4C (115.52F)!! Though the temperatures have dropped the threat is far from over.

Afternoon all. Came back to check on the fires. The Victorian site seems to be down - too many people accessing it?? The news is only getting worse.

Hi SA7'ers. Been catching up on some of the chat. So glad everyone seems to be safe. Had my own drama with the bumpiest flight ever back to Melbourne and landing into gale force variable winds just as the cool change arrived. The pilot did a good job of getting us down safely. The turbulence was due to the updraughts from the fires and we could smell the smoke in the cabin as we flew through it.

I'd tried to get a weather report from my son who was called in on extra duty to the weather bureau. He didn't text me back. Siad today he thought it might freak me out. Oh well. All safe, and he is catching up on his sleep. There are so many people involved trying to mimimise the impact of the fires!

Suzy is not exaggerating too much. It took at least an hour for the video to download. But it was worth the wait. Ally was really cute singing "Rudolph"

Suzy, we have lost most of the TV because the transmitters have been burnt down. The steady rain has transformed into blustery southerly which is having a bad effect on the fires. What was once the flank of the fire has become the front.
