Tami, the internet is still functioning. Now if I lost that I would really be stressing out.

Dino, it must have been terrifying for you driving through that smoke and not knowing how things were going to be at the other end.

Dino, do you still have access to Radio ABC? I know that the ABCFM Gippsland tower is no longer on line.

I can stream ABC through the internet. I had 774 on the radio when driving home from Tullamarine, so knew where the road blocks were. The one on Sth Gippsland highway did not affect me, but the Pakenham ones did. But minor change of route... no great problem.

Just checking in quickly. Good to hear that Heidi has running water. So do I!!!! megalitres of it!
I've spent most of today folding clothes, after running my washer and drier red hot for 2 days. The water won't go down our drains anymore again. That makes everything from cooking to brushing teeth difficult. At least our upstairs toilet still flushes. We can just see the top of our letterbox again, but it's started raining again.
My troubles pale in comparison to Heidi's and Gail's. I hope I haven't left anyone out, but I haven't been able to keep up with reading.

Just thought ... I have running water, but nowhere for it to run to. It'd be funny if it wasn't so unfunny.
I just realised that our aircons have a dehumidifying function which doesn't alter the temperature, so they're running 24/7. Mildew was starting to appear everywhere, but this will keep it down.

I just deleted a comment before I posted it. It was a couple of lines from the news that makes everything that has happened in my life to date seem trivial and small. I know I should be thinking grateful thoughts for how very lucky I am, but that will have to wait. I can't do it right now.

I felt sick watching the news. Unless you have been near a fire raging through tall gum trees you cannot imagine the noise and terror. In seconds it changes direction.Prayers to all the poor buggers caught up in the fires.
We were lucky that it was not as hot today(35*c) as yesterday (39*c). Still rather warm though.

The death toll has reached 66 and is expected to rise. I have moved from the emotional black hole to being able to be so glad that I am so lucky to have my wonderful family. Thoughts and wishes to all of the people who are affected, both directly and indirectly through friends and family...

Evening SA7.
What a sad sad day. I have just got up to speed with the fires.
I had to get hubby to take me to emergency on Friday arvo, I had the worst migraine and vomiting and diarrhoea I have ever had.
It may be the thryroid tablet causing the headaches as since I went on the whole tablet a day not a day went by without a headache.
It came to a head and how.
Anyhow off to the docs tomorrow morning for a discussion.
Also had a CT scan and two areas of calcification showed up in my brain. Nothing to worry about they did not think, said it has been there a while. Have to make a neurologist appt. just to be sure.
Anyhow that is such a trivial thing in what is going on in other peoples lives and I thank god we do not have the fires here.

The death toll from Victoria's bushfires has risen to at least 76, police say.
The revised death toll makes the Victorian bushfires the worst in Australian history.
The Black Friday blaze in 1939 claimed 71 lives, while the 1983 Ash Wednesday fires had a death toll of 75.

Okay, when calcification in the brain becomes 'trivial' it is time to refocus... Not trivial Viv!

Well the ER docs said they thought it was nothing to worry about Suzy. I will get it checked out though thats for sure.
I have not done much since Friday I can tell you.
Getting over all the drugs they pumped into me.
But I am doing two loads of washing now so I must be better. LOL
Seriously, I am just so happy to not have a headache.
Do you have any fires near you Suzy?

None near me Viv. Having dealt with ER docs a few times, I'd wait for the specialists to tell me that there is nothing to worry about. But that's beside the point. It's scary to find out something like that. I'm glad that you shared it even with the awful stuff that is happening around the world. What happens to us as individuals is important, even if it doesn't seem so when compared to the big scale stuff. Sending hugs...

84 deaths now Including Brian Naylor and his wife. I still think Brian was the best "Carols by Candlelight" host. I was disappointed when they replaced him with Ray Martin some years ago. Almost too hard to look at the news.

3 hours without checking and the death toll has gone from 50 - as it was on the news - to 84 and more than 700 homes destroyed. I am sick, sad and stunned. There's no more words to say.
Viv - I do hope the docs will sort out your health problem quickly and successfully.

The absolute complete total worst part of all of this....
"Firebugs are being blamed for several blazes that continue to ravage the state, the Country Fire Authority says, confirming fires are being deliberately relit."

June - I hadn't heard about Brian Naylor and when I did a search I couldn't find anything yet BUT I did find that his son died in an ultra-light crash last year (at Kinglake). What a horrific double/triple tragedy for the rest of the family. We didn't see much of him up here in Qld but I do remember him.

Suzy - Why or how would anyone get a kick out of lighting fires and killing people, destroying countless lives not to mention the wildlife toll?
It's murder - no other word for it!
And, as a smoker myself, I just want to say that I do not smoke in my car and, when I did years ago, I didn't toss butts out of the window. But you still see people doing it.
