Geez Cyn, you must get different TV stations to me! I've got a couple of stations full time on the US Elections!

Try http://edition.cnn.com/ or http://abcnews.go.com/.

Heidi think you should have found a way to vote more than once!

The president is elected by the electoral college. Whoever gets to 270 wins (that is 1 more than half) The count currently stands:
Obama 175 and McCain 76.

I think Todd is a nice name for a girl. My mom once told me if I was a boy that would have been my name. I could have been "Todd the Troublemaker"

With half of Florida's votes counted, Obama has 51% and McCain has 48%. It is going to be close here.

Thank you, CynB and Tami, for the welcome! It's SOOO good to be back! So far I haven't turned on the TV. This election has divided our family. (Son-in-law has corrupted daughter.) It will be "wait-and-see" for the results of the voting - and for the changes to come from whoever will be our new president. And now, back to reading the posts I missed.

Julie, I hope it doesn't tear your family apart. I was watching Rudy Guliani earlier who said that tomorrow we all go back to being Americans and need to support our president. I hope that works for your family.

All Obama needs to win now is Florida and California, and he is our next President. He has the lead in quite a few other states as well.

CynB, if you are interested, when you go to the website, if you click on Florida it will break it down by county. I live in Broward county. It is on the southeast side, just above Miami. I have been having fun scrolling over the different states to see what is happening.

Heidi, he is leading in Florida, but barely. It is currently 51% Obama, and 48% McCain.

He is expected to win California, and most of the west coast. My fingers are crossed for Florida. It has become pivotal. IF He wins it, he should win enough electoral votes to win, without having to worry about any states but CA.

Looking even better. Now all he needs to win is California and either Florida, Virginia OR North Carolina. He has the lead in all of them.

One thing I've always found fascinating is the way the news stations project who will win what state when only a few % of the votes have been counted. They get it wrong sometimes, but more often they get it right!

The one person one vote count is a lot closer than the electoral college... but didn't Bush win with fewer votes?

Hope all of you in America vote in the right person, sometimes I think who you vote in has more effect on Oz then who we vote in

everyone.

Suzy, a candidate can win the popular vote, but still lose in the electoral college and vice-versa. The electors do not have to vote the way the populace did, tho for the most part they do.

The Electoral College is a state- winner-takes-all vote. The majority of voters in Kentucky voted for McCain, so he got all 8 of Kentucky's electoral votes. Obama just won the popular vote in Virginia, so he gets all of Virginias (15?) electoral votes. It's a silly way to run an election. I would prefer that ALL votes get counted equally.

Just popped over to catch up on the vote. I still refuse to turn on the TV. (My comment earlier about son-in-law corrupting daughter's thought patterns does NOT indicate any other negatives about him. But he has convinced her that they will lose their house because taxes will spiral upward if Obama wins. Oh - to prove him wrong!)
