I just realized I haven't changed my avatar since returning to the computer after a week. Luckily, it isn't specifically for Halloween and could still pass for autumn or harvest related.

vdV, I hate the exit poles. Also, I don't think that they should broadcast "results" of other states until all votes are in.

Hi, vdV! I hope all is well with your family. Luckily someone else explained exit polls to you. I'm still too worried about SIL's reaction to the outcome of this election.

At least this time they projected no winners of any states until MOST of the polls closed. The people in Alaska and Hawaii were still voting. I remember elections when they were projecting the winner while half the states were still voting. THAT was wrong. It affected the way people voted or didn't vote.

Heidi, you must have been watching a different channel than me. Hubby and I watched about the first 15 minutes and they were projecting about 20 states.

What a gracious concession speech by McCain!
Now to go back in front of the TV for Obama's acceptance speech.

vdV, that's why I don't like them. I know some people who don't want to vote for the loser, so will watch a broadcast before going to vote. Before an election we try to read everything, pro and con, about each candidate and then make a decision.

Becky, that's the way hubby and I try to prepare for an election. We were able to vote early in Illinois, so did about 2 weeks ago. Today was a travel day for us, and we didn't want to run the risk of a delayed flight preventing us from voting.

I wish they would divulge nothing until ALL the polling places were closed. Yes, those of us in the eastern time zone would have to wait for hours for any results, but it would be fair to all.

Julie, we had the option of an absentee ballot or early voting. Early voting didn't start until this past weekend here and they only had one polling place open. Some people stood in line for over 9 hours. Told hubby that I wanted to wait until election day. You just don't know what will happen.

While walking down the street one day a US senator is tragically hit by a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the man.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with
him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, Shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting Rich at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

"Now it's time to visit heaven."

So, 24 hours pass with the senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing.

They have agood time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you 've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would Never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. "I don't understand," stammers the senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, "Yesterday we were ca

vdV, yes, sometimes I feel like we're choosing the lesser of 2 evils. I've become tainted when it comes to politics. It just seems like they're all out to line their pockets and everyone else be damned.

I'm hoping that some things are changed between now the next presidential election (ie. campaign funds, voter registration).

We actually had a friend of ours run for state senator. He's a farmer that we've known for years. He just won by a landslide, too. I know him to be a good, honest hard working guy, and am delighted. Even though he ran on the Republican ticket, I donated money towards his campaign.
