Greetings, Everyone!

Great TOPP, Heidi! So sorry none of us was around when you posted earlier.

Suzy, Dana made a good decision when she followed through with Isobel - very creative, too!

Congrats on the first calves of the season, Heidi!

June, I hope you're feeling well and relaxing a bit after finishing this round of treatments!

And I'm off to bed. Sending many {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts, prayers, and much and healing energy!

Heidi, sorry I was not around. Still suffering side effects of the treatment and as it will continue to work for several weeks so will some of the side effects. (nausea and diarrhoea) I still get very tired and sleep a lot.

Heidi, great news about all the calves. You also sound more relaxed and I guess a good result from the epidural also helps.
Suzy, you are enjoying your grandies and all they get up to. Good on Dana in going through with her threat.
Good top Heidi.

Just saw this on the other site and, since I think it will stick in my head worse than it's a small world, I thought I'd share it with you.

I was worried that my talk of cows chased everyone away. They're not everyone's ''thing'', you know.

Off to do a cow check. It's starting to rain, but my 4 wheeler/ UTV has a top.

I hadn't realized that you will be having chemo side effects for weeks yet. What a pain! I hope they ease up quickly. And, as Suzy said, I hope they're worth it.

And Suzy.... Dana is turning into a wise mother.

No calves born overnight or this morning, and none in labor. It looks like there won't be more until tomorrow. I will check them again late afternoon.

I agree, DOrA. That's the bottom line for cattle producers. Every little calf born will result in a LOT of great beef for people to eat.

Heidi, I enjoy hearing about the cows, and the dogs, and the birds.

Dana has been a wise mother for a long time, which is why Tahli is doing so well. She has had early intervention from the moment she qualified. Other parents are waiting years for diagnosis, she got an early one of developmentally delayed, then the full diagnosis within 18 months. I don't know how she managed it! Of course, I nearly killed her when she first had Tahli. She sat on the lounge and waited for everything to come to her. Even dirty diapers didn't get picked up unless I did it. We get along a lot better when she doesn't live here. She does better when she has to rely on herself.

Two new calves to tag.... one of each. All babies and moms are doing great in this ideal calving weather. The heifer calf is out of one of my favorite registered cows: Sweetness. Dad is Duke.

Suzy, we would call your 'show' our county or state fair. County is not as large, state Fair is pretty big. One can enter their prize pig, best jars of jam or jelly, quilt, other home sewn items, flowers, produce, livestock for judging and blue ribbon prizes. Youngsters in many states, through the 4 H program, raise calves, pigs, sheet, whatever, and show and sell at the fair. Plus the 'midway' with the rides and the side shows, often musical entertainment, auto races so much more. Al took me to the fair on our first date. we met just to get a hamburger for dinner, fair was across street, we went. He won me small teddy bears on the midway, pitching nickles, knocking over bowling pins with a baseball. He knew the 'tricks, his dad had been a
'carney man' before he married, back in the 30's.

Suzy, about the fires, I saw there were other ranchers donating and delivering big truckloads of hay to the burned out areas. For any animals that survived. No waiting around for the government to decide what was needed, just get it done NOW. I think that is wonderful!

Heidi, there must be a really strong (as uncut) batch of heroine in Louisville. Like Suzy, asking if they are fatal overdoses or are they getting help in time. Do first responders in Louisville have the Narcan or similar for treating overdoses? When they carry that, it saves many lives. Sometimes I wonder if all those lives are worth saving, so they can go do it again.

June, best of luck with the 4 weeks away scheduled CAT scan. Enjoy your 4 weeks without treatment.

Suzy, when is surgery scheduled for hubby?

My headaches are back. Every time I use my right arm, reaching or raising above my head, pain shoots up my head. this weekend had the worse migraine I have had in decades. Luckily I was able to 'think my hands warm' and got it to subside. then I slept most of the afternoon. No longer than it lasted, after it was gone, it felt as if someone took out my brain and played basket ball with it. Call that the bruised brain feeling. fortunately, insurance has approved the epidural, at last, and cervical epidural scheduled for Thursday. Hope it is a cure, not the cause of more headaches.

No more time to catch up, Still a page behind. Huge hugs to each of you, with extras.

I think there have been few, if any fatalities in this OD epidemic. The EMS guys and ER Docs have been on top of it.

MizT... my heart bleeds for you. Migraines take so much out of you... they're horrible when going through, and take forever to recover from the beaten & bruised feeling. Good luck with the epidural. Discuss the headaches with the pain management Doc before the epidural. He may be able to do something to prevent the headache this time.

No more calves last night or this morning, though a couple of cows look like they're gonna pop any minute.

Julie, It was chicken w/ veggies - no recipe - just threw stuff in. Chicken was good. Veggies turned to mush. Mixed with rice it was kind of a gruel. The flavor was kind of OK, but the texture was like strained baby food...

I won't repeat that one.........

MizT, your fairs and our shows sound very similar. Except for 4H program read farmers' kids. There are lots of farms down this way. We don't go every year, it's expensive and right after Xmas between Isobel and Dana's birthdays. Tahli's birthday is tomorrow. We've bought her a quarter size guitar. A bit of a splurge, but with the spectrum thing we thought it might help. And she asked for one.

Heidi, I'm glad the overdoses have been mostly, or completely, non fatal. There is always a chance they will get to the point where they will accept help and make better lives for themselves.

Sauceless pasta for dinner here tonight. I can't eat/don't like tomato based sauces anymore so hubby cooks it for me with meat, chili and a few other spices. It's yummy though it makes my mouth tingle.

Going to Melbourne Sat/Sun to see Kyle (grandson) play baseball in his grand final. Will take the No Gas tablets so that I do not upset the other passengers on the plane!!!

Another cow is in labor. She didn't want me sitting there watching her, so I came back inside and will check on her (and probably tag her newborn) in half an hour. She's in the shed by herself (I just fed hay to the herd) so she has no distractions.

Heidi, I enjoy your 'cow talk'. It is nice to know what is going on your world. that goes for each of you that visit here, too. And if ever someone posts something I am not interested in, can always just scroll on by, but do not remember ever doing that. I am afraid I will miss something hehehe.

DORA, what is the problem with 'being confined with' your slow cooker? Get too hungry from the great smells that fill your kitchen? I have never been a slow cooker kind of girl. I prefer being fast. I have always used my pressure cooker for those one pot meals. Many of my recipes are cooked in 15 minuets in it. I too would like to know what you were cooking. Just read your reply, about how the meal turned out. It might help to wait to add vegetables later, after the chicken is almost cooked, so they do not turn to mush.

June, The NO GAS pills are a blessing, aren't they? Some of us get gassy just from old age . I hope you enjoy your trip to see grandson play. Do you have anything to take to reduce the nausea? Peppermint and ginger are both good natural anti-nausea treatments, can be ginger tea, ginger ale, Mint tea or candy.

I am off to straighten a bit so my housekeeper can clean. Just finish up dishes and put away, de clutter desk and chair side table. I already have sorted the laundry. Yes, she could sort, but I have a couple of things that really fade, and want to be sure they do not get in with light colored clothing.

Today is a few degrees cooler, cloudy with rain showers in the forecast. we have not had any, perhaps I should go out and water containers, that might bring on the rain. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

The cow had a nice bull calf. I got back outside just as she got to her feet after delivering him.... still inside the sac. A quick check between the legs, a quick snap of the tagger in the right ear, and I left her to lick him dry and bond with him. She was gently talking to him while licking as I left them alone. The cows know I would never hurt their newborn babies. Mama just stood there calmly while I did my job. I could have scritched her behind the ears, but I just wanted to leave them alone as quickly as I could.

I like to be there as they deliver, if possible. I remember freaking out Gil once. I was present as the cow was delivering, and she was tired out after a long labor. It was a biggish calf. So when the calf was most of the way out (back legs still inside), and mama rested, I could see that it was a boy, so I snapped the tag in the right ear and went back in the house. At the same tine as I rounded the corner of the barn out of sight of the driveway, Gil drove up and saw the cow getting to her feet and the calf falling the rest of the way out. He rushed into the house to get the ear tagger, yelled to me that there was a newborn calf, rushed back out to the pasture to tag the calf and found it already had a tag in it. He could not figure out how that calf was born with an ear tag already in it's ear.... since he had seen it being born.

Yes, I explained it to him. He was constantly complaining that every time he saw me I was either sitting in front of the computer or laying in bed. He found it hard to comprehend that I was on top of everything. Just because I take frequent breaks doesn't mean that I don't check animals often and regularly. With the cows, I don't just check for newborn calves. I also check for cows in labor and check for cows that are bagging up prior to going in labor. So at any point, I have an idea when someone is likely to calve or if I don't need to check them for a while. It's called managing the cattle efficiently.

Anecdote: a mother at Tahli's preschool asked Dana how she had got permission to hold Tahli back a year. Huh? Says Dana. You know, she'll be 7 in kindergarten. She's not 5 yet says Dana. Tahli is quite tall and people think she is 6. She turns 5 today!

June, I'm sorry to hear that the side effects are still bad! You visit to Melbourne sounds like fun. I love Melbourne!
