Heidi, so glad I could help with your menu options for dinner Was your dinner as good as mine?

Suzy, cooking a pork tenderloin roast is so easy. Rub on your seasonings, I used rosemary and garlic, put it into an open oven proof pan, and bake at 350*F for 45 to 60 min. If you do not have a meat thermometer to check the meat, just cut into the roast at thickest to see if it is still leaking pink juices. If it is, put back for another 10 minuets, then check again till juices run clear. then slice and serve. You can put veg in with the roast, onions, carrots and apples are good. Do you have a slow cooker? that would be the easiest way for you to learn to cook. there are wonderful slow cooker recipes, for any meat you want, most often with veg cooked in. there are even lessons on how to cut and freeze a large number of meals at once, so all you have to do each day thereafter is get out the bag, put into the cooker, and magically, a few hours later, dinner is ready. Maybe you could get one of your daughters to help. I KNOW you can read and follow directions, being both an engineer and a teacher!

OK, posting this before turning the page. I do hope hubby soon becomes accustomed to is pain medication, so he can concentrate while taking it. And, it is best to give him his medication on time, to keep pain away, much easier than trying to relieve pain once it is present.

The directions I used for cooking my DELICIOUS pork tenderloin roast was 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes per pound. I used 35 minutes per pound, and no meat thermometer, and it turned out perfectly.

My health insurance is good to go. Without me asking, my insurance agent had gotten on the ball as soon as he got a copy of the letter telling me I had been denied coverage.... and when I talked to him a little while ago it was all straightened out and I have health insurance again!!!! I thanked him profusely. I think I also need to thank him by delivering a fruit basket to the office. I was thinking baked goods, but fruit is healthier.

Suzy, ACA is / was part of the problem. Many insurance companies 'closed their doors' in some areas because it was no longer economically feasible to do business there...

My crock pot chicken & veggie was kind of a let down. It was good, just not what I was expecting. It was on the 'bland' side. An experienced cook would have known, by looking at the recipe, that more spices were in order.

I've gotten the house stocked up with food and drinks for me and all the critters to last a while. I can rest up tomorrow and have the epidural on Monday. I just hope the doc will do it despite this sinus infection.

Suzy, I worry about you both. You have been through so much and more to come.
It was hot today. I got out early to start painting. Up the ladder (Ken had gone out) and started to feel that it was hot and I had done enough. Found it was 33*c. Had a rest with the AC on then put the fan in the laundry and finished the first undercoat inside. Because I am going from brown to white inside and cream outside I needs at least two undercoats. It did get to 40*c outside today but I spent the afternoon resting.

Heidi, hope that you feel better on Monday and can have the much needed Epidural. How will you get to and from the appointment?
Julie, Tricia and others with health or other issues, lots of hugs.
I have enjoyed my weekend with no treatments. Never look forward to starting over on Mondays. Only 9 more to go!

Debbie is lending me her son Casey for a driver. She has a doctor's appointment at the same time (at a different hospital) so she can't drive me. I know Casey is a good driver 'cause I taught him myself 9 years ago.

My excitement for the day was watching the kids while Dana had tooth X-rays. I also ran around like a chook with its head cut off gathering supplies for animals, including the human ones.

Tomorrow morning I will watch the kids while Dana hopefully has a wisdom tooth extracted. It luckily coincides with story time at the library so we'll start there and see what happens.

Tomorrow afternoon I will go with hubby to see the specialist.

Wednesday I'm taking myself to the doc so I can get well enough to take better care of hubby.

My life is now all about doc visits!

Hi, Everyone!

June, it's nice to hear that you're feeling well enough to do some painting. It's even better to hear that you are listening to your body and taking well-earned breaks as needed. Hopefully the weekend was rejuvenating. Thinking of you as you begin the next week of treatments! {{{HUGS}}}

Heidi, hoping you can have the epidural and it works its magic. Thankfully you can now go home and rest, something you couldn't do easily with IH in the picture. Save driving/riding to you and Casey!

Suzy, how well I understand the many doctor visits! It's a good week when we have fewer than 3 or 4 appointments! Hopefully story time at the library will help keep 3 little one happy and entertained!

Thinking of everyone and sending lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , prayers, positive thoughts, and healing energy!

I'm off to bed. We have an early alarm set, as we both have dental hygiene appointments in the morning. In the afternoon we'll head to the podiatrist to check on the toe that was broken on Jan. 10. It is still pink, sore, and swollen. I just want to be sure it's healing properly.

Good Night, Everyone!

I leave in 15 minutes for my epidural.
I REALLY hope it's a bad one this time. I need to be able to walk more than 100 feet without pain hitting.... which is my status right now. Hopefully, when I get home I'm going to want to go straight to bed instead of checking in here.

Hope it really, really sucks Heidi!

June, up a ladder with nobody else home? Nag nag... it's good to hear you feel up to it though.

I've had a tiring, stressful, and wonderful morning. It's raining (yay!) so I picked up Dana and the kids, took Tahli to preschool, dropped Dana at the dentist and headed to the library with the two younguns. There is a coffee bar in the foyer so I had a coffee and they had baby cinos while we waited for the library to open. Then we read books and climbed on padded stools until story time started. Then Daniel practically sat on the woman reading while Isobel hid in book shelves at the back. Then they coloured bookmarks. Then I took them all home. Now I'm home and I'm going to relax a while before I pick up Tahli from school. Then it's off to hubby's appt.

Hubby's appt went well. It's still scary, but somehow having an action plan helps. Of course he's going to be run off his feet getting all the tests they want done. The doctor was reassuring but doesn't want delays either.

Tomorrow is another hectic day. Tahli has a half day school prep thing aimed at kids with problems, I don't think it's only autism. Problem is, it's over the bridge and rain is forecast. I'll be driving them. I'm supposed to help Dana with her shopping after that, but it will be a squeeze because I see my gp at 2. Then I will relax.

Suzy, we got about half the rain they got in the City. Hubby works at Bondi on Tuesday. Got half way there and the roads were flooded so he came home. Your day was busy. Take care of yourself. You will feel much better now that things are happening with your Hubby. They will move quickly.
No word from Heidi, so hope that she is sleeping off the Epidural and that it was a good one.

Hi my friends.
Zusy, sorry to hear about the cancer.
Just found out a girlfriend was diagnosed with lung cancer last November, she has finished treatment but won't get the results until March.
June countdown for your treatments, hope you are still feeling OK.
Heidi, Peter had an epidural yesterday, I don't know what to make of it. He made them stop when he couldn't feel his legs. Now we have most of Pete's appointments out of the way, I will start on mine.
Hope you all are well and happy.

An email, I got a while back.........

WORDS AND PHRASES REMIND US OF THE WAY WE WORD.

by Richard Lederer

About a month ago, I illuminated some old expressions that have become obsolete because of the inexorable march of technology. These phrases included 'Don’t touch that dial,' 'Carbon copy,' 'You sound like a broken record' and 'Hung out to dry.' A bevy of readers have asked me to shine light on more faded words and expressions, and I am happy to oblige:

Back in the olden days we had a lot of moxie. We’d put on our best bib and tucker and straighten up and fly right. Hubba-hubba! We’d cut a rug in some juke joint and then go necking and petting and smooching and spooning and billing and cooing and pitching woo in hot rods and jalopies in some passion pit or lovers’ lane. Heavens to Betsy! Gee whillikers! Jumpin’ Jehoshaphat! Holy moley! We were in like Flynn and living the life of Riley, and even a regular guy couldn’t accuse us of being a knucklehead, a nincompoop or a pill. Not for all the tea in China !

Back in the olden days, life used to be swell, but when’s the last time anything was swell? Swell has gone the way of beehives, pageboys and the D.A.; of spats, knickers, fedoras, poodle skirts, saddle shoes and pedal pushers. Oh, my aching back. Kilroy was here, but he isn’t anymore.

Like Washington Irving’s Rip Van Winkle and Kurt Vonnegut’s Billy Pilgrim, we have become unstuck in time. We wake up from what surely has been just a short nap, and before we can say, “I’ll be a monkey’s uncle!” or “This is a fine kettle of fish!” we discover that the words we grew up with, the words that seemed omnipresent as oxygen, have vanished with scarcely a notice from our tongues and our pens and our keyboards.

Poof, poof, poof go the words of our youth, the words we’ve left behind. We blink, and they’re gone, evanesced from the landscape and wordscape of our perception, like Mickey Mouse wristwatches, hula hoops, skate keys, candy cigarettes, little wax bottles of colored sugar water and an organ grinder’s monkey.

Pt II

Where have all those phrases gone? Long time passing. Where have all those phrases gone? Long time ago: Pshaw. The milkman did it. Think about the starving Armenians. Bigger than a bread box. Banned in Boston . The very idea! It’s your nickel. Don’t forget to pull the chain. Knee high to a grasshopper. Turn-of-the-century. Iron curtain. Domino theory. Fail safe. Civil defense. Fiddlesticks! You look like the wreck of the Hesperus. Cooties. Going like sixty. I’ll see you in the funny papers. Don’t take any wooden nickels. Heavens to Murgatroyd! And awa-a-ay we go!

Oh, my stars and garters! It turns out there are more of these lost words and expressions than Carter had liver pills. This can be disturbing stuff, this winking out of the words of our youth, these words that lodge in our heart’s deep core. But just as one never steps into the same river twice, one cannot step into the same language twice. Even as one enters, words are swept downstream into the past, forever making a different river.

We of a certain age have been blessed to live in changeful times. For a child each new word is like a shiny toy, a toy that has no age. We at the other end of the chronological arc have the advantage of remembering there are words that once did not exist and there were words that once strutted their hour upon the earthly stage and now are heard no more, except in our collective memory. It’s one of the greatest advantages of aging. We can have archaic and eat it, too.

See ‘ya later, alligator!

Lol DorA, some of the expressions are different here, but lots are the same. My grandmother used to say stop your laughing when we cried. There was also shut your pie/cake hole. I never hear struth anymore. Crikey seemed to vanish with Steve Irwin.

Tahli had her first day at big school today. She didn't seem terribly excited by it. This is a part of determining if she'll be able to be mainstreamed. It's looking a lot better than last year, but it's good she has another year to prepare.

I went to my doc and got antibiotics for diverticulitis, which I will fill tomorrow because I'm too buggered to do it today. Nearly fell over trying to get off the bed in the docs office. But it is all good.

Dropping in to say 'here I is'. It is still unseasonably warm, and lots of rain, T storms. My daffodils are poking up green shoots. they are over-planted with pansies, one container is yellow, the other purple. both will go nicely with daffodil yellow.

My housekeeper was here yesterday, nice to know the entire apartment is clean at one time. that is one thing I can no longer do. would be a room a day at best, for me now. How unhappy that makes me.

Today is scrabble, We plan on ordering in a pizza to share. I mentioned this to Mary Monday, and she was all for it. A pizza is just to large for one, so we order it together and a large is just right split 4 ways.

Suzy, good to know there is a plan for hubby, and that having the lan is helping both of you cope better. glad the pain is less, too. Huge gentle hugs to the whole family. did you cook your roast yet? How did it turn out?

Warm, muggy with 91% humidity, cloudy. Not my favorite kind of day. I need to check downstairs for a package, have ordered my Miralax on line, generic and far cheaper than buying locally. With pain medication, Miralax is a necessity.

Hope Heidi is recovering from her epidural, with much less pain and lots of sleep.

Hugs to each of you, with extras.

So I'm supposed to take my antibiotics with food. Three times a day. At the moment I've been able to eat one small meal a day. I'm not sure if it's worrying about hubby or the diverticulitis. I decided to kind of cheat and bought a packet of hot cross buns. A bun seems to be enough to stop me from feeling ill after taking the pills so I hope that's enough. And it's yummy!

Hi, Everyone!

Suzy, I'm glad your hubby's appt. went well and you now have a plan in place! Somehow, it's easier to deal with and a bit less scary when you know what can be done and when. Sending prayers for a successful treatment! Good news that you had some rain, but so sorry the weekend temperatures will again be so high! Although Tahli wasn't excited about the first day of school, at least she apparently went willingly, A change of routine or school can be pretty difficult. I hope your antibiotics prescription heals the diverticulitis quickly! Even after you finish the prescription, you should probably find a way to eat 3 meals a day, even if they're small, and drink plenty of fluid! Remember to take care of you!

June, I hope your treatments this week are going well and without too many side-effects!

Broni, I'm so glad most of Pete's appointments are finished. Good luck when you start yours!

DOrA, thanks for sharing the Richard Lederer article about words. There were quite a few familiar words and phrases. I must admit that I really haven't thought much about words that are no longer in use. 'In a while, crocodile.'

MizT, Scrabble and pizza sounds like a great afternoon! I'm glad your housekeeper seems to be working out and helps give you peace of mine to have the entire apartment clean at once! Hoping the temperatures moderate a bit - seem to warm for February.

Hoping Heidi had a really good epidural and is now getting some well-deserved rest!

Speaking of rest, I do believe it's past time to head to bed. Sending healing energy, , prayers, positive thoughts, and {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

Suzy, I do think your buns will be enough with your antibiotics. when I worked hospital, we gave a small packet of saltine crackers or graham crackers, about 4 small squares, when a medication was to be 'with food' and it did not coincide with mealtime.

After a week of late spring type temps, it is winter again today. Low this early AM was at 0*C 32*F and will be cold all day. Tomorrow back to spring. Perhaps these dips to freezing temps will be enough to retard some early flowering plants to wait a bit longer before opening buds.

Enjoyed scrabble yesterday. I won the first game, kept getting really high scoring letters and found good places to play them . I was at the bottom of the heap game 2. We ordered pizza, and enjoyed sharing an early dinner together.

I keep checking in to see if Heidi has posted. Hope all is well, and she is resting after a really ouchy epidural.

off to eat my breakfast now, hugs to each of you with extras, till later.

I'm baaaaaack!!

The epidural was a humdinger... if not the worst ever, then in the top 3. The pain levels are way down now. After a few days of not daring to do anything afterwards but lay down and rest, I discovered that I had no internet or phone service. Gil had taken the bills out of the mailbox again and hidden them from me, so the service was shut off. I had to wait until I could drive to go get the service turned back on.

Now to read all the posts I missed.

While there he will p in a jar, one of 3 days in a row, drop that off at the collection place, has to be done promptly, old p want do. Then he has a CT scan. Luckily this is a small town and all of those places are only a few minutes apart. I just have to visit my head doc.
