Heidi, my grandfather had sleep apnea. A nurse from that ward walked past his room while he was waiting for heart surgery and got it stopped. He died from the heart problems a few years later.

Oops, sorry. Not a good TOPP.

Being single doesn't necessarily mean you're available. Sometimes you have to put up a sign that says, 'Do Not Disturb' on your heart.

Suzy, I hope the fire danger in your region doesn't rise above severe! Better yet, I hope it is reduced and you get some much-needed rain!

Heidi, I hope the sleep study tomorrow night goes well! Do whatever you can to get comfortable. As for getting your iron levels up, have they given you a list of foods? You can find some online. I think Total is a cold cereal that has high levels of iron. I don't remember other cereals. Vegetable and fruits are helpful, too.

MizT, how awful that you lost a long post! That is SO frustrating! It's nice that the tech gave you his work number in hopes of keeping your phone and computer up and running!

Yikes, I almost turned the page and lost my post. Luckily I caught myself, and also, it wasn't that long.

Suzy, I'm sorry to hear about your grandfather. Were the not able to get him to use a C-PAP machine, or was this before they were being prescribed?

Great TOPP, Suzy, and very true!

Time to head to bed, as we have an early alarm and long day. Take care everyone, and feel free to share {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , healing energy, positive thoughts, and prayers!

It’s nasty out there today. There are several fires, though none near me, and it’s very, very windy

I'm leaving in 25 minutes for the sleep study. Should be interesting. I hope they have a very soft mattress, or I won't be able to sleep.

Suzy, with you mentioning fires reminded me that on Friday night we were sitting watching TV and I kept saying to Col that I could smell smoke. We eventually went outside and were hit by the tell-tale sweet smelling smoke of a sugar-cane fire. I so often forget that just across the Logan River near us are cane fields at Beenleigh and if the wind is blowing our way we smell the smoke. It was a relief that it wasn't anything else.

I'm back home. There was some mix-up and they didn't have me down for tonight. We'll have to straighten it out on Monday. At least I had another important errand to run in that neighborhood, so it was not a complete waste of time.

Well I had an unnecessary early morning this morning. I woke up, looked at the time and remembered I had to leave in half an hour to take Alie to work. I hopped up, got dressed, decided I didn’t have time for coffee and decided to read for the 15 minutes until we had to leave. I wondered why I couldn’t hear Alie up and around and wondered if I should wake her. I decided no, she’s a big girl now, put my glasses on and settled down to read. Only now I had my glasses on I saw that the time was 6.45, not 8.45. Thank goodness I didn’t wake her up!

Hi, Everyone!

Suzy, I'm glad there are no fires near you, especially since it's so windy! It's a good thing you didn't wake up Alie. On the other hand, I hope you are able to catch up on some sleep with a nap later after getting her to work!

Heidi, I'm so sorry there was a mix-up about your sleep study appointment. Thank goodness you had an errand to run in that area so your trip wasn't a complete waste!

CynB, I'm glad the smoke you smelled wasn't anything to be concerned about!

Alie just took Gizmo for a walk. As she has many times before. Only this time a dog got out of its yard and attacked! Alie had immediately picked up Gizmo to protect him, so she copped the worst of it. I’m going to take her to emergency to get checked out. It’s not as bad as it could have been, but it’s not worth risking. I think the shock was the worst of it.

Emergency was chockas so we went to a chemist instead. She pointed us to a cream and bandages and said to definitely go to the doc tomorrow.

The cream the pharmacist recommended is brilliant. I normally wouldn’t have bought it because it was a lot more expensive than the others and I assumed they are all the same. I couldn’t be happier to be wrong. It has something in it that reduces pain! Alie is much more comfortable. She will see a doctor tomorrow.

Greetings to Everyone!

Wow, Suzy, how frightening for Alie and Gizmo. I'm glad the pharmacist recommended a cream that will help Alie's wounds to heal and also has the benefit of pain relief! I hope the trip to the doctor tomorrow finds agreement that Alie is on the right path to complete healing!

Cyn, that's a good suggestion to Suzy! The dog (and its owners) should be reported. Please consider that, Suzy. That dog could injure other people and small animals.

Alie is hesitant to report the dog because she doesn’t want it to die because it’s the owners fault it is aggressive. If she finds out she isn’t the only one it has attacked, she’ll report it. I actually think the owner is the one who should be reported. She took her sweet time intervening and was very cool about it. And she let the dog get back out. Alie was actually attacked twice.

Hi all.

Suzy, glad that Alie is ok. It is not fun to be attacked by a dog and the dog and owner should be reported. I am curious? What is the cream the chemist suggested?

Good Evening, Everybody!

Suzy, I can't believe the dog's owner let it out again and allowed Alie to be attacked a second time. At least the owner needs to be reported. If there's a possibility of rabies, the dog should be impounded and watched. I hope Alie reacts well to the tetanus shot and antibiotics. Will she lose time from work because of her injuries?

Heidi, I'm glad the sleep study has been rescheduled rather quickly. You'll have a busy day followed by (hopefully) a restful night.

Suzy, Alie should definitely report the dog And Owner, especially since the owner let it get out and attack her a second time. She should also tell them her concerns about the owner, as that suggests the owner should not be allowed to keep a dog. A visit from the police should at least put the owner on notice that her lack of concern for the public is not acceptable.

In all honesty the owner should be covering Alie's medical expenses and loss of income if she needs to take time off work. The police should be made aware of the costs so far, even if Alie doesn't want to pursue a claim for it. They could then use that information when talking to the owner, to further impress upon her the need to control her dog.

Whatever she decides, I hope Alie heals quickly and is not left with too much scarring from it.

The owner has to pay for all medical costs - take a witness with you when you ask for payment. If not received, then report to the police - they will be sympathetic with this complaint. Next time it attacks, it may be a little child who cannot defend themselves. Surprised to see rabies check - we don't have that terrible disease in Australia. The dog will not necessarily be put down - it may be classified as an unstable dog that has to wear a muzzle in public.
Lignocaine is a good local anaesthestic - I used to have it before I got used to needling for haemodialysis.

No 2 son home on the weekend - glad to see him. Footy team won on Saturday (we sat in 6 degrees cold with wind chill of about 3 or 4) but it was worth it. Had to rest all day Sat and Sunday because of the game - my legs would not co-operate with my brain. Friday night is the preliminary and we were able to get tickets - so glad.

Hi all. Just a quick stop in during lunch. Kids have been good today in class. Talking about math prefixes, which tend to get giggles. They did not giggle today. The prefixes discussed are bi- as in two. Bicycle or biped. s-x- as in 6, such as s*xtuplets. Those two usually give me trouble.

More good advice for Alie. Thanks to Saltie and Midge for comments and suggestions, many of which I hadn't thought of.

Midge, I'm glad to hear your son is home. Enjoy the footy team preliminaries!

Suzy, I may try to see if a similar cream is available in the states.

Hi, Tami. It sounds like your day was going well.

Hi, Everyone!

Everyone must be having a busy day! I had a cello lesson. I'm learning a movement of a concerto. Have I ever mentioned that cello is a difficult instrument to learn, especially when we're older. I'm not giving up - just working harder. (I never expected I'd advance far enough to be learning part of a concerto.)

Sending healing energy, positive thoughts, determination, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, , and prayers for all!

Julie, I'd love to see/hear you playing that concerto. Which one is it? I can YouTube it to see if I know it.
Haha, Tami! I can remember in school that if a word like 's3xtuplets' was used we would have all got the giggles. But the prefix 'bi' would not have turned a hair. In the 50s and 60s, even gay meant happy. Bi just meant 2.

For those who didn't read this on Facebook yesterday, Col has a date for his corneal transplant - 15th October, 3 weeks on Monday. It is day surgery so he will be home that day.
We have to go to the hospital on the 5th October to meet up with the surgeon, anaesthetist, pharmacy etc to be guided through what will happen and what he has to do.
Co-incidence is that 15th October is exactly 8 months since the accident happened.

Morning all, it’s very quiet here today. Alie is visiting her bf. Or maybe her guy friend, I don’t remember when that is happening. Apparently he had a party down here the weekend bf had the chest pain. Alie decided she’d visit him in Sydney instead. That’s confusing, guy friend is stationed in Sydney, but home is down here.

CynB, that's some wonderful news for Col! Seems like a step forward, as opposed to sideways or backwards. Progress!

Cyn, I'm trying to learn the first movement of VIvaldi's Cello Concerto in D Major, No. 9 Op.3. I think it may have originally been written for violin, but I'm not sure of that. It's the second piece in Suzuki Cello Book 6. I think it will be a months-long process, but I'm in no rush.

Tami, have a good Friday at school and a great and hopefully relaxing weekend!

Suzy, I hope Alie has a great weekend, whether with her boy friend or her guy friend. I hope you also have an enjoyable weekend!

Heidi, I hope all's going well and there are no major health issues that could derail your plans for surgery.

MizT, hoping all your doctor appointmemts are going well, your pain is subsiding, and your phone and internet are working!

Wishing a good weekend to all, including DOrA, Midge, and Saltie!

Suzy, what if anything did Alie do about the dog and owner? It is hard to take the hard line when you are young, so we won't be offended if she chose not to follow any of our suggestions. I would still like to know the outcome though.

I know that in the US, the doctor who treated Alie for the dog bites would be legally required to report the attack to the police. That happened to me when a teenager tried to break into my house and was bitten. The ER doctor reported the bites to the police and dog warden, and Sprite was put under threat of euthanasia. Fortunately, she was up on her rabies shot and was inside a fenced in yard. And she was justified.

Alie won’t report anything because it’s too easy to work out where we live. If we’re out Gizmo pushes aside curtains in the front windows to watch for us returning. She’s worried that reporting could end up with retribution. Sigh
