Cyn, Sorry about the loss of your friend's mom. It won't be easy for her. Hopefully the mom will realize she might need help.

Julie, supermarket was crazy, but fun. The day flew by and the customers were in good spirits.

The funeral was very sad in the fact that there were only 10 people there. And 8 of them were connected to Jenny.
I felt very sorry for her mother though. She and the father had been a close unit for 69 years and I did notice what I think are early signs of dementia, not surprising for a woman in her early 90's. I think Jenny will have more worrying times trying to sort out her mother from afar. We, of course, have offered our assistance. Her mother was quite friendly with us yesterday but had no idea she had ever met us before (numerous times). I gave her my phone number and told her to call if she needed any help. I suspect I'll hear nothing from her though.
Jenny goes back to the UK on 6th December.

Hi, Everyone!

Tami, I apologize for leaving the TOPP without any warning. I completely forgot to check numbers. I like your TOPP-plus-one. And it was good to hear that the grocery store on the day before Thanksgiving was busy, but not crazy, and people were in good spirits (and hopefully not impatient).

CynB, what a shame that the funeral was not well attended. One of the disadvantages to a long life is outliving friends, neighbors, and associates. I hope Jenny's Mom will call you if she needs help, but I suspect you're right that it's unlikely that she will call. Do you think your friend can convince her Mom to return to Britain in the 2 weeks before she leaves?

We had a nice Thanksgiving with D, SIL and grandie who live in the area and had a nice Face Time conversation with other D and grandies. D even sent us home with some left-overs, which I hadn't planned on.

Sending lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, prayers, positive thoughts, healing energy, and . for everyone!

Alie is working a function at bundanon. The fire department posted around 4 that there are wires down. Now Alie is attempting to help cater a function without power. And I think it’s all the big wigs!

She’s home now. The big wigs ate by the light of battery operated tea lights. The chef used a bbq instead of the oven. And Alie did so well the chef offered to get her work doing weddings with him on weekends. At $35 an hour

Very nice, Suzy.

Felt lousy yesterday and didn't go to the Thanksgiving meal with friends. It turned out to be a good thing that I didn't. A big wooden fence/gate post that had been here since long before we bought the property in '91 gave up the ghost and collapsed. It was so rotten that it was hollow. A male friend quickly offered to replace it for me. That required the use of my tractor. If it hadn't been replaced quickly, all the cows and horses would have scattered across the neighborhood.

Suzy, how wonderful that Allie did so well she got offer of really high paying work helping cater! I say high paying, would be good wages here, but unsure of wages down under.

Lines down can be so scary. Here, with the huge, devastating fire in California, they are investigating lines down or other malfunction of high power transmission as the start of the fire. even before any official word, people are filing law suits against the power co.

Well, my reaction to the second BP medicine kept getting worse, even after I stopped the med. It had messed up electrolytes, especially potassium. Too much (or too little) potassium can really mess you up, it is used for muscles all over body, heart rate and rhythm. and it takes a while to clear from your body. If course I had a lot of symptoms, my body really does not want anything to mess with electrolytes, and it pitches a huge fit if they get out of line. Among other things, I had a charlie horse in my left calf all day Wednesday and Thursday. Yep, went to Thanksgiving dinner limping from it.

When Daniel, the phone nurse for my doc, called me back ( within 30 minuets, he is soo good)and said doc wanted me to stop the med, I already had, and then start a new med, I asked if we could go back to the one that had been recalled. He said they might have the generic from other manufacturers by now, or the brand name might not be expensive, so he sent in a script. Told me to check with pharmacy in 30 min, and call him if they needed further from him (like getting insurance to pay for brand name). Pharmacy had the generic that was NOT part of recall, I have my regular med back, and with zero co pay! Can not get any better than that. I am gradually getting better, hope it continues. the biggest difference I noticed this morning, besides not aching all over, is I have my mind back. Very nice to feel clear headed again.

Very good that my pharmacy is so close. It being the afternoon before Thanksgiving, they would not have been able to deliver till Friday (today). My car was parked close to the door, and after I got that left leg inside, I was able to slowly drive to pharmacy. Illegal parked right in front of door, it was a loading zone, not a fire lane zone, not as big a penalty if I had got caught . At the time, it would have been worth it but I did not get caught. Came back to the same close parking spot here, yeah! So I am on the meds. OOOPS, need to take morning BP med now. I got out of habit. This one is trice a day, others were once and took at bedtime.

I did read, sorry for not commenting on your post. Hope to get back later for that. today is a 'No Day', not a thing planned but to rest and recover. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Heidi, how fortunate you saw and were able to get help replacing that fence post. What a way to spend thanksgiving, but you do have something to be thankful for. Your horses and cattle all over the neighborhood would have been a big chore, collecting them again.

OK, I am really off to take meds now, hugs

Wow, Suzy, that's a good offer for Alie. Hope the chef follows through.
Heidi, glad you got you fence post fixed but sorry you missed you thanksgiving with friends.
MizT, glad you got your medications sorted.
Julie, Jenny's mother wants to take the father's ashes back to the UK but the problem now is that her British passport expired years ago and she never got Australian citizenship, although she's lived here more than 50 years. It means either getting Australian citizenship and then leaving the country or having to apply to the UK for a new passport. She'd need so much assistance, it's a logistical nightmare.

Suzy, I'm glad you were able to get Alie to and from work, in spite of downed power lines. She must have done an exceptional job for the chef to offer to help get her work with him when he caters weddings. I'm guessing the suggested pay per hour would be a welcome addition to her savings!

Heidi, I'm so sorry you didn't feel well and had to miss the Thanksgiving dinner with friends. It's a good thing you were at home when that fence/gate post decided its time was done. Also fortunate you had a friend who could come and help install a replacement! I can't imagine how challenging it would have been to round up all the animals if they got out.

MizT, I'm so sorry to hear about the problems the BP medicine gave you. Hooray for Daniel and his finding a generic version of the medicine that had been recalled. I hope you will soon feel completely better and can get on with daily living!

CynB, I hope Jenny can help her Mother find a simple solution to get a passport and return to the UK with the ashes. If they can work that out, my guess is that Jenny could then convince her Mum to stay in the UK. Unfortunately, the process doesn't sound easy. Wishing them luck.

DOrA, that's LOL funny!

Hi, Saltie! Thanks for the heads up that Plum is starting an RIP thread.

I missed my thanksgiving message from Greg this year. Xmas will be quieter too because neither June nor Greg will be sending me a message.

Dana has her groceries delivered because the stores are 45 minutes drive away, and she doesn’t drive. There is a small IGA locally she can get things at if she runs out between deliveries, but they are usually a lot more expensive. Anywho, she got a message that the delivery that was supposed to happen between 7/and 10 tonight was going to be late, probably after midnight. Here’s where it helps to live in a country town because she already knew why. The delivery truck ran off the road! There was even a picture! Nobody was hurt apparently.

Heidi, I’m glad you caught the fence before your animals escaped, but not that you missed thanksgiving dinner. I’d like to shake the hand of the friend who helped you.

MizT, I’m glad your meds are sorted out! Alie’s pay offer is fantastic for someone her age who didn’t finish high school, but hubby earned more in his job. So it’s all relative.

Risky, maybe a little Risqué, but I’ll take a chance…

Fiftieth Wedding Anniversary

A man and his wife were celebrating 50 years together.

Their three kids, all very successful, all agreed to a Sunday dinner in their honour.

'Happy Anniversary Mum & Dad' gushed son number one, a surgeon, 'Sorry I'm running late. I had an emergency at the hospital with a patient, you know how it is, and didn't have time to get you a gift.'

'Not to worry' said the father, the important thing is that we're all together today.'

Son number two, a lawyer, arrived and announced 'You and Mom look great Dad'. I just flew in from Los Angeles between cases and didn't have time to shop for you'.

'It's nothing,' said the father. 'We're glad you were able to come.'

Just then the daughter, a marketing executive, arrived. 'Hello and Happy Anniversary! I'm sorry but my boss is sending me out of town and I was really busy packing so I didn't have time to get you anything.'

After they finished dessert, the father said, 'There's something your mother and I have wanted to tell you for a long time. You see, we were very poor. Despite this, we were able to send each of you to university. Throughout the years your mother and I knew we loved each other very much, but we just never found the time to get married.'

The three children gasped and all said, 'You mean we're bas tards?'

'Yes,' said the father, 'and miserable ones at that”.

In 2 weeks, my Vet (Mike) and I will be sorting out all my ancient toothless cows and selling them. That will leave only about 8 or 9 cows here and the bull. Mike was divorced last year himself and had to sell his farm as part of the settlement. He's presently boarding his cattle on someone else's farm. He asked if he could move them over here in the early Spring. I said sure. He bought some of his stock from me years ago, so they will go well with my bull.

Suzy, my 'country town' communication failed yesterday, because I didn't get online for hours. We started getting calls from people asking if we were okay because there was a bushfire in our vicinity. We couldn't even smell smoke. Checked online and it was at the other end of our area about 10 km from us. Fortunately it was under control but made the local news because they love to instill panic amongst the public!

I'm liking the idea of the RIP thread but there are also so many others who were regulars and have stopped posting. Obviously some have gone to the dark side and never joined the group over on there. But I fear many may have passed away, and their families have not been able or known how to contact us. I'm remembering people like Eve, Dorthea and Rayray - stalwarts from years ago.

DorA, I know you are right and I am probably too complacent about it because we live close to the ocean, in an area that gets more rain than average and is always green. Although we have never had a fire out of control anywhere near us, it doesn't mean that it will never happen.
And I did appreciate that people cared enough to check!

I'm a bit on tenterhooks today, my daughter and her daughter leave Brisbane in about 20 mins to fly to Sydney and from there to New York, via a quick stopover (2 hours) in LA. Such a long flight. They won't arrive until this time tomorrow, our time - 7.30 tonight NY time.

Suzy, I'm glad no one was hurt when the grocery delivery truck went off the road. I didn't realized Dana lived so far away from the grocery store. How fortunate that they do deliveries. I'm not aware of any stores in my area - or the almost area where I grew up - that deliver groceries. (The things we take for granted . . . _) She must really need to be organized and plan menus in order to function with periodic grocery deliveries.

Heidi, that's very kind of you to let your vet board his cows at your farm. It seems so rare to see people helping out each other that way.

CynB, what a relief that the fire wasn't extremely close, and usually fires don't get close enough to be a bother.

I haven't been over to the regular Sudoku page to check out the RIP thread. It's been so long since I've been a regular. Thanks for adding some names to the list, Suzy.

CynB, how exciting for your daughter and granddaughter! I can't imagine that long of a flight. I hope they have a wonderful time and stay warm!

Heidi, I hope your appointment goes well. I'm sorry to hear you may now have the flu. I hope you feel better soon.

It has been snowing most of this afternoon and evening. (It had started with rain in the morning, then dropping temperatures changed it to snow. Predictions are for a foot (just over .3 meter) of snow before it ends in the afternoon. The power went off twice, then came back on, but went off again about 3.5 hours ago. The computer is on a circuit covered by our small generator, so we do have heat.

Julie, our two major grocery store chains deliver almost everywhere now. I could get delivery if I wanted to. But I don’t need to, unlike Dana. Unfortunately Aldi doesn’t deliver so she pays more for some things, but it’s worth it. Her ex drives to the “big smoke”, still a relatively small town, to buy his groceries.

Dana is a planner so even when she lived here she had her dinners, school lunches, snacks and breakfast planned out two weeks ahead.

Cyn, that is great news about the New York trip! Are they planning to see a show on broadway?

Heidi, I hope it’s just a cold, but with body aches, you’re probably right about the flu.

Saltie, if you are aware of someone who passed, I don’t think you have to worry about how long you’ve been joining in!
