Good TOPP DorA!
I've been reading health tips on Google trying to find a solution to Col's ongoing problems with light sensitivity and I may have found a solution. Firstly I took him out and we bought good prescription anti-glare sunglasses - that helped immediately. Also, after reading up on light sensitivity and redness in the eye, I have increased his steroid drops from 4 to 5 daily. He was on 6 and they lowered them last visit, too soon I feel. It seems to be working for now, early days though. And don't worry I won't keep up the extra drops if they don't seem to be working.

CynB, it's good to hear that you have found a way to help Col with his light sensitivity

Suzy, I'm sure you're thrilled that Alie is home! How nice that she had so much to share.I'm sure there will be more after she gets caught up on her sleep.

Sorry you had a post that didn't go through, Tami. I'm hoping it was all good! Hoping tomorrow will be a great day for you!

It’s lucky I live out of town. The back door locks now, but I rarely remember to lock the other back door. Even better/worse. I usually remember to lock the front door, including last night. I was going out with Alie tonight and couldn’t find my keys. They were still in the front door! On the outside!

Another near oopsie. Last week I missed bin night because I didn’t know what day of the week it was. Luckily I don’t make much rubbish on my own. Tonight I remembered, then looked at the date on my tablet. D@mn I thought, missed it again. Then realised the time was 12.01. So I nearly missed it again, but my brain kicked in long enough to realise that the day changed at midnight. Phew!

Suzy, your experience with the key being in the door on the outside reminded me of a time long ago when my ex and I and the kids went away for the weekend. Came home to find the front door open!

A few exciting family days this week. Last night Madeline had her formal (she looked stunning!) and tomorrow is her graduation, marking the end of her school years. She will be continuing her studies, started through school, in Early Childhood Care. She already has a job lined up and will be working there when not studying at TAFE.
And today our gorgeous Emily turns 17. She's out in the Pacific somewhere but will be home tomorrow. Big family celebration on Saturday night.

Greetings to All!

Suzy, you are certainly not the first person to leave keys in the lock, and are far from being the last person.

Here's a similar (but different) Oopsie that happened at our house. Hubby and I left to go to my orchestra rehearsal & cello lesson. During the 2-hour rehearsal, hubby had some errands to run. About 10 minutes into the rehearsal he came into the room. The keys in his pocket were for the other car. The car had started because it recognized the keys in my purse. (Neither car requires a key IN the ignition.) We have only had near misses since then, as he usually remembers to check which car keys are in his pocket.

Suzy, we have also been known to forget to put the garbage and recycling at the curb for pick-up. There is so much information floating around to keep track of that it's not easy to remember everything. especially if you don't have several set activities you do on certain days that would help you remember.

CynB, what an exciting time for Madeline! Congratulations to her on her graduation. It's great that she has a job for the time when she's not in class or studying!

Happy 17th birthday to Emily! How fun that they'll be returning home on her birthday. I hope the family celebration is wonderful!

Tami, I hope you've had a good day today, and hope your Mom is getting used to relying on others for transportation.

Heidi, hopefully several days on the antibiotic are helping you to feel better!

MizT, thinking of you and hoping you found someone to help you with some of the end-of-season gardening tasks! I also hope the changed medications are working better!

Healing energy, positive thoughts, prayers, {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, and are on their way to everyone!

Cyn, Maddie has chosen a rewarding career. Not very high paying, but an incredibly important job. Early childhood carers made a huge difference for Tahli. Without them she couldn’t have been mainstreamed.

Hi all. All is well here. Getting used to Dylan having his driver's license. Still don't want him driving but it is funny when him and Mitchell gang up on me. I went to my doctor yesterday. Have a strange lump in my armpit. It is an infection. I am on antibiotics and hope the thing drains soon. It is most likely from shaving. Mom is getting used to not having a car but still complains. Mitchell took her yesterday to run a few errands. She asked him for the car back and he said no.

Suzy, great encouragement for Maddie. It is indeed a worthwhile and rewarding career!

Tami, I'm glad you checked in with the doctor quickly. I hope the antibiotics clear up the infection!

Tami, you have raised Mitchell well. He stood his ground in spite of the requests (maybe even some guilt-inducing comments) from your Mom.

Suzy, I wonder if any one of us can claim to have never left a door open or unlocked. These things happen, especially when we're busy, rushed, or have too much on our minds.

CynB, I'll second Tami's comment. Maddie looked stunning in the photos you shared! A very proud set of grandparents!

Suzy, I came in today from playing scrabble, my door was locked, but there was a bowl ov still hot food left for me. I needed the necessary room so badly I left the door standing wide openm quickly put the soup on the table and rushed to the bathroom. I hear my friend Ron at the door, calling me to see if I am OK. Yes, Ron, but hold on, do not enter, I am in the bathroom! kind of embarrassing, He was also delivering some great smelling beef stew to my next door neighborhood, wanted to be sure I was the one found his food offering. I had smelled his cooking when I went past his open apartment door earlier, told him how great it smelled. Even a slice of garlic butter spread on some great looking whole grain bread. No, I did not eat it for dinner, I do not eat that late, it keeps me up at night. But I tasted it and it was lovely, with some delicious spices. Ron loves to cook, usually his food is too hot with spice, hot peppers, and even though he is in other building, same floor, I often can smell his cooking. Ton is paraplegic, and does all his cooking from a manual wheel chair, and loves to share with friends. 'Just remember to return my plastic' .

the :worse' side effect from PB meds is weight loss, I have lost 6 pounds in 2 weeks! No appetite, but I am making sure I get enough nutrition just no extras, and making sure I drink enough.

I think thermostat on my HVAC unit is stuck. I fell asleep in recliner, woke to apartment sniffling hot, up to 77.6m when I had it set for 66. I have turned it off, it is 28 degrees, below freezing outside. might wake in morning to icicles inside, but that heat was making it hard to breathe. Will report that in the morning. YEAHm we now have maintenance man again,

I am invited to play Canasta both Saturday and Sundaym U di ebhit tghat when U okatym but . . . asleep and trying to type, so I shall fall over into bed. Good night dear friends,

MizT - laughing at your sleepy typing. Hope you didn't get too cold overnight.
Tami - it is hard getting used to kids having drivers licences. And driving with them. I've been with Maddy a few times but the night of Maddy's formal was the first time I experienced Lachlan's driving, even though he's been driving longer than Maddy. Wasn't too bad!
Suzy, yes, we'll have 2 teachers in the family. Maddy teaching early childhood and Hayley teaching Primary classes. Proud of those girls, they have both known what career they wanted and have worked hard to get there.

Did you miss me? We had an ice storm on Wednesday and lost power tp the whole area.... thousands upon thousands of homes. It's been below freezing since then, with a snow storm on Thursday! And no heat in the house. I lost 5 baby finches and 1 baby Budgie. I just got my power back on 15 minutes ago: 8:10 pm Friday.

MizT, your description of the bowl of hot food and wheat bread with garlic butter sounds wonderful. I'm glad you took a taste of it and hope you'll have a wonderful meal tomorrow. Ron sounds like the kind of neighbor everyone should have.- someone who likes to cook, cooks well, and gladly shares!

I hope you had a restful sleep, MizT! Seems like you really needed it!

CynB, the cheesecake/birthday cake sounds yummy. I hope the entire family had an enjoyable dinner and fun dessert! Happy Weekend to you and all of your family!

Heidi, I wondered if you were OK when we didn't see you for a few days. WOW, 2 full days without power or heat! I'm so sorry to hear that you lost a baby budgie and 5 baby finches. My guess is that it got quite cold in the 'Bird Room.' (I can't remember if you call it an aviary or other special name. Too bad MizT couldn't share the excessive hear from her apartment. I'm glad the power is back on, especially with the weekend looming.

Hooray! So glad to hear that the antibiotics are working for you, Heidi!

I'm about to head to bed before I fall asleep at the computer. Good Night, All! Feel free to share the {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, healing energy,

Sorry to hear of the loss of your birds, Heidi.

While we don't have any storms forecast for the area, we are expecting sub-freezing temps for the next few nights. I have electric and propane options for heat. The propane does require 12 volt power that is supplied by batteries. I have a small portable generator to recharge the batteries and leave enough leftover for the coffee pot. I do have to rely on bottled water, however, as I have a well.

I am fortunate, in that power outages, Somewhere, are rare and usually short lived, so investing in a backup generator large enough to power 'everything' isn't really a cost effective solution, for me...

Heidi, sorry you lost some of your baby birds. I can't imagine dealing with such cold weather without heating. My daughter and granddaughter are scrambling to gather more warm clothing for their trip to New York next week. We have no real concept of how to deal with snow and ice. They'll learn the hard way.
Glad your antibiotics are working.

CynB. remind your D and grandD to take items of clothing they can layer to help fight the cold. Layering can go a long way to staying warm. Items to consider including are a long-sleeve shirt over a short-sleeve or long-sleeve t-shirt, maybe a fleece vest (sleeveless) that can be worn over the long-sleeve shirt, then a fleece jacket (possibly hooded), all of which can be worn under a warmer jacket. Gloves/mittens are probably a must, as well as socks, tights, or leggings and closed shoes or boots. Some sort of head covering will be helpful. How long will they be in New York?

Heidi, I'm so sorry about the baby birds. I hope all of the rest survived the cold and are doing well! So glad to hear that the antibiotics are working!

DOrA, I'm glad to hear you have a generator. That would have helped Heidi deal with the lack of power and heat.

We also have a smallish generator. We got it because we had a few cats and would make a trip every few months to visit D and family. We had someone come in to check on food, water, and litter boxes. At the time, there was quite a bit of construction in our area - leading to rather frequent power outages. We were able to keep part of the house warm (or cool in summer) and a light available for the person attending to the cats.

Suzy, has Alie caught up on her sleep yet? It could take a few days.

It's still rather early, but our recent very long days and too many nights of interrupted sleep are having an effect. Thinking of everyone and sending healing energy, , prayers, positive thoughts, and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} to all!

FINALLY took the last 6 calves from last year's crop to the sale barn today. I'll be taking the first of this years crop there in 2 or 3 weeks. That's also whem I'll be selling off most of the cows. Only 9 cows are bred... the rest are now too old. I'll be keeping the bred cows and the bull. The other 20 cows will be sold.

CynB, it's probably too early to get a somewhat reliable weather prediction Here is the website for our National Weather Service: https://www.weather.gov

Heidi, I hope you got a good price for the last 6 calves of last year's crop and hope prices will be good in 2 or 3 weeks when you take the first of this year's crop and the 20 cows who weren't bred. With only keeping 9 cows, calving season will hopefully be a bit less busy next season.

Heidi, sorry about your birds. 😔

Cyn, I doubt coats and stuff they could buy here would be as warm as coats they could buy in New York. But then they wouldn’t be able to use them when they got home. Layering like Julie said sounds like their best option.. they will have such a good time!

True, Suzy, and also it is almost summer here so absolutely no winter clothes in shops, well not here in Qld. They did stock up in winter but I have lent Karin my knee length woolen coat and my thermals. She didn't want the thermals but I persuaded her that they won't take up much room in her suitcase and should the weather get bitterly cold she may appreciate having them. I've used them in Canberra and Melbourne in zero temps.

CynB, I found this on 'How to Dress for the Cold' https://www.wikihow.com/Dress-for-the-Cold
As I'm sitting at the computer in a 70 degree F room, my fingers are cold. That reminds me that in very cold weather I wear a lighter pair of gloves covered by larger warm mittens. A bit of extra air space between layers seems to help me keep warmer. It also reminds to wear a few layers on your legs (often forgotten in this area except by those 'playing' outside - like sledding, riding snow mobiles, etc.

Off today but working at Publix(grocery store). That should be fun the day before Thanksgiving. Going to a restaurant tomorrow with my mom, Hubby's parents and a friend and her son. We are then going back to in-laws house for dessert. Tomorrow (Nov 22) is my baby's 18th birthday.

Morning all!
We're off to a funeral today. The father of one of our dearest friends. The family migrated to Australia in the late 60's. After a nasty marriage breakup, my friend followed her daughter back to the UK where both of them married Brits and settled there. Jenny kept pleading with her parents to come back to Britian. But they wouldn't. Now the father has died and the mother will be all alone here in Australia. She is not a friendly woman, how she had such a wonderful caring daughter I'll never know. Jenny has flown over for the funeral and will have to leave her 93 yo Mum alone here with no friends. I would help but the woman won't take help. It's an awful situation for Jenny. We expect only about 20 people at the funeral, Jenny's friends!

MizT, what a great idea to cook, slice & package the turkey for future meals. I'm sure either the dressing or soup will be a welcome addition to various meals. I hope the Thanksgiving luncheon for residents was tasty and enjoyable!

Tami, I'm sorry you weren't able to post a comment from school. I hope working at the grocery store wasn't too crazy on the day before Thanksgiving. Enjoy celebrating Thanksgiving and S#2's birthday tomorrow with your Mom, in-laws, hubby and boys and your friend and her son!
