Hi all, have been absent for a while. Had broken molar that had embedded in jawbone - drilling was not fun and have been laying low for a while.
MizT - sorry you have been gong through all the hassle of new meds and their side-effects. Hope they finally find some that you can cope with easily.
Heidi - seems like the machine could be of great assistance to you - lucky you had the test now. Do you know when your surgery will be?
Good on you Tami - feel for you but as you know it is the responsible way and your mum will end up in agreeance eventually.
Don't worry about shaving your legs - as you get older your eyesight is stuffed so you can't see them anyway and who cares..haha!!!
Exciting day tomorrow, Double the Magic is racing at Oaks Day - a big race day here in Melbourne. We are going but will only stay for the race as I cannot stand the rubbish that goes on - women in fancy designer(?) clothes, stilettos and legless by 3p.m. Most of them go to be seen, not for the horses.
Dora - like your jokes. There is another one - an advert for a wife - Wanted - Wife and Motor Boat - please send picture of boat.
Cheers and best wishes to everyone.

Morning all.
Thanks for the advice for Col's problem. I have been thinking along those lines but the problem seems to be that he does keep the bad eye closed most of the time but the glare coming through the good eye must affect the nerves/retina in the bad eye causing the problem. It seems that he just has to try to cope - and I told him that. Sounds harsh but he's been trying the last few days. I am sympathetic honestly.

Midge - enjoy Oaks Day. I was so sorry about the horse 'The Cliffs of Moher' having to be put down yesterday. If I'd had a bet it would have been on him.
I agree with your comment about the drunken women at the Cup. Up here in Brisbane, they have races at Eagle Farm (I think) and have big screens up for the Cup. Scomo was there yesterday because he is campaigning in Qld. I saw him on the news last night having a drink with some of these women. One turned to him and said, 'What's your name?' He just said Scott. Like him or not, I would expect any Aussie adult to be able to recognise our Prime Minister.

A new definition of irony... we live in Australia, home to venomous spiders and snakes. None of us have been bitten. Alie is in California, and has been bitten by a spider. She’s fine, so it’s funny

greetings friends. I do think I have turned a corner, at last over most of the problems caused by the 'bad' blood pressure medication. I did start the second one, cut the tiny 10 mg tablet in half, and first dose, my BP dropped in an hour, good thing I took it at night, and at bedtime. So far, so good.

I did make it downstairs to the Halloween party. Too much food, too much ch9ocolate, I refrained from going to today's November Birthday party for more of same. Last medication had caused weight gain, cannot continue through the holiday season. It seems the new medication has opposite effect, I am never hungry, so perhaps I can get weight under control.

We had 2 days of wet and cloudy summer again. Still needing AC in November, not good.

I did manage to get my fairy lights up around my living room window, and 8 battery op candles on the window sill, mixed with my house plants. Have not yet had to bring in the tender potted plants

it is time for the second sleep, medication is still making me sleepy. I am doing more correcting then typing it seems.

Tami, I am glad you took driving privileges from your Mom, have you thought of using Uber then you cannot drive her? Some of our residents use it, and have the same driver they use when they need a lift. Others use a cab, again asking for the same driver each time,

Night all. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Great TOPP, DOrA! I apologize for getting us so close without realizing it and warning/reminding everyone.

Heidi, I'm so glad you voted! We were able to do early voting during Halloween week. There were even lines (and very little parking) that early.

Midge, that broken and embedded molar sounds awful. Ouch! I hope you're feeling much better now!

Midge, I hope Double the Magic does well in the Oaks Day race tomorrow! I can certainly understand not enjoying all of the pomp and flaunting of fancy clothes, etc. I would think it's much more enjoyable to watch the races and be caught up in the excitement.

I like your joke, Midge. Thanks for sharing it.

CynB, the interesting thing about eyes is that what affects one of them can ultimately affect the other. You may be quite right that the glare going into his good eye is somehow affecting the nerves of the other. Also, keeping one eye closed may be tiring both eyes. I don't remember if anyone suggested a patch. I hope Col finds some kind of relief! I can't imagine dealing with the pain for 12 months.

Suzy, I'm sorry to hear Alie got a spider bite in California. It IS ironic! I hope she won't get any more while she's there.

MizT, I hope your new medications are getting sorted and hope you won't need to deal with side effects much longer.

Thinking of everyone and sending lots of {{{{{HUGS}}}}}, positive thoughts, healing energy, prayers, and

Hi all. Mom is still fussing about the car but she knows she is not getting it back. If me or one of the boys can't drive her, I will hire a car for her. We try to make the appointments for days off.

Glad all seems to be ok in here.

Got my tractor back. It's been in the shop for the past week. My Vet brought his over here in the meantime to use for feeding the cattle. He's been helping me out a lot in the last few weeks. We just had a calf born yesterday. He's recently divorced and lost his farm. I think he enjoys fooling around on mine. I've told him that because of all his help, I'll be sharing the sale price on this Fall's cattle sales with him.

Hi, Tami! Congratulations for holding your ground about the car. I hope that as more time passes, she'll become more resigned to relying on you and your boys to get her to appointments, etc. I wonder how she would feel about being driven by a non-family member, as an Uber or Lyft. Here's hoping each day gets easier - for both of you.

Heidi, I'm so glad your tractor is back 'at home' on the farm with you. It's nice that your vet has been willing to help feed your cattle with his tractor. I imagine he's at a loss after losing his farm and enjoys the opportunity to do some farm work.

I hope everyone is well! MizT, I hope your medications have been or are being worked out! Take care, everyone, and enjoy the weekend!

greetings friends. Winter has shown up here, uninvited. our night time temps are flirting with freezing and it is wet! I got the 4 big ferns inside today, and that tropical plant we never identified. More need to come inside, but I ran out of energy. I talked to our leader today to make sure it was OK to bring them inside and put where they were last year. Both he and his assistant told me there was no one to help me, we still do not have maintenance personnel. Another resident did pull 2 of them from the bed where they were, kind of rough walking for me, slippery wet pine straw. I appreciated her help. I found some of the ferns had cascaded to the pine straw covered 'ground' and rooted. I took them to Linda, our rental officer. she has a green house at home, and can pot them up and over winter nicely. I managed to break one of the branches of the as yet unidentified tropical plant, she is going to try rooting that also. So, I am very tired tonight, but surprised I made it as well as I did.

I am a bit angry at resident unknown. Someone was bringing a bag of used kitty litter to the dumpster. It broke open, they just left it in the drive, right where people load the bus, and walkers, wheelchairs, shoes and autos had driven through it. I got the hose that was a bit too short to attack the mess from the best angle, but got most of it washed away into the drain. I should have ignored it, like everyone else had, but tracking that cat poop into bus and back into our building just seemed so nasty. YUCK!!

perhaps tomorrow I can move a couple more plants, they should survive tonight, if the cold wind does not get them. Forecast says 34 F, or about 1.1 C and only for about 3 hours. Hope they are correct.

I am enjoying my fairy lights here, and the candles. I plugged in the lights this afternoon, it was so very dreary. I need to find a timer for them. Also on our coldest day since early spring, I was online shopping for a swim suit! Pain clinic wants me to try water therapy, and the suit I had lost the elastic Found one I liked, now to get it ordered and see if it fits. It covers more, has the bike shorts bottom, and a higher neckline blouson top. Being in a nice warm pool would feel so good tonight,

forgot to submit this earlier, saw it when I came to bed, so here it is. Hugs to each of you, with extras.

Can't help myself. They don't call me DorA, for nothing... Hope I'm not ostracized & banned forever.....

A Tourist walked into a Chinese curio shop in San Francisco. While looking around at the exotic merchandise, he noticed a very lifelike, life-sized, bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but was so incredibly striking the tourist decided he must have it He took it to the old shop owner and asked, 'How much for the bronze rat ? ''Ahhh, you have chosen wisely! It is $12 for the rat and $100 for the story,' said the wise old Chinaman. The tourist quickly pulled out twelve dollars. 'I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story'. As he walked down the street carrying his bronze rat, the tourist noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the alleys and sewers and had begun following him down the street. This was a bit disconcerting so he began walking faster. A couple blocks later he looked behind him and saw to his horror the herd of rats behind him had grown to hundreds, and they began squealing. Sweating now, the tourist began to trot toward San Francisco Bay. Again, after a couple blocks, he looked around only to discover that the rats now numbered in the MILLIONS, and were squealing and coming toward him faster and faster. Terrified, he ran to the edge of the Bay and threw the bronze rat as far as he could into the Bay. Amazingly, the millions of rats all jumped into the Bay after the bronze rat and were all drowned. The man walked back to the curio shop in Chinatown.'Ahhh,' said the owner, 'You come back for story ? ''No sir,' said the man, 'I came back to see if you have a bronze Democrat. Didn't see that one coming... did ya...

Yeah, I could have changed the end. But where is the fun? The 'R' people, for the most part, just consider the source and move on, where as the 'D' people get irate, belligerent, and extremely vocal. They also demonstrate there displeasure by looting, burning, and other random acts of violence...

I have my fire extinguisher handy to put out the ''FLAMES''.

P.S. I received it from a ''fellow Sudokuist'', who will remain nameless, as they may not have a fire extinguisher..................

In other news...

Ever since I've spent time on the trail, hiking, my food choice have gotten weird.

Today's breakfast example:

Scrambled eggs with bacon bits, and home grown sprout mix, topped with salsa.

Steamed rice with soy sauce.

Pushed onto the fork with a tortilla smeared with Nutella and tightly rolled.

The combination is weird, but it tasted good, to me, and filled an empty stomach.

As a ''peace offering' -

THINGS WE CAN LEARN FROM A DOG

1.Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.
2.Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstacy.
3.When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
4.When it’s in your best interest, always practice obedience.
5.Let others know when they’ve invaded your territory.
6.Take naps and always stretch before rising.
7.Run, romp, and play daily.
8.Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.
9.Be loyal.
10.Never pretend to be something you’re not.
11.If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
12.When someone is having a bad day, be quiet, sit close by and nuzzle them gently.
13.Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
14.Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
15.Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
16.On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
17.When you are happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
18.No matter how often you are criticized, don’t buy into the guilt thing and pout. Run right back and make friends.

Hi, Everyone!

I guess I either forgot to visit yesterday OR commented but forgot to Submit. I really can't remember. I had a quite challenging (one-hour) cello lesson this week and sat down to view and listen to the video and take notes. I usually takes me at least a couple of hours to do that. Last night, it took almost 3 times as long. I had really struggled understanding what my teacher wanted me to do, as we're getting into areas of new techniques for me. So I repeatedly watched, listened, and took notes, then watched & listened again to be sure the notes were accurate & made sense.

MizT, I hope the plants that weren't brought in survived the near-freezing temperatures. I wish there were someone to help with such heavy and labor-intensive tasks. Are there no Girl Scout or Boy Scout troops or church youth groups in the area that might help a day or two? I'm glad you have fairy lights and battery-operated candles to brighten you apartment. The change away from daylight-savings time brought an unwelcome reminder of how much I dislike late fall and winter. We have already had about 1.5 or 2 inches (about 4 centimeters) of snow and temperatures in the teens (- 7* C). And it gets dark before 5:00 p.m.

Oh, DOrA, you live dangerously with your jokes! They're good! I think we have CPs on this page (I know I have contributed them a couple of times), but they're not always acknowledged or recognized.

DOrA, I liked your list of things we can learn from a dog!

Suzy, I agree with your assessment based on Twitter evidence. I'm not on Twitter, and don't miss it. There's enough that hits the news that I wouldn't want to see more.

Heidi, thank you for helping the Lions. I'm sorry you were the only volunteer to show up. Sometimes I wonder if Service organizations will survive another generation. I know in our wood turning club (essentially a service group, as we do demonstrations and events for scouts, various high schools in our multi-county area, and libraries), we are always pleased when some of the younger members begin to take an interest in fuller participation and volunteering. There's a lot of gray and white hair in the club, so it's good to see the late 30-year-olds to early 50-year-old members stepping up. I hope you enjoyed the magic show!

Heidi, were you able to adopt the dog? I don't remember seeing any mention. Also, do you have a date for your surgery?

It's time to get going on some other things that have been neglected lately. Sending healing energy, , positive thoughts, prayers, and {{{{{HUGS}}}}} for each of you!

I have been very quiet in the last week. I have been trying to get it all together for the cruise we are doing in March. There are traps for new players everywhere. The 'extras', like drink packages, internet access, shore excursions etc will cost almost as much as the cruise itself.
Then comes passports, looks like we are going to have to get a Doctor's certificate to explain why Colin squints with his right eye. (Try getting gouged, then having a graft and see if you can open your eye!)
Next comes travel insurance, they don't care about the eye, they want to know all about his dodgy heart valve, found in 2003 (bicuspid, not tricuspid), never given an ounce of problems. Another visit to the Doctor to meet their requirements.
Still have to book flights to and from Sydney plus transfers to and from the Cruise Terminal.
Truly I doubt that I would have done this had I known the frustration.
But we are looking forward to it.

My son and his girls are on a cruise along the Queensland Coast this week. They seem to be having a great time. It will probably be their last family holiday. Hayley is at Uni and wanting to move in with friends. Em is 17 on Thursday and spends most of her time with her boyfriend. Chloe is even nearly 13.
It's both lovely and sad as they grow up and away.

Hi, Everyone! It has been quite a day, and every day this week is even more full. I really don't know if I'll find time to pop in to read or post over the next few days. I'm hoping things will be calmer by Saturday. Then there are only a handful of days until Thanksgiving, and I still don't know what plans are for that day. I'd almost just be happy to stay at home and eat a frozen dinner, if it would give us a chance to relax.

Wiow, CynB, you have been Little Miss Busy getting so much done! (Do you have the Little Miss and Little Mr. series in Oz?) They're for beginning readers. Each 'book' is about 12 pages long. Here's a link: https://www.mrmen.com

CynB, by getting everything done so much in advance, you might actually feel more relaxed and able to enjoy the cruise! It sounds like your son and grandies are enjoying their cruise. You may be right that at their ages, it may be harder and harder to plan any family type of vacation.

Suzy, I'm so excited for you that Alie will be back home! She'll undoubtedly have much to share! Enjoy! (She may need to decompress a bit first, though.)

Oh, OUCH! Heidi, when you are getting dental work done is not a good time to get a sinus infection. At least it's bacterial and you can hopefully benefit from antibiotics. I hope you feel better soon!
